Does anyone know if Dish is planning on offering the new NBC 3D Channel that they are launching for the Olympics? According to NBCOlympics.com, they've stated "In a partnerhship with Panasonic, the NBC Sports Group is introducing a 3-D channel that will provide 242 hours of coverage."

This is the full statement listed on their site can be found here. I've also pasted the full statement below.

NBCUniversal will deliver more than 5,000 hours from the London Olympics, with television coverage on NBC, NBC Sports Network, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo, Telemundo, two specialty channels and the first-ever 3D platform, plus live streaming on NBCOlympics.com.

London will be NBC's seventh consecutive Summer Games, dating back to Seoul 1988.

Below are some details:

+ NBC will broadcast 272.5 hours over 17 days, beginning with Primetime coverage of the Opening Ceremony on July 27. Daytime coverage will begin on most weekdays at 10:00a ET/PT, immediately following the TODAY Show, which will originate from London. On weekends, NBC's Daytime shows will begin as early as 5:00a ET/PT. Primetime shows will typically air from 8:00p to 11:30p ET/PT, with a 30-minute break followed by an hour of Latenight coverage.

+ NBC Sports Network will serve as the home to U.S. "team sport" coverage, including basketball and volleyball. The cable channel will offer approximately 257.5 hours of original programming, starting with Team USA's opener vs. France in women's Soccer on Wednesday, July 25.

+ MSNBC will deliver 155.5 hours across several of the 32 sports on the London program, including Badminton, Wrestling, Table Tennis, Basketball and Soccer.

+ CNBC will showcase Boxing, with 73 hours of coverage over 16 days. Previously contested only by men, Boxing adds three weight classes for women in London.

+ Bravo is dedicated to Tennis, televising 56 hours worth of matches (July 28-August 3) from the All England Club.

+ NBCOlympics.com will provide comprehensive live streaming -- all 32 sports, all 302 events -- through a combination of host-broadcaster feeds and simul-streams of NBCU cable channels. The streaming coverage will be available online and in a dedicated mobile app, at no additional cost to authenticated cable, satellite or telco customers.

+ The most extensive Spanish-language Olympic coverage in NBCU history will feature more than 173 hours on Telemundo.

+ Specialty channels dedicated to Basketball and Soccer -- available to cable, satellite and telco providers -- will total 770 hours.

+ In a partnerhship with Panasonic, the NBC Sports Group is introducing a 3-D channel that will provide 242 hours of coverage.

Thanks,
Dan

And just how is 3d going to ever take off if no one wants to broadcast it?? I remember going thru all of this with HD. Everyone was saying its no big deal, not that many people have HD sets so why broadcast it? If the broadcasters dont do 3D, no one sees it and everyone jumps on the wagon that its just a passing thing. And how the heck does it hurt the nay sayers if Dish does do a 3d channel?? I don't understand that. Because someone decided to spend their money to buy 3d equipment because they enjoy 3d, they make it sound like we are pushing it down their throat. You have a bunch on non 3d channels, go watch one of those and leave us alone.

What came first, the chicken or the egg ? If anyone dislikes Dish's stance on 3DTV, hit them where it hurts - in the pocketbook. Cancel Dish, tell them why, and go to a provider with 3D channels.

I think its definitely a cost issue. I used to be a stock holder but after meeting the new management at CES, Charlie has in place I went back to the hotel that night and accessed my account and sold all my DISH stock. I have no faith in the new CEO nor the top team. Since the new management took over, Dish has lost earnings per share over the past year. In a market where most good companies have gained EPS, Dish was a loser. The rub was they gained subscribers at great cost to their bottom line. Just recently I saw Dish has placed an offering of $1B in senior notes to be used for general operating budget. When you borrow money to cover current operating costs that is like when we buy groceries and pay our electric bill with a credit card and then hope things will get better when the bill comes in because our monthly bills exceed our salary. This is usually a bad sign of trouble to come for a company when current revenue doesn't meet operating expenses.

So, while I did hear some scuttle of execs telling me that 3D has no interest among their subscribers, the truth is, I believe the company cant afford to increase expenses unless it has an immediate return on investment. If they felt they could charge for a temp channel they may have done it but since all the other MSO's aren't charging, how would that look?

Here is a partial quote from the STREET publication just 5 days ago:
Despite its growing revenue, the company underperformed as compared with the industry average of 13.3%.
Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues rose by 11.1%. This growth in revenue does not appear to
have trickled down to the company's bottom line, displayed by a decline in earnings per share.
Regardless of the somewhat mixed results with the debt-to-equity ratio, the company's quick ratio of 0.97 is
weak.
Net operating cash flow has slightly increased to $858.55 million or 1.68% when compared to the same
quarter last year. Despite an increase in cash flow, DISH NETWORK CORP's cash flow growth rate is still
lower than the industry average growth rate of 16.04%.
In its most recent trading session, DISH has closed at a price level that was not very different from its closing
price of one year earlier. This is probably due to its weak earnings growth as well as other mixed factors. The
fact that the stock is now selling for less than others in its industry in relation to its current earnings is not
reason enough to justify a buy rating at this time.
The company, on the basis of change in net income from the same quarter one year ago, has significantly
underperformed when compared to that of the S&P 500 and the Media industry. The net income has
significantly decreased by 34.4% when compared to the same quarter one year ago, falling from $549.39
million to $360.31 million.

I understand your point, but on the flip side, if a company's management only thinks in the short term, they are doomed, too.

The public relations of not carrying 3D for the Olympics is horribly negative.

Imagine your neighbors come up to you, and ask, "Wasn't that opening ceremony in 3D amazing?",

You have to answer, "We have Dish Network. They didn't have it in 3D."

"Oh." "Glad I don't have Dish Network."

How many companies have failed, because their products "weren't compatible"? How many have failed, because they didn't keep up? Blackberry comes to mind.

One must weigh all aspects of the choice in carrier. Certain channels may carry more weight than others. Cost. Hardware. These are all things to be considered.

If the only difference between Dish and DirecTV, Comcast, or U-verse was just 3D or the 3D Olympic channel, the choice would be easy. But, for me, they carry a channel not available on DirecTV that is the most-watched channel in my household. Plus, they carry it in HD which is not available on ANY carrier in my area. So, my only choice is to make my displeasure heard, and desires known, through written word.

Well said, a point I have made in the past. You can find things you don't like with any carrier, trick is to pick the best one for you. Direct TV still does not allow you to use HBO GO for instance, a service I use all the time. For me I'll trade no 3D for that and channels in HD that we watch, and Distants etc... . Others have different priorities, maybe NFL Sunday Ticket etc.....Still, Dish should have had 3D available for the Olympics if just for appearance sake.

I wouldn't call that a fip side. We agree completely! I was trying to put a real reason ( money) why Dish is so negative now when they were so positive in support of 3D before. One year they promise several 3D channels, the next year they deny ever showing the demo at CES!

Tonight I flipped through the guide and counted 9 different channels ( I think maybe 4 of those were mirror channels ) showing Olympics next week. If bandwidth was an issue, why would Dish have the same programming on so many different channels? As a 3D enthusiast, All I would need is one of them to be 3D.

On my BBC Feed they have 24 HD channels dedicated to the Olympics, plus the 3D channel.

On the plus side, plenty of upgraded broadcast infrastructure for future use.

Does the Queen appear after the parade, or at the very beginning before the entertainment portion? I missed the beginning, and am hoping to catch that entrance.

I'm getting fabulous picture on Ch. 148 4k, but zero audio with H713. This is with a recorded show (Notre Dame game). Anyone else have this? Audio is fine on every other channel.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

I have gotten back into watching SG-1 and I have recorded most of the episodes to binge watch. What episodes are about the Antarctic or was this a movie? Also where could I watch the SG-1 movies?

Well, there are a couple involving the Antarctic. "Solitudes", S1 E17 (one of my favorites), Then, "Lost City', S7 E21 and E22. Then, in the SGA pilot, "Rising", S1 E1 and E2, it starts out in the Antarctic for about the first 20 minutes or so.

If I understand your question, O'Neill had the Ancient's knowledge in the "Lost City" two-part episode. That was when Anubis attacked Earth and there was a big battle over Antarctica.
