Invacom SNH-031 Review.

I'll start off this review with a note about dish size.
As FTA in general has become more and more popular, people have been looking for ways to maximise signal strength.
Here in the USA FTA is still relatively new on Ku band, although we have a multitude of satellites to work we are unfortunately lagging behind those in Europe whose FTA line-up easily matches a regular DishNetwork/DirecTV package.
A 30" (76cm) dish for Ku is more than adequate to receive most of the programming across the pond and they have a fantastic range of powerful satellites to aim their dish toward.
Here, we're not so lucky (yet) a 76cm dish is considered the bare minimum to receive FTA signals with a 90cm dish being preferred.
Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to install a larger dish which is where the Invacom LNBs come in.

Over the last year I've used a Winegard 76cm dish along with a DMSI ASC321 LNB, by all accounts my setup worked well and was content with what I had.

I received the Invacom SNH-031 last week from Tim over at DMS International, everybody knows these are *the* LNB to own with their low .3dB noise figure so I decided to put this to the test.

What's in the box?
The Invacom arrived double-boxed from DMSI and was packed securely to prevent damage.
Upon opening the inner box I noticed a spec sheet along with a table of graphs with the noise figure and gain response from this actual LNB.
Invacom must be proud of their figures, nobody else I know of shows you exactly what the specs on the LNB you just bought are.
Invacom also included a gaiter to prevent water ingress through the F-connector.

The SNH-031 is a fair amount heavier than the usual Ku LNB which I found reassuring - you know it's constructed to a high standard by the look and feel but not anywhere near heavy enough to affect the mounting arm on your dish.

After taking numbers from a few of my favourite transponders with my Winegard I took down the ASC321 and bolted the SNH-031 to the arm.

This is where the important part begins, anyone can claim a certain amount of gain, or a low noise figure, but it means nothing on paper unless it delivers.

The Invacom delivers.

That's all there is to it.
Taking my favourite transponder on Galaxy10R - TheTube on 11720/V/27692 my usual strength was 32% Signal/100% Quality which fluctuated especially when wind was blowing and caused pixellation and macroblocks onscreen.
The Invacom raised my signal by 5 points to 37 but by far the best part was a ROCK SOLID 100% quality reading.

No pixellation.
No macroblocks.
All music, all the time.

After trying the Invacom on a few other weaker transponders it delivered the goods, a few Canadian feeds off Anik had always been very temperamental, and while it didn't give me a 500% raise in signal it did give a rock-steady picture without the usual squeaks and dropped frames I'd normally get.

Conclusion:
At the end of the day when it's all installed, for a lot of people it's whether the thing works as claimed and whether you can watch some good free TV without having to worry about the more technical aspects.
Sure, people can throw numbers around all day but when you find something that can actually prove how effective it is in real life, you know you've found something special.
It may cost a little more than the el-cheapo units found on eBay but the extra initial expense is well worth it especially for a novice installer who can quickly become frustrated with a dubious signal from equally dubious equipment.

The Invacom SNH-031 is a universal LNB aimed at those who wish to squeeze the best possible signal from their dish regardless of size.

And it does just that, extremely well.

Add on the fact that your Invacom is guaranteed to work for 5 years and you have a clear winner.

Many thanks to the extremely knowledgeable and helpful Tim Heinrichs from http://www.dmsiusa.com - to Pete (PSB) and to all who help out in the FTA section.

I bought mine on Ebay. I paid US $29.95 plus shipping.

Questions:
These LNBF's are .03 correct?
What is a Primestar LNBF which I currently have?
Is there considerable improvement?
I have trees that block G11, IA6 & G3 in most of the backyard that effect those 3 dishes. Is it worth it to buy one, two or three?
These fit right onto the dish, correct?

Thanks for answering if you know.

PSB
Yes they are 0.3 db. The P* LNB's are 0.6db or higher!

They have a 40mm neck so are the same size as a standard LNBF and should fit all FTA dish, they also have a 120mm flange version that can simply bolt on to a P* or DirecPC feedhorn.

A low noise LNBF may help slightly with a less than perfect line of sight, but I would not bank on that, it will only get worse as the trees grow.
sikma
PSB, how much are these .03 lnbf's going for?

Hard getting used to the new younger Gibbs, Mark Harmons son had the right look but I understand he didn't want the role.
Still I'm enjoying, pretty good job with Franks.

edit:
Sorry, I got the shows mixed up, were talking Origins ...
I've liked Most of them once we've gotten past the 1st 3-4, getting to know who was who took a bit in the beginning.
It's a bit harder seeing we already Know the person, then go back and see how they became that person.

Mark Harmon is coming back as Gibbs in Origins, for the full season. Just saw, Dinozzo too, on NCIS . That will be an interesting writing project.

Really good one with OG Gibbs bookending it...

You don't like Tony, or Tony as the Director (he's only been there for 30 seconds now) or you don't like NCIS ?

I just received 6 receiver 2 port mini Multiswitch and it work great, no external power need it, and you can connect 6 receiver instead of 4 on most Mini Multiswitches... If anyone is interested in where they can get one PM me....

Have you tested using external power? Over the years, have found unpowered polarity switching to be unreliable. Especially problematic when used with DiSEqC motors or switch stacking.
H
No I have not. I just got it the other day and it is connected to six receivers working just fine. What I do is non power mini multi-switches work best with LNBF's and with LNB's
H
It also has a IPS and a OPS switch on the side of it with a power led light showing when is on. It seems to be very nice build switch

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Well, I helped him set up a gmail acct....I actually wanted to see what the new process is for setting up a gmail acct since it had been years since I set mine up. Anyway, I showed him how to forward the emails he wanted to keep over.

For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.

I rebooted my MacBook Air and it's zipping right along. Sorry, but it was taking over 20 seconds to load pages, with the pulsing blue bars so it was munching on something.

Can't help but wonder if a worker overlooked checking the harness. I rarely ride a roller coaster anymore but when I do I check the harness myself pretty aggressively.
Can't imagine what the son is going through.

Back on the Goliath Roller Coaster ... I'm interested to find more details as well ...
Like where on the track did this happen (somewhere I read that it was on the climb up the top), which is impossible ...

They really need to take that ride and add at the very least, seatbelts ...

The Park is opening back up on Friday, the ride will Not be opening ... personally, I would keep it closed until different type of restraints can be designed and installed (over the winter).

I find it hard to believe that this ride is even allowed to be running with the restraints that exist at the moment, there are other rides that use the same type and they have been shut down across the country.

You got to believe that every ride has at least 2 types of restraint systems in place.

I wonder what and when we will hear from the Manufacturer ... and whatever governing bodies control these ...

Just think, this is a Major Amusement Park .... I would not have any problem getting on the Roller Coasters I have rode ...

Imagine what these County Fairs and others like them, I would not be caught Dead on one of them ... they get put up and tore down every other week, where is the safety for those rides ... No Thank You.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.

Had no idea there were that many redundancies built into those restraints.
It makes sense, however, I would want more types of restraints, so if one doesn't work, the other does ... the restraints coming over the shoulder I would have expected ... with a Seat belt as last resort.

Fwiw, I inquired with what they use on Coasters at Cedar Point, various Coasters, different restraints according to what the car and track requires ...

NONE of the Coasters at CP use THAT particular system :)
I'm glad to see ...

with a Seat belt as last resort.
According to the article, when you see a seat belt on a ride like this, it is basically used as a way of making sure the rider isn't too large/fat to safely ride the ride.
