PC viewing & HR34 new install coming

I am new to DirecTv having ordered it Friday. They didn't show for the Sunday install but then we got about a foot of snow!
My question is primarily about how this will work with my PC setup. We currently have Mediacom cable family basic tv and internet. Besides the living room plasma I have a 3 monitor setup with a tower I built right before the Sandy Bridge chips came out,Pentium I7 950, two Radeon HD6850 cards in Crossfire and currently have a cable tv/internet connection to a Hauppage dual tuner card. As I see it I have to run a program to get the Directv feed through my local network? Sounds sketchy to me.

I have a linksys 4200 so I think I have the bandwidth. With the HR44 not yet here for months I believe I'm going to have to hope the installer has a network interface adapter to sell me to link the genie and my network? Our current cable internet which we have to keep is 15MB down but often is much lower(dang university students), I'm wondering if I should step up a tier and hope it is actually a speed improvement, I'll already be hit with a penalty for dropping the video feed.

Then there are the results of the DirecTv2PC playback advisor. According to this the processor isn't quite up to snuff, and the dual graphics card setup is inadequate! Can someone let me know what I'm getting into here. Thanks

The hauppauge card should have come with an add on that allows input from the receiver (Either Component or Composite). If you've got that, then your set.. just run the appropriate cables (YRW or BGRWR) to the inputs for the Hauppauge and you should be good to go!

umm... just in case.. The cables are Yellow, White and Red (standard definition only) or Blue, Green, Red, White and Red (High Def) the first three carry Video only and the last two carry Audio.

To clarify the PC is in another room than the receiver which is hooked to the Panny Plasma in the living room. Fortunately I have a slot left despite the dual graphics cards taking up four! So I am assuming I need a mini genie to hook up via composite then I have DirecTv gui and functionality on PC? Not what I've read. It's my understanding that you can get recorded material(by way of your local network through a program downloaded to the pc) but not the interface or live, and it takes newer hardware than my two year old build(pre-sandybridge).
Then there is the lack of HDCP, this being a shortcoming of the graphics cards?
What about a mini genie and hook it up hdmi to my largest monitor and chose that input when I want to use it, $6 a month extra. Full functionality.

The Client (mini-Genie) can hook up to your Hauppauge OR to your monitor.. It can output via component, composite or HDMI. You'd view it thru the Hauppauge.. Or since the Monitor has an HDMI input, you can run the output from the client to that .. which is what I do.
The Software your asking about is DirecTV2PC.. which is a seperate and completly different animal.. and yes, that only gives you access to recorded programs on the DVR.. assuming the DVR is connected to your home network.. and lack of HDCP wil probably stop that program from running on your computer.

sorry, missed a question.. HDCP is usually a feature of either the graphics chip or the drivers.. it can be either one.. Do some googling on your specific card.. sometimes theres there's an option in the drivers that can be turned on.. I ran into that once on an Nvidia driver set.. it was a while ago

The problem with upgrading a videocard that old, is that it would probably need to upgrade the motherboard too, at that point why not build a whole new pc.

Has anyone noticed an FF stutter with 713? I used to be able to hit FF a few times and skip smoothly. After 713 (maybe 712), when I skip forward, there is a definite stutter for as many times as I have pressed FF.

Can anyone check on this and report back? Recorded programs and then press skip forward a few times to see if it's smooth? Normally, it just jumps to the right place after the skips.

I'm getting fabulous picture on Ch. 148 4k, but zero audio with H713. This is with a recorded show (Notre Dame game). Anyone else have this? Audio is fine on every other channel.

My wife mentioned that her remote is acting strange this morning. She hit FF and it went to 15x FF.

Had a customer call recently saying their remote was really acting up, some buttons no longer functioned. Told them to reboot the Hopper....problem fixed.
Wife bought me a t-shirt that has "have you tried turning it off and on again?"

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

Well, there are a couple involving the Antarctic. "Solitudes", S1 E17 (one of my favorites), Then, "Lost City', S7 E21 and E22. Then, in the SGA pilot, "Rising", S1 E1 and E2, it starts out in the Antarctic for about the first 20 minutes or so.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy - Paramount+

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Where is it going to come from -- specifically?

Why do you think cleaning technology won't improve in the next few hundred years? HEPA filtration was invented as part of the Manhattan Project.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that. ;)
