I have Dish Hopper 3. I have a OTA adapter feeding the Hopper from my antenna. The Hopper is supposed to display these OTA channels in the program guide and it did as expected. But for the last couple months OTA channel 009-1 CBS displays the wrong information. It displays NBC. I contacted Dish support with no answers. Is there a fix for this?

The big thing between DISH and Sling and the OTA listings is DISH is limited to the amount records that can be transmitted using the DVB satellite standard.

If they go over (or my understanding) get close to going over the Dish receivers start doing strange things.

This is nothing that can be fixed with a software update. It's built into the chipsets used by the Dish receivers.

Now sling on the other hand is not restricted by the limitation. It's internet based and they can change things at anytime without being held back by Chipset and satellite standards limitations.

No one ever imagined Dish (or anyone) would be providing guide data for 20,000 stations (or whatever the number is).

If we had a lot more people with OTA tuners then they would probably make it so guide listings come to you over the internet, but there are so few people with OTA tuners that it's not worth the investment to do that.

The android boxes do not touch the guide. It pulls that data from the Hopper but who's to say in the future that if you want a better guide you can subscribe to Scheduled Direct on your own and use that for your Dish guide.

I know I would love to see that as an option.

10,440 Channels, as of the last available uplink:
"4/21/22 at 7:46am ET (v12) – 12 changes seen
...
10440 Channels"

I highly doubt Dish has added 10,000 more channels since then. Is 20,000 the upper limit that the standards will support?
If we had a lot more people with OTA tuners...
Well, if Dish had kept building OTA tuners into their receivers, we would have a lot more people with OTA tuners. So, most of the blame for that is on their (Dish's) end.

The issue was people were not using them, why spend money on something most people are not using.

I use mine all the time, and watch more OTA TV then I do of actual DISH network service. But I am not the norm.

The issue was people were not using them, why spend money on something most people are not using.
The problem is that around the same time that Dish stopped including OTA tuners in new receivers, Dish also started having more and more frequent contract disputes with local channels, to the point where it got absurdly annoying. Most markets were affected by at least one of those disputes (to make a vast understatement). More importantly, every major market was affected by at least one of these major local disputes, meaning that most people were affected. So, just when Dish customers needed the OTA tuners the most, and Dish was actively pushing those customers toward using OTA, that is when Dish made it less convenient to get OTA integrated into the receiver.

If the OTA tuner had been built-in, then there would have been nothing that Dish needed to ship to the customer. Dish could have still offered the free mudflap antennas as a courtesy. However, Dish also could have just as easily told these customers to go to the nearest big box store to buy a cheap one.

Instead of spending the money on having the OTA tuner built-in (so customers could be more easily prepared in advance of a dispute) Dish chose to spend money on shipping out OTA adapters and even rolling trucks for installers to add them in many cases. In some of these cases, the dispute was so short that by the time the customer received the OTA adapter, the dispute was already over. So, the customer really saw no benefit from the OTA adapter at all, so why keep it hooked up and actually use it? Remember, at that time customers did not yet have the option of dropping the satellite locals from their basic package to save money.

All DISH would have to do is add the Sling tv app to its apps and people could do the rest like I already posted. I know if they get a hopper plus with a browser to add what you want , you could add the app there and this would accomplish what I am saying.

Well I did say that it should be for the Hopper class of receivers. The better receiver should have more than the cheaper receivers. This would encourage those who want better guide information to upgrade to a Hopper.

"A rising tide lifts all boats, except the one that is taking on water." As new and better features get added to the upper-class Hopper line, some more features should trickle down to the lower models. Otherwise, Dish should just sink those lower models, and replace them with newer versions with more features. As in, more features than they had before, but still less than the higher-numbered Hoppers. As it is, Hopper 3 keeps gaining more and more, but what does Wally gain?

Wallys are great for those who take them with them in their RVs or who tail gate in parking lots. They are cheap and they do give you the option to turn it into dvr and add the ota usb dongle so you an see ota stations and record 4 things at the same time: 2 sat/2ota. A lot of older people like Wallys for this purpose. Hoppers are for the those who want everything they can get from the service with all the bells and whistles.

I have two counter-arguments to that:

First, Dish seems to be assuming that nobody who uses an RV has a 4K TV. If you have enough space for a TV with a fairly decent screen size (40" or more, which would also be a great size to watch while tailgating) there are more and more 4K TV options available at a relatively low price. (Such as the 43" ONN 4K TV I got at Walmart.) In fact, I would say it is getting harder and harder to find any new model TV's of that size that are not 4K. So, if pretty much any new TV you get is going to be 4K, why not use a receiver that is capable of sending that picture quality to your TV? Dish pretty much pushes the Wally on RV customers, yet does not offer a 4K Wally.

Second, most of the content that Dish does offer on their 4K channels is live sporting events. (The type of content that most people prefer to watch live.) So, why is a receiver model with DVR service (and the accompanying monthly DVR fee) necessary in order to view this content? Again, this 4K content (that people might want to watch while tailgating) should also be made available on a non-DVR receiver model.

All of my local translators as well as the Class A KPWT (Weigel) all have good OTA guides according to what they tell me, but none of my tuners go out more than a few hours, other than the Recast, and they get the guide info elsewhere. If the stations have the 10 day to 2 week guide, then why don't we see it on most TVs.? One TV only gives the current program and the next. The TV manufacturer much not have a memory chip that will store days of the guide.
I have had nothing but trouble trying to get a good accurate guide from anywhere other than Titan online. Either the box goes with some 3rd company that does not cover everything, or the unit doesn't have the memory to use the complete OTA guide the TV station puts out. It is very frustrating. In contacting Tablo, that evewn charges for the guide, they don't carry all of the channels either. TV Guide is terrible compared to Titan. They offer little here. According to what the Portland stations tell, their guide works. But how in the World can I get it?

Well you don't have to make your Wally a dvr either. So you can watch it all live if you want, so if you are a tail gater that would work for you ,as long as you get Satellite locals. A lot of sports are still on local broadcast tv stations. If you want 4k- DISH is telling you that you need a Hopper 3 upgrade. It's the way they do their business model. You want more ,you get the newer better receiver with the Higher DVR fee. ;)

What is KPWT's definition of "good" in regards to the guide? I can see 2-3 days being "good" with 10-14 days being "exceptional".

Don't get me started on that. Even if the 4K event Dish is covering is also being broadcast on a local channel, Dish doesn't include the 4K version in the Locals Only package (nor in any other cheap package that either includes locals or can get the Locals add-on pack). You need to subscribe to an America's Top package to get the 4K feed. I can maybe see Dish requiring either a DVR fee or a higher package to be allowed access to 4K sporting events (that are already being broadcast in HD in the package you are already paying for) but requiring both? That seems like double-dipping to me. It is a price gouge and a cash grab.
MikeD-C05
Today on my phone I saw a DISH add for the Hopper plus and you can add up to 10,000 + apps to it and watch it all through one input on your tv. So it's out for new subs who get the hopper 3 I guess. Says you just call on the microphone on your remote what you want to watch and it will take you there. No picture of the hopper plus though.

Love this guy's channel. Looks like Walmart has thrown in the towel when it comes to conventional car batteries.

I bought a new AGM battery from Walmart about a year ago, it is already needing replacing. I thought about just buying a regular battery but from what I've read, that might not be a smart move. Might check my Forscan program and see if I can change the battery type from AGM.

When you need a battery, you need a battery.

If you can wait, new technologies are on the not-too-distant horizon.

You're probably doing something wrong if you're only getting a year out of an AGM battery. Heat and infrequent charging both significantly reduce lifetime.

The original AGM battery in my truck was 7 years old when I replaced it. It was still going strong at the time but I didn't want to push my luck. In my experience batteries in today's tech heavy vehicles die suddenly without warning. Especially in extreme heat or cold conditions.

I've had the same luck ....
The 1st one was into 5th year and I replaced it, didn't show much bad, just didn't know if I should keep going with it when we were coming into Winter Weather (at the time).

I did have 1 AGM that Ford replaced as I was losing something in the vehicle, might have been the interior lights, iirc ...
That was quite awhile ago ...

Huh? How can I be doing something wrong.....I took out the original battery, that was 6 yrs old and put in a new one.....kinda hard to screw that up. I figure it was just a bad battery....it happens.

The biggest takeaway I got from this video was the Walmart batteries only had something like 85% of battery life left even though they were brand NEW. The ones from O'Reilly all tested 100% of life left.

And the Walmart ones mostly had very little warranty.

My last AGM (using now) I got from O Rielly's, its the Super Start ... I got the Platnium, they had several to choose from.

The number-one US state for EV growth, according to the June 22 Yardi report?
Oklahoma.

:eek

It has no ZEV mandates and "minimal" incentives, Yardi says, but also has cheap electricity, high multi-car household rates (so, for example, a non-Lightning Ford F-150 pulls their trailers), and a consumer base willing to switch.

GM said its next-generation vehicle architecture will provide 40 times more computing power and 30 percent less wiring than before and will expand from the 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ to its high-volume SUVs, trucks, crossovers, and fourth-generation EVs, which will be powered by lithium manganese-rich (LMR) prismatic batteries

Despite the politicization and perceived consumer pivot away from EVs in America, GM needs to remain globally competitive, so it's doubling down on its fourth generation EVs, with energy-dense, cheaper-to-manufacture LMR batteries, more efficient motors, and state-of-the-art centralized computing architecture. With a stated goal of cutting the traditional four- to five-year concept-to-production time in half, GM is clearly challenging the concept of "China speed," which in the Chinese automotive industry can be as quick as 18 months from design to start of production. In the AI space, GM is smartly collapsing all of its marque-specific apps under the familiar OnStar brand, while providing more features—both on the phone and in the car—than it ever has before.
harshness
Let's tell it like it is. GM's EV efforts are coming from SAIC. The brain trust is almost entirely in China, and GM is hanging off of SAIC's shirt tails.

It is a lot like asserting that the Corvette was designed by Chevrolet when most of it came from the Cadillac CTS-V.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Now right up front....this is NOT intended to devolve into a "pot is good" vs "pot is bad" thread. The whole point is to make you aware of a potential problem that a person can develop when they start smoking pot at a young age. Not that they WILL, but CAN. Kinda like getting lung cancer from smoking cigs....some do, some don't. The purpose of posting this news story is to keep anyone from paying an outrageous emergency room bill......knowledge is power.
While this may not affect you, you might run into someone who is experiencing these symptoms and can share the info. Fortunately, it looks like stopping smoking is the cure and isn't a permanent condition.

If you can't get into the router to reserve an IP address just don't use DHCP on the device that needs connected and assign it to a specific IP address in the network settings.

…it needs to have a DHCP IP address reserved for it in the router settings. This was easy to do in his DSL router. He's switching to Starlink now and I was wondering if these setting are easily accessible in the Starlink router. I'm pretty sure he will be getting the latest V5 router.
The Starlink V5 Install Kit I just got comes with the Mini Router. It is pretty limited in what it can do. For example, it can provide only one IP subnet at a time, no Guest Network, but it does support the pass-thru to a third-party Router. You can also split the Wi-Fi into separate 5 GHz & 2.4 GHz SSIDs to help some IoT devices that don't support 5 GHz bands to work.

The larger Starlink Router that still comes with the V4 Kit does support a Guest Network with separate IPv4 Subnet, but it's $120 from Starlink. And it still won't do DHCP Reservations.
harshness
If you can restrict the DHCP address space to assign addresses to one end of the subnet (i.e. x.x.x.50+), you can manually assign the IP address on pretty much any operating system. This is a default behavior on several popular routers. As the Router Mini only supports 235 devices, I expect that's already done.

Another option is to use a router that supports PoE to power the antenna. This article discusses that option (under PoE Power heading):

The new curated multiview is now live.
While on many of the sports channels and non sports channels there is a multi view option button. It will pull up a side bar with many different multi view options.

The post read: "currently available to streaming customers with Geminis and Roku, and coming soon to Android TV, Fire TV, Vizio, LG, Apple TV and Tizen". It didn't mention the Air. I suppose when it said Geminis it meant both but I had no way of knowing that.
