Well after reading this it is not sounding good for us:

heating up, given it's already been the subject of high-level jabs from SpaceX, Dish Network and others at loggerheads over how the spectrum should be used. But if a recent Zoom event is any indication, the debate is indeed ratcheting up.

Maybe it has something to do with the $81 billion the C-band auction raised. The 12 GHz band, once considered high on the cellular spectrum charts, is now being described as one of the best positioned mid-band spectrum bands potentially available for 5G. Granted, the C-band involved lower spectrum, in the 3.7 GHz band, but that was only 280 megahertz up for auction. The 12 GHz band represents a chance to bring a full 500-megahertz contiguous spectrum band to market for 5G.
The FCBA Foundation hosted a Zoom meeting on Thursday that included representatives from AT&T, Dish Network, RS Access and OneWeb, where panelists clashed over whether it's possible for the band to be shared between satellite and terrestrial users. The FCC in January voted to issue a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on the 12 GHz band, exploring whether rules may be changed to accommodate 5G services.

RELATED: Dish, RS Access cheer FCC move to re-evaluate 12 GHz band
Dish is one of the original members behind the 2016 MVDDS 5G Coalition petition that asked the commission to consider new uses for the band and it's supportive of the FCC's NPRM. It is one of the main users of the 12 GHz band for its direct broadcast satellite (DBS) offering that serves millions of satellite TV subscribers who use it to watch video.
Dish also holds the greatest number of MVDDS licenses; it has 82 licenses. That gives Dish a unique perspective on the potential for sharing the band and using it to support 5G. "Dish believes there's a path forward for sharing between DBS and terrestrial, flexible use," said Alison Minea, senior counsel at Dish. "This is 500 megahertz of contiguous spectrum that's far better in terms of propagation" than some other spectrum allocated for 5G.
Dish's hope, at the end of this, is the FCC can find a way to allow two-way, terrestrial flexible operations in the 12 GHz band while protecting DBS. "We believe that this is a win-win outcome," she said.

Alternative spectrum for NGSOs?
As for the satellite operators that are currently using the band for trials and demos, she said Dish wants to see them be successful and suggested there are other spectrum resources they can use.
"I would love to know what other band you think we could use," said Ruth Pritchard-Kelly, senior advisor at OneWeb. "That is one of the biggest questions that the satellite industry has."
OneWeb's low earth orbit (LEO) strategy calls for providing last mile connectivity for mobile network operators to make sure they can connect everyone and that connection doesn't have to be done solely with a terrestrial network, she said.
RELATED: SpaceX accuses MVDDS operators of 12 GHz band 'take-over' attempt
The satellite services are being prepared. "We've already started demos and trials," she said, and by the end of 2022, the entire globe will be covered by SpaceX and OneWeb constellations. "I love engineers. They're amazing. I do hope they figure out a way to share the spectrum, but as it stands now, certainly our opening position is you can't share with a ubiquitous thing that is moving."
Oh, yes you can share
RS Access holds 82 licenses in the MVDDS band; its frequency covers about 25% of the U.S. geography and about 16% of the U.S. population.
"This is a very unique resource," said V. Noah Campbell, founder and CEO of RS Access. "It's a huge amount of spectrum... It's fairly lightly used."

RS Access is not against non-geostationary orbit (NGSO) services, such as SpaceX's Starlink, Amazon, or OneWeb. They will play a critical role in bridging the digital divide, he added.
As a result of the NPRM, RS Access is engaged in an intensive engineering analysis and its preliminary analysis shows sharing is feasible here. "I think we have creative solutions," he said. The NPRM was announced on January 15, when the initial stage of the C-band auction closed with proceeds over $80 billion, and "there's obviously a huge amount of demand… for mid-band spectrum." The 12 GHz band is "very much like mid-band spectrum."
RS Access has pointed out that both SpaceX and OneWeb were put on notice when they received authorization to use the spectrum that it could be used for something else in the future. "The Commission has repeatedly warned SpaceX and other NGSO FSS authorization recipients that it was considering the initiation of an NPRM on exactly this issue," RS Access told the FCC last November. "Neither SpaceX nor OneWeb can claim to be surprised that the Commission could initiate an NPRM on this matter."

Current state of usage
As for the current users of the spectrum, "this is our bread and butter," Minea said. "This is how Dish began," providing satellite TV. DBS is a business that it hopes to grow over time, she said, even though it is currently losing subscribers.
"Our engineering studies indicate there is a very viable plan for DBS to share with terrestrial flexible use," she said. Engineering coordination measures will be required, but "all of this is doable."
DirecTV is the biggest user of the band, and it uses the entire 500 MHz to support its subscribers, according to Raquel Noriega, director, Federal Regulatory at AT&T. "We certainly do not see an engineering path forward here" for sharing, she said.
(AT&T last month announced a deal with TPG Capital to sell a minority stake in its linear video businesses DirecTV, U-verse and AT&T TV. The new DirecTV company will be run by Bill Morrow, who once led Clearwire.)
Pritchard-Kelly said one of the things about satellites is "we can't just switch from Ku to Ka." The satellite is in the sky for its lifetime, which can be 15 to 20 years. This is the kind of discussion that needs to go on for years to give engineers time to discover other bands, she added. "This is a highly used band for a service that at this time, has no alternative."
Users and prospective users of the 12 GHz band will have a chance to tell the FCC what they think should be done. Initial comments in the NPRM are expected to be filed by April 7, with reply comments due May 7.

I don't get it. They are acting like these frequencies are ALL there is, and that they weren't made up at the time out of nowhere.

Why can't they make up a NEW set of frequencies to use? Say 13Ghz, or 11Ghz?

It'll be moot when no one is manufacturing affordable C-band dishes.

Maybe I am old fashioned and still think normal, but I think they would want to suck up the VHF frequencies. Less power, more distance and penetration through objects is better.

Where are those frequencies that are not currently assigned to some service or another by the FCC, ITU, etc. going to come from? Every usable frequency from 9 kHz to 300 GHz is allocated to existing services. The only way to free anything up is to move existing services around, such has been done recently with the TV channel repacks.

You can get a free spectrum allocation chart showing worldwide usage from 9khz to 300ghz.

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:
  • All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
    • Independent of record too! Bonus.
  • MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
  • I'm out of ideas.
Cons
  • Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
    • Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
  • Going to start resting players?
    • The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
    • Resting players could make games dumb.
    • Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
  • How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

This will be a SAD DAY when this passes ....

They complained the last year that we had a bunch of Blow Outs in the Playoffs ... heres an idea, lets Double the amount of teams and hope for Closer games ... ya right.

This never should have went past 8 teams, 10 at the most.

Now, I have heard that play in games are being talked about, such as #13 plays #24 and so forth, to cut the field down (why cut it down, just don't expand it.)
I'm not sure exactly how thats going to work out or if it was just someone talking.

They were also talking about starting the Season earlier ...

I really don't like the National Championship game being the end of January ... if the Semi Finals are over New Years, thats fine with the Championship game the next week.

Oh, I Hate the idea ...

It would be different if it was a game that you could play 2 or games each week, but when you only play 1 game a week, the larger playoff is Not a good thing ...

The season has how many games now, is it 14 ... then you want to play another 5 (with more to come) against Top 12 (eventually 24 teams) ... remember, the 5 games in the playoffs will be the hardest games all year and back to back.

For example, IF Ohio State should win it all this year ... they play 5 teams in the Top 25, plus they would play 5 more to win it all, depending on how the ranking shake out and if Bye weeks are given.

Thats 10 Ranked teams ... in one year ...
I don't see that happening very often ...
Edit, Bama plays 4, Georgia plays 3, But Ole Miss plays 5 (didn't expect to see that)

That said, I don't see the Buckeyes winning it all this year.

On Tuesday, I recorded the first episodes of the new season's NCIS shows on CBS (Dish provided, not OTA). The new New York series and Origins will both do Auto Skip, but the original, now season 24 does not. What's stranger, when I do a search for NCIS, Origins and New York show the current recording and the next episode it will record, but the original show only shows the current recording and some other channel showing the very first episode of season one. It makes no sense. When I set up the timers, I was able to use search for Origins and New York, but for the original, I had to scroll ahead in the guide until last Tuesday when the show was airing. Then set the timer from there. You can see its timer type is DVR where the other two are Seek. What am I missing?
Thanks!

With both CBS and Fox autohop (as we know) is not enabled for a week..But after 24 hours if you mash the FF button until the red kangaroo shows up in the bottom right you wont overshoot the program. No need to try to figure how long the break is.

I'm a bit confused about the recording methods.
Do you havePrime Time Anytime enabled, by doing that you don't have to set recordings for Prime time programs on ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox stations, it's done daily, 7 days a week.
And only 2 weeks recordings are saved, no deletions either.

For niche use cases, yes I agree. Kali for ethical hacking and security testing, and running a Cacti server for network monitoring are the two things I have experience in. Plus thousands and thousands of other things, but for every day use I just can't see it. The owner of the GMRS repeater that I pay to access is changing the Tx DPL tones tomorrow, while Chirp is available on Linux, the software to program my MXT500 is not.

I run Fedora and Ubuntu in VMWare, honestly I don't care much for the UI of either of them and I don't feel like spending days/weeks to customize the UI to make it look Windows-like when I could just use Windows. The cartoonish dock at the bottom of the screen reminds me of Apple products.
EarDemon
I have no OEM bloat, on CTO devices where I can access the drive, I order it with the smallest allowed drive and crack the device open throw the factory drive in the garbage and put in my own WD Black and install Windows from bootable media. For Windows bloat, I install Windows using the English - World option which limits preinstalled MS bloat.

Windows and Office features I wish to block, like CoPilot and Cortana, macro enabled Office files and others are blocked with GPOs.

Between keeping all software up to date, doing firmware updates, putting IoT devices on a separate VLAN, running Symantec Endpoint (say what you want about it, it's been good to me) and practicing safe hex, I'm vigilant but not paranoid about security.

With NVMe SSDs, my cold boot up time on all devices is under 30 secs as well. Fast boot disabled, BitLocker drive encryption enabled.

I have nothing against Linux, been paying with it on and off since 2004ish, it's just not the right solution for me.
HipKat
it's just not the right solution for me.
As I said above, and, FWIW, I run Win11 Pro and Arch on separate 250 GB NVME drives, using F8 to select which I boot to, with a 1TB SSD for storage, accessible to both OSs and a third formatted Nvme I want to use to learn Kali. It was much faster to setup Arch than it was to strip down Windows. Windows still takes much longer to boot.

What is so fantabulous about the Windows UI? By many accounts, it has been going downhill since Windows 7.

There are Linux desktops that offer Windows or Mac UIs, yet you don't hear much chatter about them outside of questions about when the creators might get sued.

Because it's what I prefer. I know I've said this a few times, I use Open Shell to give me the cascading start menu a la WIN 95 and NT4.0. The only reason I went from Windows Vista to 7 back in the day was because of Classic Shell. I cannot stand anything other than the OG start menu from 30+ years ago. I'm using ExplorerPatcher to give me Windows 10 UI elements of the taskbar and right click context menus.

If you could take a look at how I set up Windows 95, you'd find many similarities to how I use 11.

I could probably use that as a starting point, but I don't like the full size icons. If you have to click on each folder that's also a no-go for me, it has to be cascading.

I used to have Peppermint Linux in a VM, that was about as close as I could get to recreating a Windows NT4.0 style of menu structure, but I could never get it to scale properly in VMWare on a 4K display and eventually gave up.

Whatever the boot up time it's fine with me. The longest part of my bootup is the HP SureStart BIOS integrity check. Once that is done, it's only a few more seconds. I haven't done this reg tweak yet since the reformat, but I switched the bootup animation to the Windows 10 style spinning circle of dots, and it's two and a half rotations. I can live with that.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Finished it this evening. General impressions with no story spoilers, but will spoil it anyways as it just came out today.

Not quite as impactful of a finale as past seasons I thought, we'll see how far down the rabbit hole things go as the latest plot twists and turns unravel. Thought this season had a full episode or two too much rom-com style disagreements, but it was more or less paid off later. Ultimately didn't enjoy that being more of a throughline in the stories this season compared to what I remember of the priors.

My least favorite of the 3 seasons, but still very good. Really wonder how far they'll go with things, hard to see a nuclear attack or something ever actually happening. They just had a better story to tell and more meaningful beats in the prior season.

Regarding the no sound bug when watching 4K HDR events or DVR recordings with Dolby set to ON:
I got rolled back to H708 last night after getting an email from the support team. It fixed the bug.

The email indicated that they believed they found the issue, and if the fix works, they would roll it out via an update in the coming weeks.

So... we should see that bug exterminated in the near future.

As I recall you have the Flex package. Do you sub to multisport? -02 is FS1 and -03 is ESPN. -01 is Fox so you would get that if you sub to locals.
As an edit, you need to sub to the National Action Pack at $12 a month to receive those channels.
