This Winter when we had storms on the Oregon Coast I moved my dish over to the East. Well, apparently the dish is too heavy for the ASC1 as when I went to move the Dish back, the weight of the Dish is too heavy, so I kept getting error messages every few clicks. I had a time to get it back to the center of the arc. The old Supra and USS Maspro I had no trouble moving the dish from one end of the arc for 35 years. Is there some way to solve this? My dish is fairly heavy 8.5 foot solid fiberglass, but I feel the unit should pull the dish back.
Thanks.

Thank you both for the great advice. A good project for this Summer. I also want double check the continuity of the wiring with an ohm meter. 35 years is a long time even though it is very heavy Ribbon Cable. Very tough. But still the age. So it looks like an ASC1 issue is probably ruled out. It is odd that the old Supra moved the Dish fine, but hooking up the the ASC1, there may be some issue in the wiring. Sensor wiring is one place I need to check too. The motor wires are probably okay as they move the dish. I think I will run wires out the door to the actuator, Sensor and motor wires. If that fixes things, I know the the wiring is the issue, if not, I'll go after the motor and the actuator itself. As I mentioned I do have a spare motor, so at least I have that to start with. I'll keep you all posted.
Titanium
I would test by only running a temporary 2 + shield between the sensor s1/s2 and ASC1. Keep the motor and servo on the current ribbon wire. No need to run temporary motor and skew distribution wires.

Good luck with your testing!
B
Could it be that various elements (corrosion of the mount, old "solidified" grease in the actuator, weight of the dish) combine and result in the dish moving up from the East very slowly, so the pulses are not as frequent and the ASC-1 "loses patience" and thinks there are no pulses coming and interprets it as a limit reached situation? And that maybe the Supra is more patient then the ASC-1 with slow pulses?
mwdxer1
Thanks again. Yes, I was wondering if the ASC1 is more picky. Even if I had a new arm & motor, the weight of that NQS dish is pretty heavy. Has a solid iron frame. Only 8.5 foot, but I always have bought Thompson Saginaw actuators that would move a 12 foot dish. It is one heavy frame. It has survived the winds of 135 MPH, a tree falling across it. A mesh dish would have been destroyed several times over. No bearings, just a bolt through the pivot points. There is some slop in the dish frame always had some. But in 85 is was a analog C Band dish and in those days it did not matter. I am amazed I got it to work well on KU, but that was years ago. I mainly use it for the TV diginets now. I run it from AnkF1 to G19. The only time I move it out of the way to a low area is in the high winds so the winds do not hit the dish straight on. The wind has moved 1500 pounds on cement in the ground (Pole Mount). I should had done a HtoH Tripod mount.
arlo
If it's the "oomph" the actuator can give the dish to move it. It very well could be friction in the actuator arm.
Or the dish pivots. Lots of factors. Could be your reed/sensor isn't providing pulses fast enough to satisfy the ASC-1.
I have a heavy 12' 'glass dish. I put pillow block bearings in place of the original bolt and bushing setup.
Friction there solved. And no slop.
It originally had a 24" Saginaw actuator on it. The arm mount was about 18" from the dish center.
I've extended the mount out to around 30" from dish center and put a 36" actuator on.
Takes care of actuator stress and load.
Last I built an encoder disc with 20 pulses/revolution to replace the original 6ppr magnet.
This winter was the first my ASC-1 didn't freak out with a motor stall error.
No matter how cold and slow the actuator moved, pulses were detected soon enough.
It's all in just diagnosing the cause and fix for the stuff you're seeing.

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Finished it this evening. General impressions with no story spoilers, but will spoil it anyways as it just came out today.

Not quite as impactful of a finale as past seasons I thought, we'll see how far down the rabbit hole things go as the latest plot twists and turns unravel. Thought this season had a full episode or two too much rom-com style disagreements, but it was more or less paid off later. Ultimately didn't enjoy that being more of a throughline in the stories this season compared to what I remember of the priors.

My least favorite of the 3 seasons, but still very good. Really wonder how far they'll go with things, hard to see a nuclear attack or something ever actually happening. They just had a better story to tell and more meaningful beats in the prior season.

Anyone else wonder if there might be something else going on with Callum? Seems to me he has too much access to Russian intelligence.

Regarding the no sound bug when watching 4K HDR events or DVR recordings with Dolby set to ON:
I got rolled back to H708 last night after getting an email from the support team. It fixed the bug.

The email indicated that they believed they found the issue, and if the fix works, they would roll it out via an update in the coming weeks.

So... we should see that bug exterminated in the near future.

Hmmm, I'm not seeing anything like those events in our Hopper 3 guide for tonight or Saturday.🙁

I went into the Tools menu and requested a Guide Update. I'll try looking at it after the update completes.

edit — I now have the 148-01 4KFox events for Saturday, but not anything for 148-02 or 148-03 which don't even show as available channels. I do have 148-04 4KUSA.

As I recall you have the Flex package. Do you sub to multisport? -02 is FS1 and -03 is ESPN. -01 is Fox so you would get that if you sub to locals.

Apple has finally released their Apple TV 4K with built-in Siri and a microphone so it can respond to your queries even if you don't have the remote. It also increases in price, to $299. I had been planning on updating my current Apple TV 4K streamers, but that's $600 for the two of them, and that's a pass at this point.

At $299, it had better come with 256 GB of Storage, Gigabit (or better) Ethernet, the latest HDMI tech and standards, and one year of free Apple One. But it probably won't…

Which that's most tech these days for anything released the last four to five years.

It's honestly a testament to how good the previous gen Apple TVs were and are.

The only thing I can see that is compelling is the AV1 decoding done in the A19's hardware instead of the current ATV4K's processor.

Not a bit. IMO, apple's are slow to boot up. Time is about the same with 1st gen and 3rd. Roku runs rings around them in that department. I only stick I with the Apple tv's is the Apple infrastructure, which has it's definite advantages. But $300 is not worth sticking with it. Later, Apple!

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

For quite a while now, people with a VIP211k have been losing their recordings on their activated external HDDs... even when there's nothing physically wrong with HDD. I believe this is an intentional and underhanded tactic that Dish is pulling in an attempt to force users away from the VIP211k.

They are obviously regretting that they ever let users have a "non-dvr" dvr in the first place. You would think they would be happy charging you a $40 one time fee... and then be happy letting the customer be the one responsible for HDD failures.

Dish clearly hates the 211k bitter-clingers. This recording deletion problem is intentional (IMO), and I think it is just one more tool that they are using. Hopper and a 2-year agreement... that's what they want you to have. Think about that... a 2-year agreement... with a company $30 Billion in debt (that's with a B). What happens when all that debt causes them to drop the channel that may have been your whole reason for having Dish in the first place? Guess who's stuck with a service that no longer suits their needs... for the remainder of the 2-year agreement.

On top of that, they don't want you to install it yourself. I purchased and installed all my equipment myself. That used to be common. Now, they lie to me and tell me that my dish must be updated to use a Hopper. Funny thing is... they don't even know what dish I have because they didn't install it, and I didn't tell them. If you ask what type of dish/LNBs the hopper needs... good luck getting an answer. All they know is that whatever you have needs to be upgraded by an installer.

It is quite apparent to me that they care much more about staying in their box, than they do working with the customer. That's too bad, because it hasn't always been that way. It's like they are totally unaware of the current business environment that they are trying to compete in.

I have been a customer since 2010. I will be cancelling my service before the next period. Yeah, I know, my $1,200 a year won't make a difference to them. It just seems like they have forgotten who needs who, especially when you consider the competition in today's streaming world. But hey, they will have succeed in forcing me off the 211k.

Well, after nine months of being on pause, I finally figured out that I was wasting $5 a month. So I cancelled. For the first time since 2010, I no longer have a Dish account.

I do have to say that I did appreciate the account pause option. That just gives a person some time to see what the fallout of cancelling will be... without having to go all the way over the cliff first.

Since I never once had an "oh shoot, I need Dish Network for..." moment, the decision was a lot easier.

Funny enough, when I called to cancel (for real, not playing the pricing game), all of a sudden, they were offering me deals that I was told before that I couldn't get without changing out my VIP211k. Now, I could have had those specials with them just sending me a new card for the receiver. LOL!

Of course, my mind was already made up because of having not missed the service while on pause. That, and the fact that I bet the 211k still kills recordings.

All in all, I'm glad that I had Dish for all those years. I just outgrew the need, and they pressed the issue by deleting recordings. I would have eventually went this route without the deleted recordings issue. But, for sure, that did hasten the outcome.

I'll still pop in at this site from time to time. Believe it or not, I still have a C/Ku BUD that I intend on playing with again if life ever slows down.
