This is Going to be Winded. You your thinking of DISh or even if you have DISH. You should read this.

First off, Ill say I've been a DISH network customer for almost 8 yrs. Ive paid my bill on-time every one of those months. And yet the horror story Im dealing with right now makes me want to let everyone know just how terrible they are.

I've recently upgraded to HD. Before this, no problems, because I had no contact with customer service. Now that I have had contact, they Lied directly to me, then lied about lying, several times. They attemtped to mislead and confuse me to get the results that they wanted. They blame others for problems that they, as the service provider, should be responsible for. They've stolen money from me. Yes, I said stolen. These are Bold statements, I understand. Allow me to explain.

During my first call regarding my upgrade. I was told my DVR service fee of $6/mo. would be waived. I questioned this (along with the rest of the deal(free HD for life, 1 yr. free Blockbuster Movie pass). The girl on the phone had to bring a supervisor in for help setting up the upgrade. So when I asked her a question she would relay it. One of my questions was " So my bill will actually be $6/mo. cheaper after my DVR fee is waived?" After consulting with her supervisor (which I could hear) she clearly responded "yes, sir" several times.

After getting my first bill, the DVR fee had not been waived. I called Customer Service. I then find out that waiving a DVR fee isnt even an option for them. Or so the rep says. I ask to speak with a supervisor, who begins talking to me like Im stupid, asif she cant be bothered, tells me "Im very sorry, but obviously you misunderstood." Actually, at this point I did just start understanding what was really going on but regarding the initial phone call, there was NO miscommunication. I told her I wanted to speak with her superior. She had two, both of whom were conviently on vacation and I could not speak with or have their phone numbers. I could only call back. She gave me her two superiors names, Mark and James. Her name was Darla. I found out on a follow up call... None of them exist. I also questioned the recording of the phone calls for "quality purposes" She informed me they dont ever record any calls so I could look for no validation there. So basically... I'm Burnt.

THEN. I was told I would recieve credits on my account for loss of service and already being billed for Blockbuster which I shouldnt have been. This was FOUR-4 billing cycles ago. After 5 web chats with cust. serv. and 5 phone calls to support and I have yet to recieve a single credit. EVERY time I call I have to repeat why I should in fact even recieve a credit in the first place and then wait for the rep to decide if he agrees? They Usually say well I can only give you $XX.XX in credits at this time OR He agrees but noone EVER actually applies the credit. What kind of system is that? Basically, Im burnt.

THEN, still to this day my Blockbuster Movie pass DOES NOT work properly. I have yet to stream a single thing. So after I get off with customer service I have to speak to someone else in Tech support. Who does the same things. I have to repeat everything again. Try all the same troubleshooting steps as if I can spend my days working for DISH network without getting paid. The last person I spoke with says I need to contact the company that made the switch for my internet connection to see how to enable "UPnP". Mind you, this device was given to me AND installed by the DISH installer. So basically, Im being charged for it regardless. BUT if I want it to work as it should, I have to figure it out for myself.

?
When this is all said and done. They will have paid the customer service repsmore to be decietful than just helping me and being honest from the beginning.

I tell people to always go through Dish directly, this sounds like independent dealer wanting to make a sale.

And there's the problem.

Local retailer would not lie.
They are subject to charge back. Plus you know where they live.

Order from an 800 number at your peril!

Well, I decided to take the OP's advice and this afternoon I've thought about Dish, and then I thought about it again...and decided they have treated me pretty well and so I will stick with them a bit longer!

I want some of what you're smoking. I started out working for a retailer. Most crooked SOB I've ever dealt with.

It depends on the retailer. In the past I had a call from someone practically within sight. They told me about this great deal another retailer was offering. I told the lady that the deal was not right as Dish does not offer that type of deal and I told her the truth. I also told her that I lose a lot of customers by telling the truth. By doing so I do not have to hear them complain afterwards that I misled them and having them cancel their service and suffering the consequences. Some want to tell you what you want to hear. It appears some at Dish does the same thing if you call them. It is all in who you talk to. That is the good thing about this site. You get the truth.

I agree. I always like to tell the customer the truth right up front. I try not to skip anything and get all of the extra fees out so the customer is aware. If I misinform a customer and they get billed more than I told them, then I get my butt chewed out. I don't know about you follks but I do not enjoy dealing with irate customers. I do not enjoy bickering with them either. I like to be to the point. This is what it is, taked it or leave it. I may lose some customers but the ones I have are generally happy and the ones I lost usually come back.

Unfortunately, fewer and fewer business owners/leaders have that philosophy anymore.

This should hit a lot of folks with a dose of reality. I can only imagine how much more common this will get as AI progresses.

I read several stories on this and most are clear as mud. They say a lot of the stolen bitcoin has been "locked out" and that everyone will be made financially whole. I guess time will tell if either of these statements are actually true.

The "Secure Asset Fund" had about $1 billion in reserves... in Bitcoin.

The fund started in 2018, so it may take a while to make investors whole, much less replenish the fund.

That's kinda what I was seeing but all the news reports are suggesting that all investors will be made whole immediately.
The other thing they weren't clear about was the BTC that was "locked out" of the system. I guess that means that the stolen BTC is basically worthless now because I don't see how it could be replaced....but there is a LOT about the crypto world that leaves me scratching my head.

A few clarifications... the ~$3B "locked" was mostly stablecoins (USDT/USDC). Tether and Circle can blacklist their own tokens, which makes those worthless to the thief. Bitcoin and ETH have no issuer, so they can't be frozen. That's the ~$2.4–3.3B the hackers still have, so the stolen BTC is very much not worthless to them. It was also spread across 10 blockchains, not just bitcoin. On getting made whole: SAFU is ~15,000 BTC (~$1.2B), and Binance says it'll cover the rest from company funds. Analysts don't see it as a solvency problem, and withdrawals are expected back within days.

The attack was pinned on North Korea's TraderTraitor group via a compromised engineer laptop. Like many hacks and compromises, that's old-school social engineering, not AI.

This is what scares me about cryptocurrency: there doesn't seem to be any oversight.

It seems more like politics than investing.

That's the tradeoff stablecoins make - a central issuer that can freeze funds, which is why half the loot got stopped. Bitcoin and ETH have no one in charge, so nobody can reverse a theft, but nobody can freeze your coins either. Stablecoins trade price volatility for trusting a central issuer.

I was reading this article

That said this-
Last summer, for the first time, streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime claimed the largest share of the television viewing audience, surpassing both cable and broadcast TV. Streaming captured 34.8 percent of July viewers, according to Nielsen data, compared to 34.4 percent for cable and 21.6 percent for broadcast.

And then, sometime in the second half of 2022, cord-cutters became the majority. The share of cable and satellite television subscribers dipped to 48 percent, according to a report from Samba TV, a television technology company.

Now I do not consider those with YTTV and the likes, Cord Cutters, but they still do not have Traditional Cable/Satellite delivered Live TV, so I decided to do the math.

There are, now, 129 Million Households in the United States.

In 2015, there were 100 Million Cable/Sat Subscribers , no streaming Live TV Service.

Today, there are 66 Million Live TV subscribers, including Cable, Satellite and Streaming.

Roughly, Streaming Live TV has 14 Million subs including all of them.

So that means, Cable/Satellite now has, roughly, 51 Million Households

So in just 8 years, lost 49% of their subscribers and by the end of this year, expected sub count to be, roughly, 45 million households.

That means a total loss of 55% since 2015 at the end of 2023.

But out of 129 Million households, 45 million will mean only 35% will get Cable/Satellite Delivered Live TV by the end of 2023.

Imagine what 2024 will be like.

Nobody is "happy" or "sad" about this. Simply posting data in an non-editorialized way has nothing to do with anyone's feelings.

The data on the streaming side is immensely accurate, I'm guessing to the millisecond. Plus most people likely have not turned off data sharing and thus they are grabbing a huge swath of data. Much more accurate than cable which relies on a smaller sample size and probably not to the second.

In either case, nobody is getting "double counted" because it's usage based. If I watch 100 minutes of content and 30 minutes is on Youtube and 20 minutes on Disney and 50 minutes on YTTV, it's going to show up as 30%, 20%, 50% slices of my personal pie respectively.
Q.
Who does the Counting for Streaming ?

Neilson does the Broadcast/Cable ...
Nielsen does. If you go into the settings of any of your streaming accounts, you can turn off the option to share to usage data with their third party measuring service - Nielsen.

Pissed off at the crappy healthcare costs

My health Insurance renewal for 2027 just came in. Going from $827 a month to $1,187 a month. Deductible going up a $1k to $9,350. Max out of pocket also going up $1k to $11,000. Doctor co-pay of $40. Urgent Care co-pay $50. ER 50% coinsurance after deductible. That's all in network. Out of network is double, should it be needed.

Have to think about this. I'm really tempted to just go without now. I only go to the doctor once or twice a year. I pay out of pocket for Tirzepitide and can do without the Rosuvastatin (crestor) now. Really tired of spending over $10k a year and getting nothing out of it.

After years with Blue Cross I switched last year to Ambetter as my Blue Cross premium was going from $1200 to $1800 for a Silver plan and the Bronze plan was still going to be $1300 at BCBS. Ambetter was $827 for the same coverage with a Bronze plan. Didn't think it would jump this much so soon.

I'm guessing a Silver plan is probably over $2,000 a month for 2027.

On the Rx side, make sure you've looked into discount plans like GoodRx, RxSaver, and maybe even TrumpRx (there are quite a number of them).

Thanks to Fitch Ratings ( who gives the ratings on Credit and debt, as approved by the SEC, so they have accurate numbers) we have the totals.

DIRECTV's video subscriber base is the third-largest traditional multi-channel video programming distributor (MVPD) in the U.S. with about 8.2 million subscribers at the end of 1Q26.

The last time it was reported, it was 8.8M at the end of 2Q25, so only a 600,000 loss for 3 quarters, which is a major improvement, since for many years before that, it was losing 500,000 a quarter, 2 Million a year.

It is now losing less than Dish/Sling combined, I believe the Genre Packs are helping to retain and get subscribers.

Still an average of 200,000 lost per quarter ( for the last four quarters), less than Dish/Sling, which lost 241,000 in the second quarter, 366,000 in the first quarter.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

It is really really simple install (no special tools or instruments required and they guide you through using their starlink app and a simple set of instructions.

You can order direct from starlink online or from an authorized retailer.

Not at all like the special equipment needed for a satellite install.

Yes, I fully agree. I can install it with my teeth, and both hands tied behind my back...but this installation is for a commercial user that will not do it themselves, and myself, Im overseas...

But it looks like that we managed to find someone who can drive there for the work.
