After searching & asking, more searching & asking, then a little more searching & asking, I now have an C-band dish.

I went to go look at it today. While it was in less than prime condition, I couldn't pass up on the price (free). I had plenty of help from the owner's brother and he even supplied the tools and trailer!

It measures nearly 8' across the dish rim. From what remains on the LNB housing, it looks it said Echostar. I haven't found any other identifying labels or mark on the dish or polar mount.

It'll need some TLC to make operational, but it was enough setup not to pass up. The mesh is dented up and a portion of one panel is missing. At the very least I can use the polar mount and pole.

Here are some photos:

Jason, did you get the system up and running?Dying to hear more than anything how the asc1 is working for you?Keep us posted.

Hopefully soon...

Other than gathering parts and supplies, I haven't made much progress. Inclement weather, seasonal events and other obligations have kept me away from setting this up. About all that I've been able to do is mess around with one of my Ku dishes.
Jason S
It looks like the ASC1 may not get setup with the Echostar dish after all...

However, it looks like there could be a new post entitled "SAMI dish rescued..."

I had inquired to the city earlier about a dish on a roof (post #64), then was directed to speak to the county about it. The county commissioners had a meeting today and my inquiry was brought up. They decided it wouldn't be worth posting a notice and taking bids. Additionally, I was told I could have 'it' if I were to pay for the time it took the county road & bridge personnel to take it off the roof ('it' being the dish, polar mount, and what I presume to be a NPRM)...

As for the road & bridge personnel, I had to inquire about how much they thought that would cost- especially if it took several hours. I was told the county personnel rate would be $10-15 per hour plus the rate for any use of equipment (e.g., lifting equipment). It should only take two people to remove the dish, plus one guy to lean on the shovel... I would rather do it myself, but being that the dish is on the roof of a county owned building, etc.; I'm going to take their offer and hope they don't muck things up removing the dish.

I was told that county personnel would contact me in a few days, but that with Christmas and New Year coming up it may be after the 1st before they actually take it down.

Attached below is an extremely poor cell phone photo. I could barely make out SAMI on the LNB housing, so I'm presuming it's all SAMI (not just the LNB housing). From what I can see from ground level, there appears to be some minor hail damage. Sorry for the poor photo.
1212141304a.jpg

I would be happy to know any additional information from those familiar with SAMI dishes. I don't know the size exactly, but it appears to be over 8' in diameter. The actuator arm appeared to have most of the plating on it still and overall everything looked to be in pretty good shape (at least from the ground)...
FaT Air
Looks like a SAMI. (Nice dish) Hope they don't 'muck it up' NPRM? sweet!
Don't sweat the hail dents. Should do little degradation on C band (ulnless it's 'massive' hail dent damage) and/but much can be 'massaged' out.

Update on the Echostar progress...

Until now, the coax I was using was a mixture of new and used and laying on top of the ground. I finally had time and decent weather to work on getting some ribbon cable and coax buried. I had previously purchased the partial spool of Commscope 8136 ribbon cable and decided I should also run an additional length of RG-6, since I was at it.

To save digging, I decided to run the cables to my shop, then route them through the shop and then back out to the Echostar dish. Overall length of cable would've been the same either way.

I began Friday, after work, digging a trench to the shop and made good progress until I ran out of light and hit frozen soil. So I used a mattock to open the ground and then watered the trench.

Saturday, after more digging and watering, I was able to finish the trench out to the shop building. The trench didn't go nearly as straight as I would've liked, but it's done... After the trenching, I fished Commscope 8136 ribbon with a RG-6 through the PVC electrical conduit to the shop. (Since moving in last year, the yard has been a work in progress- one of my 'little helpers' thought it needed mowing, in addition to running off with my tools)

Sunday I dug the trench from the shop to the Echostar pad and routed the wiring through the shop. I didn't have enough conduit to finish the job, so pretty much quit early.

Today, I got the remaining supplies I needed to finish the job. Prior to completing the wiring job, I decided I should verify wiring to ensure that what I intended to do would actually work. This is the wiring schematic that I put together:

[GALLERY=media, 42]Sat_dish_wiring by Jason S posted Jan 19, 2015 at 10:05 AM[/GALLERY]

I very much appreciate Titanium (Brian Gohl) for taking the time to verify the coax/switch setup prior to finalizing the wiring.

After all the cable was run, I attached the Power and Sensor wires to the actuator and wired the drain wire on the actuator end. I swapped coax on the 1.2m Ku dish currently on 97W and 103W and ran the cable to the shop, in which the Amiko 4-port switch resides. At the house, I was able to bundle the wires together and make a relatively neat installation into the house. All the wiring fit nicely, but it is very snug in the box with the extra run from the 22khz switch plus the switch itself and the OTA antenna cable.

I was floored whenever I powered on the receiver and switched through the satellites and found that everything was working and all the transponders were at least the same quality, if not better.

There is still some tidying up to do. But now I've got well over half of my "New Year! Any big FTA projects this year?" completed with room to expand.

At this point, I just need to get the ASC1 wired up and programmed...

This may be the final post for the Eshostar rescue...

As I had the ribbon cable run from the house to the dish, I verified continuity before hooking in the ASC1 actuator controller. To do this I connected the two leads for the motor together (in this case red and white wires), as well as the two leads for the sensor wires (brown and orange on my setup):
DSC06539.JPG
(Note that the ribbon cable I ran is two strands of RG-6, plus the motor control wires, shielded sensor wires and LNB polarotor control wires)

I then went to the actuator at the dish and verified continuity using a digital and analog meter. Here is the analog meter on the motor power wires:
DSC06542_2.JPG

Here is the analog meter on the sensor wires:
DSC06544_2.JPG

As the wiring to the house (and receiver) tested good. I hooked up two sets of wire jumpers to the motor. One set of jumpers was attached to the motor power wire terminals and one set of jumpers was attached to the motor sensor wire terminals. I didn't take photos of this. However, the motor sensor jumpers ran to the analog meter set on 10 ohm and the motor power jumpers ran to a 18V Milwaukee battery pack.

I hooked up the power wire jumpers to the battery pack and watched the analog meter. It fluctuated slightly, so I slowly connected and disconnected the power to the motor to verify the reed switch was operating.

Once I was satisfied that the reed switch (sensor) was operating, I verified east and west limits and ran the dish to the west limit. Then I attached the ribbon cable wires running to the house and reinstalled the motor cover.

As the motor wiring tests went well, I hooked up the ASC1 into my existing setup. I then began the Diseqc 1.2 setup process...

The setup process entailed running the dish from 139W to 78W and setting satellite positions. The Manhattan receiver apparently communicated well with the ASC1, and as I saved positions the actuator controller prompted that the position was saved. As I had the C-band functioning well, I went ahead and established for future additions.

This is the wiring schematic I have right now, which should accommodate future expansion (including motorizing a Ku dish) and moving some things around:
Sat_dish_wiringII.jpg

At this time, I have some tidying up to do with the FTA setup on both the house end and C-band end of things, but here is the final bit of my motorizing process (ASC1 hooked up and working quite well):
DSC06547.JPG
Now that I have the 7.5' Echostar/KTI setup and operating well; I have to figure out how, when and where to place the 'new' 10' SAMI...

As you may have noticed we are doing a Fund Raiser for SatelliteGuys!

As many of you know I have been paying for a majority of the operation of the site out of my own pocket for awhile now. Now looking at things we have a number of renewals coming up that I could use some help with. These renewals include the license renewal for our Forum Software, Renewal of a number of our add on's the site uses, renewal of domain names etc.

I have set a goal of $400.00 - any extra that comes in will just go to fund the operations of the site. None of the money will go to me (I tried BuyMeACoffee a few months ago, and they denied me saying they do not do business with Satellite Piracy sites... which we are not... hell we host the beta programs for both DISH and DIRECTV here...)

Anyways... if you would like to help out please click the link below.

Thank you in advance. :)

I planned on removing it today, but then my fathers car broke down and I had to drive him all around to get his stuff done. Then I had a doctors appointment after that which was annoying...

Dr asks me if I have had any changes, so I tell him something wrong with me that started a month or so ago and his reply back is, that it sucks to get old... I hate that. Why ask me. if your going to come back with a smart ass answer.

Anyays I hope to get rid of Tapatalk tomorrow. :)

And we had more people donate today, thank you! The extra money is going to future expenses since things like add ons don't expire at the same time.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU AGAIN!

No excuse for a flippant response like that from a doctor! I'd be looking for a different one.

Tapatalk has been removed.

I have added a new feature which is a work in progress called "Social Feed" which displays the forums Facebook style. Its nice for people who like that, but needs work. But i have been watching this one for awhile and the author is being really responsive to suggestions and adding them. So if you have any please let me know and I can pass them along. :)

Due to security concerns and the fact that the Tapatalk Plugin for Xenforo is no longer being updated we have removed Tapatalk support from SatelliteGuys.

For those who were using it we recommend using our PWA App instead which is faster and does not have all the spam Tapatalk had. Below is a graphic showing how to add SatelliteGuys to your devices home screen. (While iOS is shown the process is mostly the same for Android.)

Thanks for your understanding. :)

Caught up to the 500... err... k in St. Louis. What a race! Andretti Motorsport were doing very well with Ericsson and Kirkwood, meanwhile Power was moving up the grid. Veekay started cautiously. He was working the tires just right, becoming more lethal later in the stint. Rasmussen was racing likewise, not nearly as insane as he has in the past. Palou was leading the race, in a shocker to all. Caio Collet was having a wonderful ride, making Ferucci potentially sweat a bit. Rain came, rain went, rain came, rain went. Generally mild sprinkles, but enough to pause racing on an oval.

Palou would kind of send Siegel into the wall. Siegel really didn't do much wrong. As he noted, you have to turn at some point. Palou had acres of room below and Siegel might have had his ticket out of Indycar stamped. Dixon was doing the fuel thing and got busted twice by yellows, not pitting before the flag came out. Then the most critical happened... Palou ran out of gas on pit lane, effectively giving Newgarden the race lead and win. Newgarden had a very early pit, so he was able to slide in, get service and go. Meanwhile, everyone else was confused and stuck behind Palou for a bit. Once people figured what was happening, Newgarden had a major advantage of several seconds. Newgarden wouldn't look back and when it went green again, he'd hold the lead for the win.

Massive credit to Juncos Hollinger who bested Penske in getting Veekay out before Malukas in a transition that was oddly bizarre. I haven't had time to check, but I'm wondering if Veekay was about to run out of fuel or cut a tire. He was charging late in a stint, got up to fifth, and then tailed back for a few laps to 10th or 11th. It looked like it was over. Went into the pits, and after the pitting sequence was over, Veekay was well inside the top ten again. It was weird. And he charged, getting up to fourth. He made a late move on Rasmussen, but Rasmussen held his position with some great driving. In fact, there was a ton of incredible racing passing, not passing all race long. Veekay would finish 4th. A podium would have been awesome, but it is a great outcome for a guy who hopefully will get a break with a big team. We saw what Veekay could do with a Honda last season with fuel save, imagine replacing Simpson on Ganassi and having speed to go with fuel saving. His 6th at Indy and 4th at St. Louis get him up to 13th in the points standings and only 5 points outside of the top 10.

Ericsson finished second, resigned to finishing behind the current best in the world guy on a short oval. Rasmussen got the final step on the podium, a nice rebound to what has been an otherwise bad year for him, and a good reward to ECR who just extended his contract.

They raced USAC cars at Daytona once. Once! People died. Aj Foyt said 'f this', and left after the first go around. AJ freaking Foyt thought it was crazy! And cars weren't nearly as fast as they are now.

I think they tried Talladega once too.

So I have recently setup Indoor OTA due to drop to Local from Dish, and found out reason why I have such bad signal is my Monitor now none of cable for my monitor near OTA or it cable going to TV, but the TV right above my Monitor maybe not even a foot.

If i have 3 to 2 bars with monitor off said channel for most part of perfectly watchable, but as soon my monitor is ON (show image of desktop or what ever) OTA going to TV halved that 3 to 2 bars become 1 and 2 if I lucky and channels start scrambling alot, and depending on what is being shown on monitor it might out right give no signal, and I can easily restore singal to being bad if change what show on monitor or bring back 3 to 2 bars if I turn monitor off or let it to to standby mode.

I have already disconnect every cable on TV except the OTA cable leaving just that so it not those cable. the Power cable for monitor and DP to DVI cable the monitor is using no where near that OTA cable either.

Any idea on how to fix this? moving my monitor isnt exactly an option neither is moving the tv and moving the OTA to other side room even with long cable dont fix this issue.

I have one those Leaf MoHu antennas 11x3 ones, I had same issue with one gateway mohu antennas the older one too

Do you have any splitters or combiners in between the antenna and TV? That can cause issues, especially indoors.

I would get that antenna into the attic or outside if at all possible.

And we need your Rabbitears reception report to really be able to provide answers specific to your location-

I get I just need to short out the monitor from kill the signal to the tv cause the monitor being on and show image basically castrates signal

I just moved wires around moved power cord away data cord and what not, and some made this issue worse just have my monitor on and show image was enough to just kill signal, I went and moved monitors data cable DP to DVI cable and it came back even if was still spotty at best, now I think it DP to DVI cable I using considering moving seem maninpulate how bad the signal that cable is still no where near OTA cable or any cables going to the tv, the tv and monitor are on the same surge protector though

Far as i know they are all ground as surge protector is grounded this particular mode APC PV11V3 has wiring/fualt light that should go on if it not grounded and it not on protection light is green and on too . I not very knowledge about all that electrical grounding so i just go by what it tells me, my other surge protecter has grounded light on I could probably just plug to same outlet this one is to see if actual grounded

Monitor has 3 prog power cord the TV is 2 prog

Sounds like there may be some RF coming from your monitor (presumed to be a computer monitor?) being picked up by the TV's proximity to the monitor.
Move the TV or the computer at least 5 ft away.
If it is cabling to monitor it would show up while the computer is on and whether the monitor is off or on.

Sadly moving the monitor (Asus VS248) is not really an option I would have move my entire room which I not about to do. Computer is under desk said monitor is on, but turn the computer off does stop signal from droping so long as monitor is on, as I test that by connecting my ps5 to that and it happened there too

I do know that Moving the DP to DVI cable under desk can and does effect the signal, depending on where that cable is I might have spotty signal or no signal out all with the monitor on. but soon as it is off signal is fine.

The DP to DVI cable is shielded and the coxial cable is a shielded RG6 cable

I will see about moving the monitor 5+ feet way just to see if proximity to tv is issue. but that wont really solve my issue cause moving desk and there for computer and monitor isnt really option

Maybe wrap the monitor in aluminum foil? Just as a test to see if it's radiating RFI that's overwhelming the OTA tuner. Obviously not a viable long-term fix.
worth try I see what happen when I get hand on some aluminum foil

Can you move the Antenna away from the monitor ?
Antenna is 8 feet away from tv I tried put 10 feet way didnt make difference

If I being honest after NHL Stanley Cup games I will probably stop caring and disconnect the OTA anyway cause I dont watch anything on anyway just my mom does and she attenna on here tv that really not much better it just dont have singal halve issue I have but it would be nice if I could fix,

probably the easy fix would be to get Tablo put antenna in attic like dad thinking of doing run coaxial to tablo and let feed tvs that way

Well, it's grounded up to the Surge Protector anyways ... but if not 3rd prong, it's not grounded ... I don't recall if my TV's have a ground, guess I never thought about it ...
Now ya got me curious, I got to check.

Well, thats interesting, I thought all TV's were grounded ... guess not, maybe they figure if the voltage gets that far, its not going to save the TV ... :(

Something to try. Using an extension plug the TV into a completely different source of AC. Monitor may be feeding noise back into AC.

EchoStar has filed with FCC for license and launch of the EchoStar 25 satellite at the nominal 110W slot.

------"At the nominal 110° W.L. orbital location, EchoStar is licensed to operate over 29 of the available 32 DBS channels (specifically channels 1-27, 29,and 31).3 Currently, EchoStar provides service over these channels from the 110° W.L. cluster utilizing the EchoStar 10, EchoStar 11 (in inclined orbit), and EchoStar 23 satellites; and from the 119° W.L. cluster utilizing the EchoStar 14 and EchoStar 15 satellites. EchoStar anticipates that EchoStar 25 will be ready for launch as early as the first quarter of 2026. EchoStar anticipates that EchoStar 25, a spot-beam satellite, will take over delivery of certain programming services from EchoStar 10 and 14. After launch and in-orbit testing ("IOT"),4EchoStar 25 will proceed directly to 110.0° ± 0.05° W.L. Once EchoStar 25 is placed into operation, EchoStar 10 will initially remain at 110.2° W.L. serving as an in-orbit spare and may ultimately be relocated subject to all appropriate Commission authorizations. EchoStar 14 will remain at the nominal 119° W.L. orbital location and serve as an in-orbit spare once EchoStar 25 begins service." -----

Any chance you (or somebody else w/Chicago locals) could check & see where all the Chicago locals moved to, please...
That is a great question. I can't check at the moment but will check if no one else is in Chicago area can chime in on where they went.

Actually, I can't seem to add the locals back to my account to check right now - when I go to add it and I submit the changes, it shows that I have added 1802 local channels (the whole country) and nothing happens. Something must be wrong with their website. :)

I just happened to find out that I won White Sox tickets for tomorrow nights game June 10th. Yahoo! I just picked up my tickets around 8 P.M. local time and it is kind of late planning I know but I am leaving here in just a few and heading up to Peotone to stay the night tonight in a hotel and be there for tomorrow night as well. Its 9:21 P.M. Central Time now. I am hoping to beat the possible thunderstorms and fog early this morning up there and the weather there tomorrow as well. I oh so hope they play and no severe weather! Anyways, I just unhooked my Wally receiver and my DISH Playmaker and I am taking it with me. Peotone is in the Chicago Locals market and with me having a DISH Outdoors account I can change it when I get up there. I will have a check when I get there and I can post and let you know. I can put the antenna on top of the roof of the vehicle and run a 12 ft. coaxial cable running through the trunk into the vehicle. I have a DC to AC converter in the vehicle and can bring my Cloner Alliance ViewPRO to use as a the screen. I may even watch a little TV throughout the evening as well and maybe a little WGN as well. I miss WGN. I use to watch the Cubs, White Sox, and Bulls games on WGN and listen to the news and Tom Skilling a bunch. I hated it in December of 2014 when it became a standard cable network only. This will be only my 2nd time since they became a standard cable network and now defunct and rebranded as NewsNation that I actually get to see WGN again. The only other time was in 2016 up in Chicago as well and they were a standard cable network here then and not available locally. I now need to get going. I will let you know later.

Well I made it safely to Peotone, IL and got checked in. Sitting in the vehicle right now and everything is hooked up and ran and locals changed through the App.

I only have 2 words. "Very Interesting"

This is going to take awhile to post all of this and get all of this right so I am going to be looking up some info as I type.

Now done!

Wow! About an hour's worth!

So it appears they changed as well to the 110 Satellite and using 2 Spotbeams 12 & 26.

Got to head up to my room and get some sleep. I will be here until late afternoon tomorrow before I head up to the game and will be back here after the game tommorow night and head back home Thursday morning.

Take care everyone and have a good night and a good Wednesday and Thursday. Probably won't be back on until Thursday.

This is really interesting. Thanks for posting the Chicago locals - I still can't add them to my account for some reason.

But what I find even more interesting is that you are reporting that some of the Chicago locals are on 110, TP 12. However, right now some of the national sports channels for the out of market sports channels are on 110, TP 12 as well. MLB Network Alternate, for example, is currently on 110, TP 12. And to my knowledge, the same transponder cannot be both a national ConUS transponder as well as a local spotbeam. I wonder if having both satellites active at the same time is causing some coding issue or something like that - for my receiver, it is as if it is checking one satellite, times out, then checks the second satellite for the signal strength.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
