On Demand 1080p

Is there a way to test your TV to see if it will play Dish TV 1080p programs? I haven't tried to rent a 1080p program in a long time. Before, there was a test to see if your TV would play 1080p programs before you rented the program. An older HD TV would never pass the test. Want to try out a 1080p movie in a newer TV before we rent Argo. I never get the test procedure before the rent button is ready to click. Would like to perform the test first before we rent it. Thanks for your help.

Yep the only testing it did was check the EDID of the TV. Pretty seamless.

It's the display information of what the TV is capable of, part of the handshake over HDMI.

I don't think I got that from Dish TV. When I clicked on the movie resume button my TV popped up a window that said 1920x1080p/24. I just now went in and resumed some more movies that I still have in the Rental folder and the Samsung TV window does not pop open. I then resumed Argo 1080p version and again the Samsung window pops up with the 1080p/24 info. Wonder why it does that only for Argo!

It's a seamless transition (other than maybe your TV reporting the different viewing mode.) For all non-1080p events your TV will always be in 1080i (or 720p.) You should only see the popup from your TV when viewing 1080p events.

If you really want the nitty-gritty on EDID, on your Hopper hit YELLOW - BLUE - 3 - HDMI and scroll away :p . In the "info" field if you scroll down, it will tell you the "Supported formats" which should include 1080p if your TV is 1080p-capable (which it obviously is since you watched 1080p.)

For anyone else that cares, on the ViP it's MENU - 6 - 3 - Analysis - HDMI (IIRC, I'll have to check later.)

Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson had an argument about who was responsible for the dynasty building of the early 90's Cowboys.

The rest of us figured it out in about 3 years, Jerry has had over 30 years but still can't admit it. It's all he lives for, to show everyone he can put together a winner. I don't think he can. His kids only know what he taught them.

Jerry made himself General Manager after he bought the team but make no mistake Jimmy engineered that trade. As well as a lot of others at the time.

Jimmy Johnson is a football guy. Jerry Jones is a marketer (hustler).

When I see a football player get a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (like taunting) in a close game, I often wonder what he was thinking. Was he thinking, I'm doing everything I can to make this a better team and help win a championship? Or, was he saying to himself, I want everyone to notice how great I am?

Johnson inspires one, Jones the other.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy - Paramount+

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Where is it going to come from -- specifically?

Why do you think cleaning technology won't improve in the next few hundred years? HEPA filtration was invented as part of the Manhattan Project.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that. ;)

Say, I don't wear socks or shoes in my house either. But for a captain in Star Fleet it looks bad to be walking around the academy with no shoes. Gives off 1960 Hippie vibes.

IFixIt has published their Teardown and they had some positive things to say about the iPhone Duo. It still showed some dust ingress into the hinge assembly but seemed otherwise well-sealed.

But with a considerable number of reports of the main screen dying with similar failures, AppleCare+ should be a no-brainer for this phone.

If the review is like the article, oi! Eighteen paragraphs into the review and... all they've done is not really talk at all about the actual thing they are reviewing.

Halfway into the "written" review, I know more about how the writer "thinks" than I do about what they are writing about. I understand their politics, their self-overestimated understanding of film, their inability to be funny.

Takes about 22 paragraphs to get to one that starts "Anyway, the story kicks off...". Talk about Slop! 😂
