I am starting to shop around for a 4K HDR TV. Would like to get some opinions on LG versus Samsung TVs. Which brand do you think is the best? Here are two TVs I have been eyeing.

http://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-60UH7700-4k-uhd-tv
http://www.samsung.com/us/televisio...ies-smart-tv-60-class-60-diag-un60js7000fxza/

Wonder why such a difference in price! The LG supports both HDR formats, HDR10 and Dolby Vision. I am not sure if the Samsung does or not. Thinks for any inputs.

Garsh-dang it! With my son off to college, the Sammy 55" in the family room is mine! So, I'm playing around with the new Hooper 3 firmware that downloaded earlier in the week and I notice a line going through some of the Hopper's GUI. Long story short, this line is on all inputs, and the Sammy has a self-diagnostics section of the TV's menu which proves the problem is with the Sammy, not the Hopper. So this theoretical "What Should I Buy" moves from wishful thinking to "Dang it, I wanted to wait for OLEDs to drop further in Price".

The best I can tell, this line is 1/8 of the screen from the bottom, and seems to repeat the row of pixels 4-8 pixels above it. Vertical patterns are not a problem, but this is right about the sweet spot for lower-thirds and it smears part of the text. And it's one of those things that once I have seen it, I can't un-see it.

Research time!

I was looking at the latest batch of 60" UHD TVs from LG and Samsung, but both of these are a fraction over 53" in width (plus the manufactures want a 4" or so of free air around their sets) so I'm going to need to budget for a router in addition to the TV. I like that the Samsung has an outboard switcher for the HDMI inputs (I can live without the analog inputs) as that reduces the cables being run to the mounted TV to Power, Network, and custom I/O cable. That's a lot easier to manage than running four HDMIs plus Coax to the TV (it's mounted on a set of drawer glides for easy access).

Like I said, and extra inch rabbit on either side of my opening, maybe two or three inches deep...

When you say "router" are you talking the networking tool or the woodworking tool?

The new 900 series Samsung is looking good to me if I had to replace my TV today as it has some manner of One Connect box versus the 9000. Unfortunately for you, they only make the 900 series models in the 65" and 75" denominations. Looking at the other Samsung SUHD TVs, most of them skip from 55" to 65".

I'm committed to not letting my furniture drive what TV I purchase. That said, I wish the manufacturers didn't seem to like the feet at opposite ends so much.

Woodworking tool. The lip around the sides of my entertainment center are about 4" deep, so a 2" deep by 1" wide rabbit down each side would be possible, It would make a mess, though, removing the much wood.

I also saw a 58" Vizio that just might squeeze in to the 52" width. But something tells me that 55" is going to be my practical limit on screen size. 57" or 56" would be possible, too, but as you observed, it's pretty much x5" diagonal screens once you're past the 40s.

I never worry about the the side clearance or my TVs. I have had three of them now that didn't have the manufactures recommended side clearance. To me, as long as the front and back of the TV is wide open I don't worry about the side clearance.

But.....if you like Tulsa King....looks like you would probably like this as well. I don't mind spin-offs as long as they don't involve a sassy niece who moves from the big city

I thought I would come here and find lots of complaints about the update to the dish anywhere mobile app, but am not seeing any. It used to look just like the desktop webpage. Now you can no longer filter by sports channels or movie channels. Plus that they made it look like a big button telephone and you see fewer channels in the screen which requires more scrolling. Yes I realize you can look at sports then select which sport you want to look at, I just liked being able to see all sporting events in the guide with all other channels being filtered out. Am I alone in the wilderness on this?

I'm not a big fan of the new layout, especially on my Apple TV. It used to look like the old Guide layout on the Hopper 3, but they changed parts of that, too.

You don't like Tony, or Tony as the Director (he's only been there for 30 seconds now) or you don't like NCIS ?

No. Bring in someone new.🤔 Tony is not serious enough for me. Parker is too close to the team and Tim is too young to take over IMO.

I don't think Tim and Tony are that far apart in Age ...

Remember what Tony said to Tim when they first got back together ...
Tony said: I am the New Tony, Tim .... (something to that effect)

Tony has changed, he's been running his Security Business ... I'm sure he has grown up.

Give it time ... your judging the New Tony from the old Tony.

It sounds like Tim won't be around the Team much longer either.

Might be worth a watch when it comes out. Looks like typical big corp against the little guy movie BUT....there is a reason this plot type is so oft repeated, it draws audiences.

If you're going try to read / listen to the book (can't recommend the audio book enough) before this comes out, I'd avoid trailers.

Trailer below, spoiling it to make sure you read the above bold message first. The book / audio book are fantastic. Go into this blind if you can IMO!

Kind of disappointed at how much they show. A lot still to see, but man, some good reveals in the book that are just served up here.

I've seen it twice. Can't recommend the audio book enough, Ray Porter's performance is amazing and there's so much more in the book than the movie.

Forgot to comment. I did watch when it first came out on MGM. I enjoyed it a lot. I think reading the book made it easier to watch. Several friends commented it was a little hard to follow.

I agree. That can go for pretty much any book vs movie. Back when I was single I would read any Stephen King or John Grisham book I could get my hands on. When you read a book you make up the scenes and characters in your mind.....the movie version always disappoints.

A big win for the Patriots, and they are now 3-2.

Browns lose a close one with... The Jets. That is a classic Browns loss (granted, any loss is a classic one it seems). 49'ers, Vikings, and Chiefs remain undefeated. The AFC north have a three way tie at 3-2 for second place.

After having experienced Gus Ferguson trying to call soccer games, I'm uncertain why NFL football analysts get hate. Even the "worst" of them are pretty good.

I had quit watching this show years ago because I ended up more annoyed than entertained. Well......I'm STILL more annoyed than entertained. I DO find it interesting to see how things work behind the scenes at many businesses. What annoys me is how utterly out of touch CEOs are with the companies they run. At the end of almost every episode the head of the company is amazed at how hard the employees have to work and many times have to work around impossible guidelines set forth from headquarters.

I found this one interesting because the new CEO had big plans for this company, Muscle Maker Grill, and it looked like the stores were all pretty busy. Recent history hasn't been good to this company however. I bet the covid lockdowns were the real killer.
