I am considering getting a Pansat 3500s for the AC3 but I will need a new audio system or at least a new audio receiver. I have a set of 5 cheap KLH speakers that do the job ok so I might just go the receiver only route. But all-in-ones are attractive because they would save space. My questions:

Can anyone recommend either a receiver only or one box solution for AC3 with the Pansat? I am looking at something under $200.

To Iceberg:

You mentioned a cheap system at Walmart. What was the brand/model of that?

Thanks

I have an Audigy which appears to have the needed jacks but I think by time I buy the necessary (long) cables and speakers it wouldn't be worth it. I think my best bet is to go with the Pansat 3500 and a new audio receiver (overdue to upgrade anyway) to use with my existing setup. I could sell the Coolsat on Ebay to recoup part of the money. Thanks for the idea though.

Yes, those are the units Creative labs is selling directly on ebay and they will indeed decode AC3. I'm using one right now with my Pansat 2500A and it works. I didn't buy mine directly from creative labs however. I bought it from another seller who bought it refurbished from creative labs on ebay and then after using it about a year sold it again on ebay. I believe he used it for some other purpose like digital recording on his PC and later moved on to a higher end product. Anyway, the extigy will work. You'll need analog speakers to connect to the outputs of the Extigy. It uses the little 3.5mm stereo jacks like computer speakers and headphones use, but you could probably use an adapter cable if you needed different jacks. You probably need to use amplified speakers as I don't know whether the device could really effectively drive unamplified speakers directly.

As for the Durabrand units at Walmart, be careful. while it is true that at one time there may have been one durabrand unit that Walmart carried that had a spdif input and would decode AC3, I believe all of the cheap ones they carry now do NOT and only have analog inputs. In fact, before I bought the Extigy this is exactly what I bought only to be dissapointed by the fact it wouldn't do what I wanted and had no spdif in. After that I bought the Extigy after I saw on another forum a post saying the Extigy would do this. Anyway, now I have the Extigy decoding the AC3 from the Spdif out on my pansat and feeding analog out to the durabrand speakers.

Sherwood has a nice little audio reciever, the RD-6105, that has some pretty good reviews and sells for under $140.00. here are the specs http://www.sherwoodusa.com/prod_rd6105.html . I am thinking of picking one of these up myself.

That looks like just what I need!

Well, whatevers best for you may depend on your particular situation. Perhaps you can find a reciever that will better fit your needs, but the point with the Extigy is that it will function as a stand alone unit not attached to a computer. In other words the Extigy can be used just like a reciever without any PC attached to it. Of course the Audigy, being a PCI card, wouldn't be able to function in a stand alone configuration like this.

I'm sorry, I didn't understand that you were saying it would work as a stand-alone. That could be a good solution in some cases then. My problem is my receiver is outdated anyway and if I am going to spend $50 I may as well spend another $100 and upgrade. But I am going to think it over before I do anything. Thanks for your help. :)

I'm getting fabulous picture on Ch. 148 4k, but zero audio with H713. This is with a recorded show (Notre Dame game). Anyone else have this? Audio is fine on every other channel.

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.

it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Stargate SG-1 cancelled, Atlantis renewed

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

I have gotten back into watching SG-1 and I have recorded most of the episodes to binge watch. What episodes are about the Antarctic or was this a movie? Also where could I watch the SG-1 movies?

Well, there are a couple involving the Antarctic. "Solitudes", S1 E17 (one of my favorites), Then, "Lost City', S7 E21 and E22. Then, in the SGA pilot, "Rising", S1 E1 and E2, it starts out in the Antarctic for about the first 20 minutes or so.

Which one has O'Neil being Ancients? I am at the end of Season 8 now.

If I understand your question, O'Neill had the Ancient's knowledge in the "Lost City" two-part episode. That was when Anubis attacked Earth and there was a big battle over Antarctica.
