Hello all,

I am in the middle of building a new house and the RG-6/CAT6 is to be installed on Monday. I currently have Dish but it is an older ViP 722k and I want to upgrade to a Hopper system. I plan to have HDTV service available to 7 TVs so I have been able to figure out that means 2 Hoppers and 5 Joey's with the option for one more Joey (max 8 TVs, with only 6 with live TV). I need some help figuring out the best way to wire the house so this will work.

All the wiring in the house will home-run to a central structured media panel, coax runs could be as long as 100ft between the panel and the different TV locations so I think this will be at the max the Hopper/Joey system can handle. The dish on the side of the house will be about 50 feet from this panel and my questions mostly revolve around it. I have seen online that the Duo Node should go on the outside of the house about 10 feet from the dish and will have three cables that run to the dish and 4 cables that will need to run (in my case) to the media panel. I really dislike cables on the side of my house so is it possible to put the node in the media panel and have 3, 40-50ft cables run to the dish? Also, where the dish has to go on the South side of the house is not close to my grounding point so what is the best way to handle that? Every place there is RG-6 there will also be CAT6 for my home network so one or both Hoppers (and all the Joeys too) could be connected directly to the network if needed. In the structured media panel, I would like to have the Duo Node, both host lines will run directly to the two Hoppers (no Taps), the two client lines will go to splitters (one 3-way and one 2-way) and then off to the Joey locations. All the coax is RG-6 rated at 3GHz or better.

As an inventory, I would need:
1 x Dish Pro Plus 1000.4 (or something?) dish/LNB
1 x Duo Node
1 x 3-way spliiter (any required spec's for the splitters?)
1 x 2-way splitter
Lots of RG-6

I will probably go through an installer when it comes time to actually install the dish, Hoppers, and Joeys (maybe just for installing/pointing the dish) but I want to be sure all the cables are in place; again, I dislike cables on the side of my house.

Can anyone help me out with my questions? If anyone has any pointers for the wiring or if I missed anything please let me know. The wiring will go in soon but we won't be moving in until July so maybe I should plan for different hardware? From what it sounds like I won't be able to benefit from a Super Joey anyways but maybe the Wireless Joey makes sense somewhere? Maybe as the 8th TV if that happens someday. On a side note, I wish this system just used my data network.

Thank you all in advance, this looks like a great community judging by what I have read in the forums.

Also Super Joey will need RG6 2150, no RG59.

My opinion just use 3.0 tested/rated and run the fattest conduit possible.
Cat 6 everywhere also.

There are a number of choices in the RG59 domain that are good to 3GHz. Absent the voltage loss concerns, these should work just fine (if that's what you happen to have handy). What about the Super Joey makes you think it needs to provide lots of current upstream?

For the SJ, the installation rules say rg6 2150 mhz. No rg59. Same with the TV1 feed for a VIP or the 3ghz to a Hopper.

TV2s and Joeys can be RG59.

Now that isn't to say it won't work, but as a tech, we can't use it unless it's approved.

Series 59 cable can create intermod within the cable, yielding 6MHz beats and raising the noise floor. At lower freq's its fine, but as you increase in frequency(> 1GHz) there is more propensity to create the CPD-Intermod issues.

Also Dish (and Direct) is not MoCA, its a proprietary multi-room scheme using a carrier at ~840MHz (around 2MHz for Direct). MoCA is a system whose architecture is designed from 1125MHz to 1675MHz to be out of the forward band used now and in the foreseeable future for CATV. They are not compatible nor compliant with each other.

You're completely wrong about this (including the center frequency that DIRECTV uses for DECA).

http://www.mocalliance.org/news/pr_100420_MoCA_adds_Mid_RF_Frequencies_to_MoCA_1.1.php

MoCA 1.1 added two bands in the UHF area for DBS use. One band, designated "E band", is centered at 550MHz is a little over 100MHz wide. The other, designated "F band", is 200MHz wide centered around 750MHz.

http://www.mocalliance.org/marketin...ecification_for_Device_RF_Characteristics.pdf

DIRECTV's DECA uses MoCA in the E band (channel E3) and DISH uses MoCA in the F band.

For further confirmation about DISH's use of MoCA, here's a video that was recorded at the 2013 CES featuring Michael Hawkey of Echostar talking about the Hopper and Joey using MoCA:

Threads about giving advise for new cable runs in new home, not whose right about Moca.
Advice has been given, now its up to the op to consider his options.

In that the ultimate choice depends on what is or isn't needed, the additional information is useful.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I'm getting fabulous picture on Ch. 148 4k, but zero audio with H713. This is with a recorded show (Notre Dame game). Anyone else have this? Audio is fine on every other channel.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

I have gotten back into watching SG-1 and I have recorded most of the episodes to binge watch. What episodes are about the Antarctic or was this a movie? Also where could I watch the SG-1 movies?

Well, there are a couple involving the Antarctic. "Solitudes", S1 E17 (one of my favorites), Then, "Lost City', S7 E21 and E22. Then, in the SGA pilot, "Rising", S1 E1 and E2, it starts out in the Antarctic for about the first 20 minutes or so.

Which one has O'Neil being Ancients? I am at the end of Season 8 now.

If I understand your question, O'Neill had the Ancient's knowledge in the "Lost City" two-part episode. That was when Anubis attacked Earth and there was a big battle over Antarctica.
