My local Fox station owned by Raycom just ran a scroll across the screen warning viewers that service will likely be interrupted on Dish Network if a retransmission dispute cannot be resolved in short order. I missed the scroll at the beginning so I am not sure what it said. But they were urging viewers to call Dish to pressure them to cave in.

So the question is, is this a Raycom-wide dispute? I know that Raycom has a sports channel they want to get out everywhere.

Years ago, the chief engineer at Time Warner here told me they get the locals by fiber, antenna, or microwave. This was for, I presume, five networks (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and WB/CW).

I understand that both D* and E* are uplinked by our CBS affiliate but no idea how the signals (from the other networks) get to this uplink point.

I've been to the D* reception point a number of times. Like I said, they get 1/5 via fiber, the rest OTA. They all get muxed together, then sent via fiber (primary & backup) to Cheyenne (or wherever HQ is is). I've never been to E*, but I know they're not colocated with a station, so that makes getting the signals via fiber expensive.

Neilson needs a revamp. There is no need for diaries in this day and age. What Neilson should do is make a deal with set top box manufactures and TV providers to set up an infrastructure that would allow the cable box units to collect the data, transmit it to the providers and then the providers send it to Neilson. Sure some people may not like this but they could just "opt out" by clicking on the opt out button in the units settings.
That's a good idea. I wonder if providers could use this as a negotiating tool... "we'll give you statistics on what people are watching in exchange for a lower fee per subscriber." Let's think outside the box.

Do any locals transmit the collected signals via satellite to the providers ? I'm positive that's what I was told happens here...

You can be certain that Dish, Directv, and the cablecos use the viewing data that they collect via their set-tops in negotiations !

Pretty sure not. However, I do think DirecTV uses a Ka licence at 101 for the purpose of locals backhaul in remote areas, but I think it is DirecTV that uplinks them from the OTA collection site, not the locals themselves. Although in some cases, they may outsource this to one particular local to do it for all stations in the market.

?Remember that they are not typically all transmitted to Cheyenne. They also have uplinks in Gilbert AZ, Monee IL, Orange NJ, New Braunfels TX, Quicksburg VA, and Spokane WA.

Or in this case, inside the box (cable/sat box).

?:facepalm

Not that I know of here. I know where the D* headend is and they fiber out. The E* headend (if it's where I think it is) is MILES from stations so not real practical to receive, ship back to a station & uplink.

Actually the diary is good in that it isn't real time. It allows the DVR now. They include those that watch via DVR instead of real time. I'm one of those that I watch less than 1% real time. So links to the box if it's DVR will be almost as delayed and the box reporting. I do believe that they are going to go for a variation of the book on line.

But.....if you like Tulsa King....looks like you would probably like this as well. I don't mind spin-offs as long as they don't involve a sassy niece who moves from the big city

I thought I would come here and find lots of complaints about the update to the dish anywhere mobile app, but am not seeing any. It used to look just like the desktop webpage. Now you can no longer filter by sports channels or movie channels. Plus that they made it look like a big button telephone and you see fewer channels in the screen which requires more scrolling. Yes I realize you can look at sports then select which sport you want to look at, I just liked being able to see all sporting events in the guide with all other channels being filtered out. Am I alone in the wilderness on this?

I'm not a big fan of the new layout, especially on my Apple TV. It used to look like the old Guide layout on the Hopper 3, but they changed parts of that, too.

You don't like Tony, or Tony as the Director (he's only been there for 30 seconds now) or you don't like NCIS ?

No. Bring in someone new.🤔 Tony is not serious enough for me. Parker is too close to the team and Tim is too young to take over IMO.

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...
Tony said: I am the New Tony, Tim .... (something to that effect)

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.

Might be worth a watch when it comes out. Looks like typical big corp against the little guy movie BUT....there is a reason this plot type is so oft repeated, it draws audiences.

If you're going try to read / listen to the book (can't recommend the audio book enough) before this comes out, I'd avoid trailers.

Trailer below, spoiling it to make sure you read the above bold message first. The book / audio book are fantastic. Go into this blind if you can IMO!

Kind of disappointed at how much they show. A lot still to see, but man, some good reveals in the book that are just served up here.

I've seen it twice. Can't recommend the audio book enough, Ray Porter's performance is amazing and there's so much more in the book than the movie.

Forgot to comment. I did watch when it first came out on MGM. I enjoyed it a lot. I think reading the book made it easier to watch. Several friends commented it was a little hard to follow.

I agree. That can go for pretty much any book vs movie. Back when I was single I would read any Stephen King or John Grisham book I could get my hands on. When you read a book you make up the scenes and characters in your mind.....the movie version always disappoints.

A big win for the Patriots, and they are now 3-2.

Browns lose a close one with... The Jets. That is a classic Browns loss (granted, any loss is a classic one it seems). 49'ers, Vikings, and Chiefs remain undefeated. The AFC north have a three way tie at 3-2 for second place.

I had quit watching this show years ago because I ended up more annoyed than entertained. Well......I'm STILL more annoyed than entertained. I DO find it interesting to see how things work behind the scenes at many businesses. What annoys me is how utterly out of touch CEOs are with the companies they run. At the end of almost every episode the head of the company is amazed at how hard the employees have to work and many times have to work around impossible guidelines set forth from headquarters.

I found this one interesting because the new CEO had big plans for this company, Muscle Maker Grill, and it looked like the stores were all pretty busy. Recent history hasn't been good to this company however. I bet the covid lockdowns were the real killer.
