Does anyone know if the current solar storm we are experiencing could affect FTA Signals. I mean i would think it could. It seems that Fox Arkansas on G10 is a little iffy lately when before it was constantly 95% quality and never broken but the past few days its been really skiddish.

Back in my 'c-band daze' every spring and fall for a week or so, I would lose signal on the sats. for about 20 minutes each, as the sun was directly in-line from the sats. to my dish. I didn't think it was late enough in the year for that however.

Still happens, though it is a little early for it, sometime next month. The sun shines directly on the satellites disrupting the signals. Happens in March and October. If it screws up the analog signals I see no reason why it wouldn't screw up the digital. They say that the heat reflecting of the satellite comes down with the signal and can melt you LNBs and feed horns. I have never had a problem with that, but I have seen photos of the destruction. The best way to avoid it is if you start to loose your signal (it fades out like the skew/polarity is being changed to the wrong one) is to go to the first satellite east of the one being effected and ride it out. As Sikma says, it's take about 20 minutes per satellite. I doubt that if the little dishes can generate that much heat, but I do know for a fact that with the BUD on a real hot day the aluminum will burn your skin on touch.

Just imagine telling all your buddies, "I get all the satellites from 15W to 148W with my bud and on good days I provide power to my entire house with it.":neener

For you married guys out there: "Honey, its not another satellite. It is a new source of solar power for our home.":clap

solar flares can absolutely cause problems with satellite communications. Here is a weblink to space weather http://www.spaceweather.com/ .

X class flares can sometimes totally disrupt service. The reason why we experience some of these effects more frequently in spring and fall is our general location in relation to the sun, not closer, but or angle to it. Microwaves, as satellites in the KU transmit in, are affected by these bursts of radiation (charged particles, as stated in previous posts). I have seen some degredation of the signal, however slight in most cases. And the majority of these slight losses in signal are just for a few minutes. (charged particles move really fast). Good question, hope the space weather site gives you a bit more.

well i can't say i lost it for more than a few minutes; but it would be great and then all the sudden it was gone... i mean nothing..it was weird because i've always had a great signal on fox arkansas and yesterday it's like someone unplugged it...i mean the signal(although it doesnt mean much)was there but the quality went away and then came back ...

Good ole Sun-Outages.. In the cable business we get calls about this every time.. This is the little blurb for our Customer Service Reps:

Sun outages occur when the Sun, the Satellite and the Satellite Dish are in alignment. This is due to the rotation of the earth around the sun. Sun outages occur twice a year, Spring and Fall.

Different channels will be affected at different times depending upon which satellite they are received from. Outages begin with a snowy or tiled picture and then get worse, sometimes losing picture altogether. Sun outages last about 15 minutes on any given channel

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

West Palm Beach is getting it on WTCN-CD/43 MNT. Still nothing for Fort Myers

Also, the Thunder's deal for KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa will be via a special cable and DIRECTV only feed of those stations. OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games.

Thanks for the updates on CW norfolk
Hopefully comes to sat soon!!

Not seeing 44 (WVBT-DT/44 CW Norfolk ) on my D* app for firestick
K
It's only available for streaming customers, they still haven't added that batch of CW stations to satellite.

Even if it was, satellite customers still can't stream their CW affiliates via the app, just the Big 4, select PBS stations and some independents (mainly the ones that have full season NHL/NBA rights)

WCWW/25 CW South Bend and WBKP/5 CW Marquette are now testing on the stream server. These are both already available on satellite.

Be nice to see a Cowboy headline like that.
Yes the Cowboys owner needs to fire the general manager (himself), co-owner, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Executive Vice President, Director of Player Personnel, and President of AT&T Stadium (his son) and then he should jump off of a cliff. Only then can they recover.

Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson had an argument about who was responsible for the dynasty building of the early 90's Cowboys.

The rest of us figured it out in about 3 years, Jerry has had over 30 years but still can't admit it. It's all he lives for, to show everyone he can put together a winner. I don't think he can. His kids only know what he taught them.

I was a devout Cowboy fan in the Landry era, grudgingly gave Jimmy his due, since then not so much, the Jones family took care of that...

Odd that out there, Prem is only 40 cents higher. Here it's a full dollar more.

Last night it was about $4.17 gas, $6,19 diesel.

On the West Coast, a 40-cent differential is common. It used to be 30 cents before the prices rose above $3.

A "full dollar more" sounds like it may be boat gas (non-alcoholic), which is a whole different discussion.

Both non-ethanol and prem run about the same....buck more. When we were up in TN it was a buck more up there as well.

In Oregon, our premium boat gas is about a dollar more than our corn premium. Several stations only offer the non-corn premium grade.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

17 years ago the US turned off analog OTA signals in favor of digital broadcasting. Now the push is ATSC 3 "Nextgen TV". But nobody seems to be able to agree on DRM implementation protocols. People don't want to hook their TV up to the internet in order to watch over the air TV. At least I don't. With all the data they collect about your viewing habits the box should be given away at no cost.
