So I just got Dish networks from the DishPro guys off the forum. The installer came here and I noticed that upstairs (3rd) in my townhouse the RF controller was very flaky (the receiver is in the bottom floor, 1st). It would only work half the time, assumably from being so far from the receiver.

The installer said 'no no it is because the receiver is downloading and is slow'... I'm not sure why I let him leave with it in this state but he had another appointment to get to.

So anyway now that he's gone, of course it doesn't work at all until I leave my bedroom and use the controller from the top of the steps.

Any tips here? Worse come to worse, will I be able to get them to come out here and replace the receiver downstairs with a standard receiver and the one upstairs with a DVR? This is originally what I wanted but they said they didn't have the right equipment in the work order, so they gave me this dual-room DVR instead.

Any suggestions?

Try angling your antennae on the back of your 522 various ways & see if it makes a difference.

If it is simply an out of range problem,
You can extend the range of your antenna on your 522 see this thread:

http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=31945

You can build your own antenna extender:
see this thread:
http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=28474

Another option would be to dump your UHF remote and
swap it for an IR remote & get a pair of IR extenders that plug
into a wall outlet at both locations.
About $10 for a 522IR remote on ebay & about $30 for a pair of IR extenders.

You need to find a way to get the antenna closer to the upstairs location. The thread above is intresting, but installers do it another way.

We just run a line of coax into the antenna port on the back of the receiver. Then we put the antenna on the other end of that line. So if you can run a line of coax from the back of the receiver to the upstairs location (thru a chase for upstairs plumbing works well) then you get your antenna closer to the 2nd tv location. This will get you working.

If you can't do it get your installation company to come out and do it.

"another thing that i have done on many of jobs with dual-tuner boxes, is to combine the UHF antenna, and my TV2 signal on the same line to the other room, then in that room split them back apart...
so far it has worked every time
on one job i did... from the back of the receiver, the remote jack, and TV2 out jack into a splitter, then into a diplexer with the sat feeds, then down to the basement through the other diplexer, then out another 125 feet to the metal garage, where i used a splitter, one side to the TV, the other side with the little factory antenna on it.
total it went through about 200 feet of coax, two splitters, two diplexers, and two wall plates... and ended up in a metal building that before the remote didn't work at all unless you had the door open on the side facing the house....
now it works amazing, just as if it was in the same room, there is no delay at all"

( i copied that from a reply from one of the above mentioned threads)
and as far as dumping the UHF remotes, as far as i know, the 522 or 625 #2 side will not work with a IR remote.

i would say the best thing to try for you would be to run both the #2 video coax, and the remote jack coax into a splitter, then hook that to the wire going upstairs, then upstairs, have another splitter, one side going to the tv, and the other side with little UHF antenna on it.

Cool, this sounds good. When you say splitter are you talking about the simple cheese 3$ splitters (one coax to two coax) that you can buy at rat shack? Or are there specific frequencies I need to look for in the splitter?

thanks again for all the help, great suggestions sofar!

That's a lot of information to ingest. However, I don't have the Hopper Plus and my 54 remote is doing crazy things to the Hopper 3. Several times each evening when I press the skip forward button several times to advance through a commercial, it switches the receiver either onto live TV or into suspension. Other buttons will also cause this randomly, I haven't established any patterns I can describe. I use "recall" to go back to my recorded program in progress.

Needless to say, something in the newer Hopper 3 softwares has caused the remote functioning to ......................malfunction. Evidently, it applies to third party remotes as well as DISH's own remotes.

This is exactly the same issue I was having as I had the Hopper 3 and 54 remote without the Hopper Plus and the symptoms were virtually identical to yours.

We have had a corolary problem in this and the prior s/w. Using several different 40.0 remotes (yeah, we're old), when one pauses a live or recorded show it becomes a crap shoot whether it will step foreward the 30" as requested, jump to the end, or restart the episode. Tried the famous 60" reboot to no avail and have decided to live with it vs. a receiver swap risk.

I think there's a change to the "skip forward 30 seconds". With CBS that does not have auto-skip, if you stack up a bunch of 30 second forwards it seems to stop when the kangaroo signaling the end of the commercial break appears.

Also posted this in the 3rd party remote thread.

My Hopper 3 updated itself to H713 last week and the IR issue is worse now. On H711, I could be on an SD channel for several hours and the IR side of my H3 would still be responsive without my having to tap the View button on my Pronto Pro every 15 minutes. Now, if I stay even on an SD channel without tapping the View button at least once an hour, it becomes unresponsive to my Pronto Pro without tapping the View button at least 5-20 times, just like on the HD and 4K channels. So, H713 actually made the issue worse. :(

I've been having intermittent problems with Amazon Prime video programs loading using the H3 guide listing. I can get to the program I want to watch, but when I try to view it, it starts to load and then stalls. Eventually, a screen pops up saying "something went wrong, try again later". I've tried rebooting the hopper without success. Sometimes switching the HDMI input on my LG TV works, but not always. I don't have this problem on my phone or computer, so it is not a network or router issue.

I did a quick google search and found that this is a common problem associated with overloading or corruption of the data cache in the Amazon app and the solution is to clear the cache. Easy to do on a computer or phone, but I don't know how to do this on the H3. If anyone a solution or suggestion, I'd appreciate some help. Thanks.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Was raining yesterday so I went to Sams up in Dothan to stock up on some things. Haven't been there in quite a while. I was amazed at how large most of the TVs were. When I walked in they had a 100 in Vizio (I think it was Vizio) that was marked down to something like $1,200. The first rows of TVs were all in the 80 in + sizes. The next couple of rows had the "smaller" models....those 75 and under. I was amazed at how small the 75s looked when lined up with the larger screens.

Q-LED and Mini LED panels have improved the picture quality and the tv's are so thin and nearly without bezels now. I've thought about replacing the 75in 4k DV/HDR LED Sony in my living room with a newer 86in. That's as big as I can go without construction changes. I watch the 75in 4k DV/HDR Q-LED in my bedroom and the difference between the two is very noticeable. There's nothing wrong with the living room tv though and I don't now that I actually watch enough anymore to really justify it. I could move it out to the patio but the 65in Q-LED out there looks really good and I'd have to change the mount to accomdate a larger tv out there.

I'm at a limit for TV sizes at this time. My Father-in-Law crafted a custom entertainment center for our family room and we were restricted from going too big based on the side cabinets and central bridge fitting in the width of the room. It turns out to be where a 55" screen with bezels fits but no 65" bezel-less screen can fit. I think there was a brief period where 58" screens where a thing, but no more.

So, no huge screens for the Foxbat's…

And to think....I was SO proud of myself when I bought a 27 in TV in the late 80s. Everyone just had a 25 in so I was really in high cotton.

I've pretty much done most things in Ireland and I'm thinking about the other side of the Irish sea. I'm thinking about traveling to Wales this summer. My second choice would be Scotland. I don't want anything to do with London except maybe landing in Heathrow and then escaping quickly.

Any tips or experiences to share?
