Just got this Sierra 303B on Ebay, it's a frequency selective level meter formerly used by the New England Power company (as per the ID tag). These units can be re-purposed as LW/MW/SW receivers. Am putting this one through it's paces. Thirty pounds (a little less now that I removed the 12 "D" ancient NiCads) and boatanchor-sized. But it's a beauty with plenty of knobs, switches, pushbuttons, big meter, LED's.

Range is from ~ 9 kHz - 3.3 mHz. WWV on 2.5 megs heard, W1AW code practice on 160m heard. CHU Canada on 3.332 heard too, but granted these are strong stations. How it'll do on weak NDB's is yet to be determined.
Some of these units cover from LF up to 30 megs.
Anyone out there ever used one of these on the job back in the old days? Would be interested in knowing what it's original intended purpose was.

Thanks for sharing! I myself enjoy restoring old boat anchor equipment back to working order.
Currently working on restoring a Heathkit Laboratory Generator. I have restored lots of older stuff, but for some reason I do not remember restoring a Heathkit.
I have a few pieces of Heath Kit gear I have to restore, someday.
This one looked the most intact. I think I have all the tubes it needs. Just need a couple more large electrolytic's to replace the old paper ones.
Best I can tell from research is, this was a company made unit and it does look very tidy and well done on the soldering and wiring.
They sold one's they labeled RF Signal Generators, they sold as kits and the Laboratory Generators were commercial units.
Same thing, but the commercial ones have a little more output and more attenuation options to choose a larger range, for testing.
This model covers 90kc to 30Mc. Almost has to be used with a frequency counter for proper alignment uses, but I am mainly just restoring it for the fun of it.

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.
I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.
Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

So, this means that those of us with Commercial Free subs, won't be Commercial Free, unless we wait till after the show is over ?
Which would make same day, not that big of a deal.
Paramount+ has always had the CBS shows on the CBS local channel and yes with commercials. What they are doing now is releasing the OnDemand versions of the show which I believe they don't release until after the shows air on the west coast. And they will be commercial free if you subscribe to the ad free version of Paramount+.So, this means that those of us with Commercial Free subs, won't be Commercial Free, unless we wait till after the show is over ?

To each there own but I've found that Windows can't do much more than Linux can. Can't have everything.
For niche use cases, yes I agree. Kali for ethical hacking and security testing, and running a Cacti server for network monitoring are the two things I have experience in. Plus thousands and thousands of other things, but for every day use I just can't see it. The owner of the GMRS repeater that I pay to access is changing the Tx DPL tones tomorrow, while Chirp is available on Linux, the software to program my MXT500 is not.To each there own but I've found that Windows can't do much more than Linux can. Can't have everything.
I run Fedora and Ubuntu in VMWare, honestly I don't care much for the UI of either of them and I don't feel like spending days/weeks to customize the UI to make it look Windows-like when I could just use Windows. The cartoonish dock at the bottom of the screen reminds me of Apple products.
For some reason, the satelliteguys.us site is loading a lot slower than usual on both Chrome on my Asus laptop and Safari on my iPhone.
I'm also seeing longer appearances of the blue bar at the top and the "3 blue bars" loading symbol.
Is anyone else also having the same problem? Thanks in advance.
