What can we expect from Dish at CES?

I've been interested in upgrading my hopper w/sling to a hopper 3 ever since it was introduced. But I thought I would take my time and let Dish get all the bugs worked out. Lately I've been considering pulling the trigger and proceeding with the upgrade. But with CES around the corner, I'm wondering if I should wait and make sure nothing better is coming. Now I don't really expect an all new box or anything since the H3 is still so new. But is there any chance we could get a H3 series 2? Maybe with some hardware tweaks or upgrades? Any rumors out there?

Hopper 3 could be the last DVR that DISH produces, as most of the content will be delivered by on demand and streaming platforms, and satellite/cable TV might be obsolete in 2 or 3 years. Hopper is quite capable of lasting that long and is already equipped to handle on demand content. Since they have added Youtube, Vevo etc, they already support live streams and could add more apps in the future. DISH already admitted that streaming would be bigger soon. It is unfortunate that not all of the US has good broadband speeds enough to support this transition, otherwise, this transition would have already accelerated.

Except that huge sections of the country with millions of people do not have any expectation of fast unlimited internet anytime soon, much less 2 or 3 years. I can just imagine how fast our internet would need to be to support the 5 people here watching different HD or 4K streams at the same time. That kind of internet is decades and a lot of money away if it ever arrives out here in the country.

No matter what the city people think satellite is going to be around for a long time.

You sound like someone back in the 1800's who had no electricity or Telco service..broadband will be subsidized and available to everyone

When I see the term "subsidize" I shudder. Because what that means is I get to pay for my stuff and someone else's stuff.
The way I see it, I am being punished for choosing a particular location in which to reside.
And broadband has many meanings.
in rural areas high speed is 3X1......Where I live that is so slow, Time Warner doesn't offer such a service.

elon is a busy fellow. launching freight to ISS, while preparing for launching humans to ISS, preparing for sending the first human capable lander to mars. there are reports it will make a round trip, with samples of mars. this is all in prep for a human trip in his planned 10 yearss.

then we have tube travel a 800 mph bus like service, all across the country......

building it will cost a fortune, a great infrastructure project.....

the internet plan, wellelon must be working too much....how many great ideas can he run at one time.

currently elon is building a test track for tube travel

Old idea. In 1973 a movie named Genesis II was released. In it was an elaborate travel system called a sub shuttle. A bus like car using magnetic levitation for propulsion that reached speeds of hundreds of miles per hour.

Since it was already "paid" for, I spent the two hours of my time watching the John Cena action movie on Apple TV, "Matchbox The Movie" even though the reviews were brutal. It was better than I expected, so I didn't feel like I had wasted an afternoon watching it. But it felt like another "Reacher"/"Neghley"/"Mission: Impossible"/"Fast & Furious" crash and blow stuff up with lots of automatic gunfire mixed in movie featuring covert CIA operatives.

I don't think we'll get a follow-up movie from this. I expect Mattel will have other toy lines to exploit.

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

West Palm Beach is getting it on WTCN-CD/43 MNT. Still nothing for Fort Myers

Also, the Thunder's deal for KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa will be via a special cable and DIRECTV only feed of those stations. OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games.

It's only available for streaming customers, they still haven't added that batch of CW stations to satellite.

Even if it was, satellite customers still can't stream their CW affiliates via the app, just the Big 4, select PBS stations and some independents (mainly the ones that have full season NHL/NBA rights)

Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson had an argument about who was responsible for the dynasty building of the early 90's Cowboys.

The rest of us figured it out in about 3 years, Jerry has had over 30 years but still can't admit it. It's all he lives for, to show everyone he can put together a winner. I don't think he can. His kids only know what he taught them.

On the West Coast, a 40-cent differential is common. It used to be 30 cents before the prices rose above $3.

A "full dollar more" sounds like it may be boat gas (non-alcoholic), which is a whole different discussion.

Both non-ethanol and prem run about the same....buck more. When we were up in TN it was a buck more up there as well.
