Odd, very odd ASC-1 operation.......

Well, this is rather odd. After getting the ASC-1 installed and having several sats setup, I have a very odd operation. Lets say I want to change satellites from 101 to 105. Bring up the satellite list in the Nano, move the cursor to 105, press OK and the usual display of moving dish pops up, and nothing happens with the ASC-1. After a few seconds the display shows "No Signal." Then after waiting anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute and 15 seconds, the ASC-1 comes to life and moves the dish! And sometimes over runs the setting and I have to bump it around to get signal.
The G-Box was working without any problems when it was removed for the ASC-1.
ANY ideas???

Update: Neither the RS232 test program software or the ASC1 loader software will recognize the PCs serial port. The port never initializes. RT-Cat is shipping the ASC1 in and I will bench test and load the latest firmware. Once the ASC1 is verified operational and running with latest firmware, we can figure out the PC serial issues.

One thing at a time..... Decided the best thing to do right now is to verify correct operation of the ASC1, update firmware and get RT-Cat enjoying his system!

Well, the problem with mine doesn't seem to have been the switch after all. I loaded the latest firmware and hooked it back up to the MicroHD, which had been working fine for a few days with the Vbox. The ASC1 was working absolutely great and better with the new firmware until, same as last time, I programmed in the last few sats again and then everything went out the window. Only this time with the new firmware it would still move automatically to sats with no hangup when selected from the receiver.

Moved to a sat position and no reception, tried another, nothing. Tried to manually move it from the remote and front buttons on the ASC1, the remote plus front panel buttons were locked out it seemed, wouldn't move from either of them.

Hooked the Vbox back up and the count was off by 100 counts or so for each sat. Adjusted for that and everthing's been working fine with the Vbox for a few days now. This is what the ASC1 did before, except this time it still moved to all the sats without hanging up.

Hooked the ASC1 up and did a global reset, programmed in a few sats and it seemed to be working fine. Hooked the Vbox back up, because right now I'm not gonna mess with the ASC1, I have too many other things to do right now, but I am going to try setting it up again soon and I'll document things a lot better, I.E., how many sats are programmed, which one it messes up on, etc.

What kind of sensor cable do you have going out to your actuator motor on your dish? Perhaps the ASC-1 is more sensitive to induction noise that the cable is picking up causing miscounts? If the cable you use has a spare wire left on it, try grounding it on one end. Maybe it'll help as an easy solution.

I'll try that when I hook it back up. The cable does have a spare wire that I can use for that. thanks, Primestar. The cable is what came with my RS C dish, has two coax, three wires for the motor and three for the servo. I'm using my ortho, so I can use one of the servo wires for a ground.

Only ground a drain wire that is adjoined to a shield. Only connect on one end or the other. Not both.

Document the programming sequence so we have something to go on. There are many directions that we could explore and dozens of variables with the description.

I have programmed all 99 positions with many receivers including the microHD. There are no known issues with current firmware or incompatibilities with the microHD loaded with recent firmware (January or June 2013).

What version ASC1 firmware is loaded?

Perform a Global Reset after loading new firmware?

Using the STB program or loading a Satellite List to the ASC1?

Is a specific position number being saved when problem occurs?

Is it possible that DiSEqC 1.2 resync option was selected on the STB?

Did any unusual characters display on the ASC1 LCD? If so, when?

Was the count display immediately out of sync after programming a position or was it incorrect after power cycling?

How many DiSEqC 1.2 positions does the STB firmware support? 99?

Did the count increase/decrease when the STB moved the actuator (front panel EAST/WEST disabled)?

What menu line was selected when the EAST/WEST buttons were unresponsive?

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that.

Since it was already "paid" for, I spent the two hours of my time watching the John Cena action movie on Apple TV, "Matchbox The Movie" even though the reviews were brutal. It was better than I expected, so I didn't feel like I had wasted an afternoon watching it. But it felt like another "Reacher"/"Neghley"/"Mission: Impossible"/"Fast & Furious" crash and blow stuff up with lots of automatic gunfire mixed in movie featuring covert CIA operatives.

I don't think we'll get a follow-up movie from this. I expect Mattel will have other toy lines to exploit.

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

West Palm Beach is getting it on WTCN-CD/43 MNT. Still nothing for Fort Myers

Also, the Thunder's deal for KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa will be via a special cable and DIRECTV only feed of those stations. OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games.

It's only available for streaming customers, they still haven't added that batch of CW stations to satellite.

Even if it was, satellite customers still can't stream their CW affiliates via the app, just the Big 4, select PBS stations and some independents (mainly the ones that have full season NHL/NBA rights)

WCWW/25 CW South Bend and WBKP/5 CW Marquette are now testing on the stream server. These are both already available on satellite.
