Winegard Travler D* Satellite

Bought a 2015 Class A. It has a Winegard Travler Roof Top Satellite. The dish is a slimline SK-SWM3. My rcvrs are HR44 + mini + WVB. Problem. SK-SWM3 is not compatible and I don't intend going backwards to an HR24 rcvr. I do have a portable SWM5 satellite, so this dilemma is not critical. The Travler tunes to 101 99 103.

Question: Is it possible to replace the SWM3 LNB with an SWM5 LNB. The existing LNB has 3 RG6 cables out to the receiver(s). If so, then one cable would suffice, the ramaining 2 being disconnected.

When the satellite is stowed for travel the is enough room for the additional 2 LNB's to exist without being squished by the fold-down slimline. But the SK-SWM5 triple LNB looks to be a tight fit.

Seawolf, after going thru the video, just to make sure nothing is changed from normal set ups, you clearly Do need to use your Power Inserter.

Here is the easiest way, take the coax from the dish (port C), run coax from there to your PI then out of the PI into the recvr , make sure to use the input on recvr listed SWM, it's usually the 1st one.

No BBC's are required when using a SWM set up.
Also, if your only using 1 recvr, you can skip the splitter and go right from PI to recvr .... IF your doing more than 1 recvr, you'll want to make sure the out from the PI goes to the Power Bypass post, connect your other recvrs to the splitter.

Jimbo; you done it! I ran a cable from the C port, connected to my Power Inserter, etc., and voila, it worked. D* booted up, did a bunch of stuff and there was D* on the screen in my motor home. Conclusion - something between the Sat and the receiver had been buggered up!

I knew where the AC plug for the PI was, but not where the PI itself was. Wasn't hard to find the cover, since it (2' x1') is behind an overhead door in the cockpit. Every item that was shown in the Winegard video was in the same space behind the panel. Looked like an explosion in a small spaghetti factory! Wires everywhere, nothing really secured.

It was the PI (and the installer) that was the problem. The "To SWM and To IRD connectors where crossed. Made the switch, reconnected the installed Sat cable to the "C" port, disconnected my PI from the IRD and it's all good now!

I have confirmed that the PI used in the Winegard setup is all that's needed to feed the IRD.

I really appreciate y'all's input. The "Port C" suggestion did the trick!

I almost bought a RV with one on it, it was used so there was no info with it, after watching the video as well, that looked like what you needed.

Glad to see its working, they are VERY NICE !

Now you have to remember to plug the Power Inserter in whenever your using it, I suppose you could leave it plugged in if you want.

I'm gonna say the Interface box and the PI are placed inside the RV cabinets above the Drivers seat. just a guess, but the majority of the TVs are still up front.

The connecting stuff is in the far right corner, overhead in the cockpit. Interface Box, PI, Splitter and any number of items are crammed into a small space. The PI green light faced down and away. The splitter being there was useful, since I was wondering which configuration was used. Oh, and BTW, my blood pressure is back to normal!

Thank you all, especially TexasBrit, Jimbo, and Raoul. .......2nd time nursing me through my D* deficiency anemia!

The bad news is that all these installations are different, as far as where the equipment is placed. The good news is that the DirecTV system is the same as normal installations, all you have to do is find it ......

Am I the only one that hates what Dish did to their mobile app?

I thought I would come here and find lots of complaints about the update to the dish anywhere mobile app, but am not seeing any. It used to look just like the desktop webpage. Now you can no longer filter by sports channels or movie channels. Plus that they made it look like a big button telephone and you see fewer channels in the screen which requires more scrolling. Yes I realize you can look at sports then select which sport you want to look at, I just liked being able to see all sporting events in the guide with all other channels being filtered out. Am I alone in the wilderness on this?

Apple has finally released their Apple TV 4K with built-in Siri and a microphone so it can respond to your queries even if you don't have the remote. It also increases in price, to $299. I had been planning on updating my current Apple TV 4K streamers, but that's $600 for the two of them, and that's a pass at this point.

At $299, it had better come with 256 GB of Storage, Gigabit (or better) Ethernet, the latest HDMI tech and standards, and one year of free Apple One. But it probably won't…

Not a bit. IMO, Apple's are slow to boot up. Time is about the same with 1st gen and 3rd. Roku runs rings around them in that department. I only reason I stuck, is the Apple infrastructure, which has it's definite advantages. But $300 is a deal breaker. Later, Apple!

they all do that anyways.. ever notice your cell phone slows down when you come up for an upgrade.. :what. apple's been making money off of software and not hardware for a while

No. Makes me wonder if that is Apple or the carrier. I am on pre-paid, so I never get "an upgrade." I still have my old iPhone 11 Pro as a second line, and it runs iOS 27 just fine. My iPhone Air, which is still a current model, doesn't really seem that much faster in regular use. It is better in other ways, and worse in some ways than the 11 Pro (size), but performance really isn't a big differentiator, especially since I replaced the battery in the 11 Pro. If I had gotten enough storage when I originally bought the 11 Pro, it could still be my primary device with no issues.

Yeah, they boot up a bit slower than Roku, but the OS does a lot more, so it makes sense. How often are you booting them up that is a differentiator? Aside from OS updates, mine are on all the time. I will say the ATV4K is generally quicker than the Roku Ultras I have, when it comes to launching apps and responsiveness, not that the Roku is sluggish.

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.

Might be worth a watch when it comes out. Looks like typical big corp against the little guy movie BUT....there is a reason this plot type is so oft repeated, it draws audiences.

If you're going try to read / listen to the book (can't recommend the audio book enough) before this comes out, I'd avoid trailers.

Forgot to comment. I did watch when it first came out on MGM. I enjoyed it a lot. I think reading the book made it easier to watch. Several friends commented it was a little hard to follow.

I agree. That can go for pretty much any book vs movie. Back when I was single I would read any Stephen King or John Grisham book I could get my hands on. When you read a book you make up the scenes and characters in your mind.....the movie version always disappoints.
