And we grew our overall sub base with the strongest third quarter net additions in 9 years."

I wonder how many of those 11,000 new Tivo subs are OTA or OTA-only?

Wow 418,000 added. Obviously we see where some of the Decline Dish, Directv and even Cable subscribers are going.

There are folks who buy Tivos to use on cable (because most cable boxes suck).

Well, YEAH. Since they've been blowing out Roamio's at a discount starting at the end of MAY, I'd say that would easily account for a 44% growth this year. The problem is going to be next year.... Now that they upped the price of lifetime to $599, and no more discounts...

most of the adds were MSO models and modest retail growth. However, looking at the real numbers and especially reading Ira Bahrs' (former Dish Marketing, now TiVo's CMO), it is clear, the Bolt is TiVo's Hail Mary pass that if it does not do well, the inferences is that TiVo will most likely leave the retail side of its business. Even Ira cites how very puny its subscriber count is and makes the remark "considering the millions and tens of millions of DVR's out there, we [TiVo] have a lot ground to catch up." He future stated that the future of TiVo depends upon, not its current subscribers, but getting lots and lots of NEW subscribers, which brings us to the next paragraph.

Further, the Bolt's sassy box design is (a bent box design) not at all intended to appeal to TiVo's current subs (who mostly hate it), but to appeal to the new/younger generation of NEW subscribers who are willing to pay the new outrageous pricing scheme AFTER you buy one of the boxes for hundreds of dollars: first year of service FREE, then monthly after that, or the All-in (formerly Lifetime) priced at the new higher $599 and no longer offering a discount after the first box. Go to the TiVo website and price out how TiVo seems to have engineered the Bolt's failure to save the retail side of TiVo's business.

Interestingly, ol' Tom Rogers has now resigned as CEO and will be non-executive chairman of the board while another board member takes over day to day (usually in the interest of stock holders) until a new CEO is found. The timing on this is strange as, to me, it seems the dance a company makes before its board and other officers cash out their stock because everything has to be in place for the limited window they will have to sell.

Sorry, but even as a TiVo owner, I see the Bolt failing miserably, with TiVo having to leave the retail business within a year. I just hope that considering TiVo's adequate MSO business side and it foreign business, I hope TiVo would kindly keep our retail DVR's still functioning as DVR's at the very least. We shall have to see.

At least 64 dead in Spanish passenger train collision

Terrible tragedy. You would think that they would have safe guards in place that would prevent something like this from happening. I guess if you are going to ride in a passenger train it might be best to get a car near the rear.

It's probably been 2 decades since I've listened to an AM radio station. Very rarely listen to FM any more.

That goes for a lot of people. I've been advertising on radio for more than a decade now and am very familiar with this subject. While it is still a valuable tool, it has far less impact than it did just a few years ago. The best reaction I get is from a local Country music station....they play a mix of older and newer music and have a very big footprint.

No, just regular FM stations. One is the country station I mentioned and the other is a Talk Radio station which used to get fantastic results but honestly, since the death of Rush Limbaugh, talk radio just doesn't do as well. There were two guys who had an early morning show which was hugely popular here in the southeast but one of them retired a couple years ago and the show just doesn't garner the same numbers as it used to.

I can't recall having encountered a local ad on Sirius, and I don't imagine it is any different on XM.

Both, and they just made it official with a multiyear deal that also includes TV Everywhere authentication for the DAZN app, and commercial distribution.

DIRECTV, the premier provider of digital television entertainment in the United States, and DAZN, the world's leading sports entertainment platform, today announced a new multi-year distribution agreement for local telecasts of Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, and San Antonio Spurs games for DIRECTV streaming, satellite, and U-verse customers in each team's respective NBA-designated home territories.

These DAZN telecasts will be available to DIRECTV customers who subscribe to the Choice or higher packages and to U-verse TV customers who subscribe to the U200 or higher package. Each of DAZN's team services provides live pregame, postgame, and in-game coverage for the respective team.

In the coming weeks, customers who receive access to these teams via DIRECTV will also be able to login to the DAZN platform at no additional cost using their DIRECTV login credentials.

This agreement also provides distribution rights to each of the five NBA teams to all of DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS' thousands of sports bars, restaurants, fitness clubs, and other commercial venues located within each team's respective region.

All DMA's now Western Arc

I know HipKat said that they were working on conversions but we got the official news yesterday right from Dish that starting next month all DMA's will be on the western arc, and all customers will be assigned to that. That's gonna mean a lot of customers around here aren't gonna get Dish unless there are exceptions. Too many mountains and trees.

Advertisers on SD channels are probably Far and Few, very hard to find, they have very few viewers to watch them.

I watch mostly SD channels (H&I, Start and ION, etc.). There are plenty of advertisers, this time of the year it is mostly Medicare Advantage plans, auto extended warranties and the occasional walk-in-tub. They know who is watching.

Dish should use both satellite and internet like they do now for all channels. Use either or or both.... like now but subscribers could choose something like internet only, or sat only, or both.
