It isn't solar outage time already is it? I left the Micro HD on while I ran an errand for 30 minutes. When I get back the screen is frozen on Grit.I change the channel and NONE work on 97W,all are black. So I turn the receiver off and back on.Still nothing anywhere on 97W or 99W either.I drop down to 91W and channels are ok there.I go back to 97W - Signal Quality is low and bouncing around on the channels there. So I turn it off and on again...and all is fine.

Electricity didn't flicker because the stove clock always resets for the briefest power interruption.Nothing was changed on the dish setup. I did have one brief freeze up maybe 30 minutes prior on Grit, but changing the channel resolved it.Receiver was on continuously approx 10 hrs before the

I hope this isn't a sign of pending problems with this receiver. :wtf
Or just one of those glitches that you have to live with occasionally?

It's been doing fine for 40 minutes now.

I'm NOT an expert, just another member of the site....but I do have long cable runs and multiple dishes which occasionally have issues, too.

There are many variables involving connections, loops in the cable, water intrusion at some point in the past, etc. Can you help us all help you with info on your setup? Motorized? Fixed with multiple dishes? Any diseqc switches? Junctions in the cable that look "correct" but may have corroded? (it doesn't take long).... Checked for voltage at the LNB on both horizontal and vertical when on the "missing" satellites? (be careful not to disconnect the LNB when the receiver is powered on) This info may be in a different thread, but having it here may help us help you! Is the post or mount perfectly straight? It could change with lots of rain, etc. We're all glad to help....but the more info the better! I wouldn't be quick to blame a very good receiver, especially if on 91W you have both horizontal and vertical channels showing up! That pretty much clears the receiver of being the culprit!

Whoa Nelly. Sorry I asked. It's working for now,so I'll leave it at that.
Thanks everyone for all the help.
FaT Air
The motor to lnb coax connections are subject to twisting because of the dish movement. I'd put a bet on it being a loose connector on the dish motor. Just happened to loosen when you moved to 97/99 and stay loose. Moving over to 91 tightened it enough to again work. But over time the symptoms will return, maybe even more so.
.I go back to 97W - Signal Quality is low and bouncing around on the channels there. So I turn it off and on again...and all is fine
may suggest there could be some corrosion also in said connectors. OR the motor twitched with power application.
Sorry about my first post. Meant to follow-up much sooner but things got in the way.

Why be sorry you asked? In this hobby, things DO need attention at times, and that's why the members here love to help!

Fat Air, not sure I understand that.If you mean a diseqc motor...I don't have one.I have an actuator.I can check the coax between the VBox and lnb ... but it is zipped tied really good and I doubt it has moved.I seems relevant (to me) to note that the dish was not moving at the time.Grit-tv is one of my strongest signals and it went black while viewing. It was as if 97W either went dark or the receiver could no longer recognize it.

After reading old posts here and elsewhere,I thought that glitches are to be expected with FTA equipment and maybe someone would say" 'Hey,thas nuttin' dude, just reboot it and don't worry". I almost had a coronary when I thought my system was dead.

Now on to other matters:
I have other reasons to suspect receiver problems.I'm not going into details before completing the installation. No point in asking the whole group to go on a wild goose chase before all the grounding is complete and maybe the actuator is replaced. Also a UPS to rule out 'dirty' electricity as a potential cause.Maybe not until after I install a larger dish without a mount problem. It could be something else causing the receiver to act up.I have purposely avoided blaming the receiver to date due to all the unknown 'variables'.I'm impressed with the Micro HD except for what's noted below.

Here's as brief a description as possible for the curious minded:

1) What appears to be memory errors.Receiver reaches a state where scanned transponders are no longer written to memory... or unusual measures needed to proceed. Multiple tries, reboots, and 2 resets before I got thru the Sats . Imagine working up the Sat list until 101W,for instance.Tune it east and west until it's dead on and then do a single Sat scan...Great...12 channels found! Go to the channel list to check out the cool finds...and there ain't a dang one there! It's not complicated to do a Sat scan on this box.If transponders are found....No operator action required.Just click the 'search end' button and the channels should be listed automatically. But occasionally they DO NOT.This quirk continues to date.

2) Random readings on the Satellite meter: I can be viewing a STRONG channel with no problems.Pull the Sat Meter up over the screen...and the reading may be Sig level 45, quality Zero. Or .Sig level 90%, quality Zero. Or it may be correct.
A comparable experience in Sat setup > Motor/Switch Setting and in TP List.Sometimes the Meter absolutely does not work unless I go in and out 2 or 3 times.(Maybe some kind of random static feedback or something.... but odd that opening and closing the window 'fixes' it)

All in all, many hours wasted and frustrated.(If it was a PC,I'd be running ram tests.Checking for HD failure.Replacing the CMOS battery, etc) I don't give up easy...but I have to walk away before getting mad enough to break out the big hammer.

I've been posting too much of my random thoughts and nonsense anyway.

PS: I tried to be brief...but that's another 'glitch' that I have. :nana2

I thought I would come here and find lots of complaints about the update to the dish anywhere mobile app, but am not seeing any. It used to look just like the desktop webpage. Now you can no longer filter by sports channels or movie channels. Plus that they made it look like a big button telephone and you see fewer channels in the screen which requires more scrolling. Yes I realize you can look at sports then select which sport you want to look at, I just liked being able to see all sporting events in the guide with all other channels being filtered out. Am I alone in the wilderness on this?

Yes a lot cleaner, glossier, and less functional. Someone trying to justify why they are making a big salary. "See look shiny"

Seems in some ways better. Nicer layout, as others said maybe cleaner. Moving ahead in the guide is better.

Apple has finally released their Apple TV 4K with built-in Siri and a microphone so it can respond to your queries even if you don't have the remote. It also increases in price, to $299. I had been planning on updating my current Apple TV 4K streamers, but that's $600 for the two of them, and that's a pass at this point.

At $299, it had better come with 256 GB of Storage, Gigabit (or better) Ethernet, the latest HDMI tech and standards, and one year of free Apple One. But it probably won't…

Meh. The 4Ks I have will do everything that these do that I need them to do.

Which that's most tech these days for anything released the last four to five years.

It's honestly a testament to how good the previous gen Apple TVs were and are.

Don't tell them that. They'll adopt planned obsolescence.

Not a bit. IMO, Apple's are slow to boot up. Time is about the same with 1st gen and 3rd. Roku runs rings around them in that department. I only reason I stuck, is the Apple infrastructure, which has it's definite advantages. But $300 is a deal breaker. Later, Apple!

they all do that anyways.. ever notice your cell phone slows down when you come up for an upgrade.. :what. apple's been making money off of software and not hardware for a while

Yeah, they boot up a bit slower than Roku, but the OS does a lot more, so it makes sense. How often are you booting them up that is a differentiator? Aside from OS updates, mine are on all the time. I will say the ATV4K is generally quicker than the Roku Ultras I have, when it comes to launching apps and responsiveness, not that the Roku is sluggish.

What software? For iPhones? I tried to buy some image s/w IN THE APPLE STORE! They had none, and could not offer ANY s/w for iPhones

I assume you mean services, like iCloud and Apple Music, and not actual software sales. Services have been growing quickly for Apple, but hardware still brings home the bacon. As for where Apple's revenue comes from, the iPhone is still king with 49.58% of revenue as of June 2026. Services comes in second with 28%. iPad, Mac, and Wearables/Home makes up the rest. So, that is 72% coming from hardware. Their profit margin is around 25%, FWIW.

I am skeptical the AppleTV 4k makes them much money on the hardware though, which I suspect is what you were getting at.

Several Dish offers showed up today in my account. Once you choose one the rest are removed. Offers were Showtime, Starz, AMC and others.

Just checked my account and it shows mgm+ at 8.00 per month, but that has red line drawn thru it and shows 0.00 per month. But it doesn't say how long this lasts,...... 1 month, 3 months, forever. I called customer service to get an answer, and they said nothing like that exists. Should I add the offer or not? Already paying them too much, but want to take advantage of something free.

Not for me, mines has no mention of how long aka the offer period and the Terms and conditions the $0.00 is good for. All I see is one can lose $5.00 if you decide to remove it before day 31 after you add it to the account.

You have a different offer that is free for a shorter timeframe which is different than the one that I and bnewt saw without defining the promotion period as I sent the question to DISH Care via Facebook Messenger and this is the response I got back 20 minutes ago.

No. Bring in someone new.🤔 Tony is not serious enough for me. Parker is too close to the team and Tim is too young to take over IMO.

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...
Tony said: I am the New Tony, Tim .... (something to that effect)

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.

Might be worth a watch when it comes out. Looks like typical big corp against the little guy movie BUT....there is a reason this plot type is so oft repeated, it draws audiences.
