replacing reed sensor with hall sensor

I want to replace a 2-wire reed sensor with a 3-wire hall sensor in a Venture actuator. Is there a way to make this work with a Gbox? I believe that I need to get +5VDC and ground out to the hall sensor, which won't be too difficult, but can the Gbox function OK with just one sensor wire? Does anyone have a schematic for the Gbox?

Is it possible to open up a reed sensor enclosure and replace the reed with just a hall sensor itself or does the hall sensor need any additional circuity? The hall sensor enclosure seems to be the same as a reed sensor enclosure but, of course, the hall sensor needs 3 wires. I haven't opened up a hall sensor enclosure to see what's inside. I'm wondering if a simple swap out of a reed for a hall sensor can be done to save a few bucks or should I just part with the $50 to get a hall sensor assembly from Venture. Apparently, Venture won't sell the hall sensor without the magnet (which looks exactly like the magnet for the reed sensor) or without the standoff (which looks exactly like the standoff for the reed sensor).

Would like to see pictures of all that. Hard to visualize all what you're saying without having looked at one of those actuators before. One thing I have run into while fiddling around with sensors is the old actuators have a 5 wire barrier block and the reed switch ones have a 4 wire barrier block. I have had to reposition one to accommodate a new sensor. I have an old Venture actuator that uses a cog drive belt. Looks just like ones that don't have a belt. The belt is old and about to break in the one I have. I have yet to find any replacements for it either.

Not sure of what you're asking for but here images from both the actuator for the TEK2000 and KTI. Both actuators are Venture. The TEK2000 is using a hall sensor and the KTI is using a reed. They both mount the same and look the same except the hall has 3 wires and the reed 2 wires.

Well no wonder I couldn't figure out what you were talking about. That so called hall effect sensor is the strangest thing I ever saw.

I pulled a reed sensor apart and replaced the reed in the housing and changed the magnet wheel. This tripled the counts from the sensor.

Where can I get these magnet wheels? I've been trying to find just a magnet wheel but it seems that I have to order a reed or hall sensor kit in order to get a magnet.

I made those wheels. The clear one is two pieces of plexiglass glued together. I cut them with a hole saw. The magnets are cheap. K&J Magnetics Inc. kjmagnetics.com

I suppose that I could try my hand at doing that but I prefer factory built. I suppose that I need to get magnetic bars that end up sandwiched between the 2 pieces of plexiglass? And how did you cut that square hole in the center of the plexiglass? I'm surprised that I can't find a distributor of magnetic wheels outside of an actuator manufacturing firm. I get my actuators from Venture but they don't seem to be willing to sell just the wheel magnet.

However this is a wheel I designed for a reed switch and have no idea about it working with your three wire sensor.

I was wondering if you had a square punch to do the center hole but a file will get the job done without looking too messy. As for your wheel, the same wheel is used on both the reed switch and hall switch in my actuators so your wheel ought to work fine with either switch. I still have a reed switch in one actuator and I'm trying to decide if I want to change it out for a hall sensor or just change out the magnet with more poles in order to increase the pulse count. That's why I've been searching for just the magnet. I'm not sure if a hall sensor will give better pointing accuracy or if it'll last longer than a reed. Not to mention having to supply it with 5VDC.

As I said before, that Hall Effect sensor you have doesn't operate like a hall effect sensor. It makes me think it's an adapter circuit with a reed switch trigger in it. Made for old movers that couldn't use a reed switch. But I don't have one of them to examine so I really don't know what's up with that.
But when I made my magnet wheel I re-did the reed switch too. I doubt that if you made a wheel identical to mine it would operate any of your sensors.

With a optical sensor , the making of a pulswheel is far more easier (I think)
This one was made for a AHM36 H2H rotor to let it work for Usals .

False advertising? I'm not going to open one up to see what's inside although there wasn't any warranty implied.

It's honestly a testament to how good the previous gen Apple TVs were and are.

Not a bit. IMO, apple's are slow to boot up. Time is about the same with 1st gen and 3rd. Roku runs rings around them in that department. I only stick I with the Apple tv's is the Apple infrastructure, which has it's definite advantages. But $300 is not worth sticking with it. Later, Apple!

Regarding the no sound bug when watching 4K HDR events or DVR recordings with Dolby set to ON:
I got rolled back to H708 last night after getting an email from the support team. It fixed the bug.

The email indicated that they believed they found the issue, and if the fix works, they would roll it out via an update in the coming weeks.

So... we should see that bug exterminated in the near future.

I went into the Tools menu and requested a Guide Update. I'll try looking at it after the update completes.

edit — I now have the 148-01 4KFox events for Saturday, but not anything for 148-02 or 148-03 which don't even show as available channels. I do have 148-04 4KUSA.

As I recall you have the Flex package. Do you sub to multisport? -02 is FS1 and -03 is ESPN. -01 is Fox so you would get that if you sub to locals.

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

They finally announced ClipperVision, it will be on DIRECTV, but they didn't provide a channel number yet.

West Palm Beach is getting it on WTCN-CD/43 MNT. Still nothing for Fort Myers

Also, the Thunder's deal for KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa will be via a special cable and DIRECTV only feed of those stations. OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games.

DISH Has Made it Impossible to be a VIP211k Owner

For quite a while now, people with a VIP211k have been losing their recordings on their activated external HDDs... even when there's nothing physically wrong with HDD. I believe this is an intentional and underhanded tactic that Dish is pulling in an attempt to force users away from the VIP211k.

They are obviously regretting that they ever let users have a "non-dvr" dvr in the first place. You would think they would be happy charging you a $40 one time fee... and then be happy letting the customer be the one responsible for HDD failures.

Dish clearly hates the 211k bitter-clingers. This recording deletion problem is intentional (IMO), and I think it is just one more tool that they are using. Hopper and a 2-year agreement... that's what they want you to have. Think about that... a 2-year agreement... with a company $30 Billion in debt (that's with a B). What happens when all that debt causes them to drop the channel that may have been your whole reason for having Dish in the first place? Guess who's stuck with a service that no longer suits their needs... for the remainder of the 2-year agreement.

On top of that, they don't want you to install it yourself. I purchased and installed all my equipment myself. That used to be common. Now, they lie to me and tell me that my dish must be updated to use a Hopper. Funny thing is... they don't even know what dish I have because they didn't install it, and I didn't tell them. If you ask what type of dish/LNBs the hopper needs... good luck getting an answer. All they know is that whatever you have needs to be upgraded by an installer.

It is quite apparent to me that they care much more about staying in their box, than they do working with the customer. That's too bad, because it hasn't always been that way. It's like they are totally unaware of the current business environment that they are trying to compete in.

I have been a customer since 2010. I will be cancelling my service before the next period. Yeah, I know, my $1,200 a year won't make a difference to them. It just seems like they have forgotten who needs who, especially when you consider the competition in today's streaming world. But hey, they will have succeed in forcing me off the 211k.

Well, after nine months of being on pause, I finally figured out that I was wasting $5 a month. So I cancelled. For the first time since 2010, I no longer have a Dish account.

I do have to say that I did appreciate the account pause option. That just gives a person some time to see what the fallout of cancelling will be... without having to go all the way over the cliff first.

Since I never once had an "oh shoot, I need Dish Network for..." moment, the decision was a lot easier.

Funny enough, when I called to cancel (for real, not playing the pricing game), all of a sudden, they were offering me deals that I was told before that I couldn't get without changing out my VIP211k. Now, I could have had those specials with them just sending me a new card for the receiver. LOL!

Of course, my mind was already made up because of having not missed the service while on pause. That, and the fact that I bet the 211k still kills recordings.

All in all, I'm glad that I had Dish for all those years. I just outgrew the need, and they pressed the issue by deleting recordings. I would have eventually went this route without the deleted recordings issue. But, for sure, that did hasten the outcome.

I'll still pop in at this site from time to time. Believe it or not, I still have a C/Ku BUD that I intend on playing with again if life ever slows down.

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

2026-27 NCAA College Football

Really excited for this season with Kentucky having a new coach and some really exciting recruits. Probably won't last long, but here's hoping this season is great.

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:

All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
- Independent of record too! Bonus.
MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
I'm out of ideas.

Cons

Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
- Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
Going to start resting players?
- The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
- Resting players could make games dumb.
- Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

This will be a SAD DAY when this passes ....

They complained the last year that we had a bunch of Blow Outs in the Playoffs ... heres an idea, lets Double the amount of teams and hope for Closer games ... ya right.

This never should have went past 8 teams, 10 at the most.

Now, I have heard that play in games are being talked about, such as #13 plays #24 and so forth, to cut the field down (why cut it down, just don't expand it.)
I'm not sure exactly how thats going to work out or if it was just someone talking.

They were also talking about starting the Season earlier ...

I really don't like the National Championship game being the end of January ... if the Semi Finals are over New Years, thats fine with the Championship game the next week.
