I ordered my LNB from Pete at PSB satellite. The order was relayed to his supplier and was shipped the same day. It was ordered this past Monday and I recieved it this past Weds.

The product arrived in a bubble mailer and was adequetly packed. I would have wished for the spec sheet to be included with the LNB but only the LNB and a plastic F-Connector cover was included in the box. The LO freq was printed on the side of the box for anyone who didn't know what the setting is.

On the negative side it's construction is rather cheap plastic which reflects it's chinese or tiwanese heritage. But what do you expect for $27? Also the LNB was a little smaller around the throat and I had to add a small piece of foam rubber around the holder to hold the LNB securely.

Everything else is all plus. There are little tickmarks on the top of the LNB to assist with adjusting the skew angle for fixed satellite setups. Once the LNB was secure I went inside to test it.

My setup on the KU side is a 100cm dish with my original .6db lnb with a circular lnb tiewrapped next to it for the DBS satellites. I am using a SG-2100 dish mover and a fortec 786V3 digital reciever, a Elecom CR-7007 analog reciever and a SS2 PCI card for the computer.

Yesterday I took the time and went through 11 different satellites and checked the signal strenght on a couple of transponders on each satellite for a base line. When the LNB arrived today I repeated the same test to see what kind of an overall average I was to get.

On one transponder there was a 20 point decrease in quality but I attributed that to the uplinker running a smaller signal budget and so I discarded that anomoly.

The results of my unscienctific test....Ta Da.....

With my original .6db lnb that was the best you could get about 3 years ago I ran an average signal strength of 46.8 on the scale of 1 to 100. With the extreme LNB I ran an average signal strenght of 54.7 on a scale of 1 to 100. That is an increase of 7.9%. Although it doesn't seem like much it has allowed me already to pull in some signals that were unviewable with the old LNB. In addition it should reduce rainfade and help with system stability.

I did notice however, for some reason with my PCI card that this lnb is taking longer to lock on lower symbol rate transponders although it doesn't seem to slow down the desktop reciver at all.

Recommendations: If you have a newer lnb say .4 or so I wouldn't bother as the improvement would be marginal but for the older lnb's of .5 or .6 I would definately get the LNB. It's less than $30 and does make a difference in strength. Of course if you have tree's in the way it's not going to help as it still needs signal to work with.

I will have to watch over time as durability might be an issue. As I stated the outward construction looks cheap but this thing does perform!! At some point I might try the little more expensive Invacom but for now I'm pretty impressed with the improvement for not too much money!! :D

On my dual output Primestar lnbf's, I run the 2 cables from the lnbf's to a splitter for each. One cable then goes to the digital A/B/C switches and the other goes to the analog A/B/C Switches. I can watch analog or digital on any combination I want. I can have G10 digital on one TV, AMC 1 on another and G11 on a 3rd and then have AMC 3 and T6 analog's on 2 other TV's. Everything going through switches.

On the one dish with only one output (flipped to horizontal for AMC 3 and then flipped to IA 8 for digital), the cables are split for analog and digital like the other dishes. When on horizontal, I can watch whatever. I can have PBS digital on one receiver and AMC 9 on analog on another one still routed through the switches. When the lnb is turned to vertical for IA8 digital, I can't watch anything else on analog on the switch the analog cable is coming into unless it's IA 8 analog. The juice has to be on the A/B/C switch in analog to watch the vertical digital. Even if I took the cable out of the switch, it must be live somewhere into a receiver for digital to work. Make sense?

I'm wondering if these lnbf's have this problem? If I hook up the one cable to splitters, do I have to turn the lnbf for whatever polarity?
Can I watch on whatever polarity w/o it effecting the splitter and the other "system" whether it's analog or digital?

This is a standard KU LNBF (Single output), its voltage controlled and you are stuck on one polarity until the voltage changes.

You would get better signal quality on those weaker TP.s (0.3 dB) but would not be as flexible as your current set up, very impressive!

How the heck do you remember all that Mike?
I forget sometimes how mine is set up :)

I guess it doesn't make sense to get them for what I want. Thanks for your honest response.

Tony - I tinker with it almost everyday. Constantly changing to see what works best where. That includes the wires inside and the dishes outside.

Mike...I'd LOVE to see pictures of all the cabling/switches :)

I thought I would come here and find lots of complaints about the update to the dish anywhere mobile app, but am not seeing any. It used to look just like the desktop webpage. Now you can no longer filter by sports channels or movie channels. Plus that they made it look like a big button telephone and you see fewer channels in the screen which requires more scrolling. Yes I realize you can look at sports then select which sport you want to look at, I just liked being able to see all sporting events in the guide with all other channels being filtered out. Am I alone in the wilderness on this?

I like the new look, it's a lot cleaner. I'm using it on one of those Onn streaming devices when I travel.

Yes a lot cleaner, glossier, and less functional. Someone trying to justify why they are making a big salary. "See look shiny"

Seems in some ways better. Nicer layout, as others said maybe cleaner. Moving ahead in the guide is better.

I think most are using it on a firestick or other device as an extra receiver, rather than their phone. Just a guess based on how I use it. 99% thru my firestick, 1% phone.

Stargate SG-1 cancelled, Atlantis renewed

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

I have gotten back into watching SG-1 and I have recorded most of the episodes to binge watch. What episodes are about the Antarctic or was this a movie? Also where could I watch the SG-1 movies?

Well, there are a couple involving the Antarctic. "Solitudes", S1 E17 (one of my favorites), Then, "Lost City', S7 E21 and E22. Then, in the SGA pilot, "Rising", S1 E1 and E2, it starts out in the Antarctic for about the first 20 minutes or so.

Which one has O'Neil being Ancients? I am at the end of Season 8 now.

If I understand your question, O'Neill had the Ancient's knowledge in the "Lost City" two-part episode. That was when Anubis attacked Earth and there was a big battle over Antarctica.

Those are the episodes I am looking for. They are referred to a lot in the episodes I just recently watched.

Has anyone converted one to FTA? A Frankenstein of sorts...

would probably also work well for NHK on 101W and possibly for PBS on 99W. I used one for a while on 30W. Just keep in mind that because it's undersized for those satellites, it might work fine in clear weather but won't have much margin to account for signal degradation during rain/snow

If you can find one, the Shaw / Star Choice 75e ellipticals are great for use on 97, 99, and 101W. They are really just rebranded ChannelMaster 75 cm reflectors and use linear LNBFs by default out of the box.

Everyone else's mileage may vary.

I have read that some have converted this type dish but after giving it a good look, it's the lnb conversion that is the bottleneck. Does anyone have a picture of their attempt to configure the lnb? I watched a video on youtube from the save it for parts guy and he used duct tape! Guess it worked but I'm thinking something a bit more permanent!
Thanks to all for your interest and replies...

Many of us have used a universal LNBF mount (or get creative with L brackets and plumbers tape - perforated metal strapping). Use a few inches of aluminum tube (or a piece of 1x2" lumber) to extend the support arm (replacing the plastic mount used by DirecTV and Dish) to place the LNBF throat opening at the correct distance from the reflector, the correct height and at the correct angle. Nothing magical... simply place the new linear LNBF in the center at the same distance, height and angle as the current combo.

To add: 101W Ku seems to be (one of if not the) strongest for me, and if I only had Ku I definitely want 101W for the music mux, it's robust FEC and strong signal help a lot. I've thought about using a used Dish/DirectTV dish at my Dads to supplement his OTA (mainly for my benefit when I visit :) )

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

It's a known issue.
For a temporary fix, go into the menu, Audio, and turn Dolby Audio "OFF". You will have PCM stereo audio.

I was able to give the tech ops team some data logs so they could diagnose the problem, and they rolled me back to H708 temporarily. It fixed that issue.

They let me know that they understand what caused the issue, and it will be fixed within a few weeks in a new update.

I guess they will be busy when lots of people start asking for rollbacks to H708 now that you mention that downgrades of software does exist because it will likely fix the OTA Single Tuner and the IR Remote problems in H710-H713.
