What's the worst part of getting a new electronic toy? It's activating it. You know it and I know it.

Unwrap that sleek box that your phone came in, call the number, and prepare to wait on hold for an hour. Turn on a new satellite or internet service and a technician takes up your whole day. Even just signing up for a streaming service can take it out of you, as you set it up on multiple devices. Why does it have to be this way?

It DOESN'T have to be this way

What if you could call one number for practically all your activation needs? What if one caring, kind person in a US-based office was willing to sit on the phone with you and get it all done? That would be some kind of miracle, right? Nope, it's reality. This service is available to you, and it's all here right now from your friends at Signal Connect. We are your activation destination. We'll help you get all your electronic devices set up right the first time.

DIRECTV Activations

DIRECTV-for-Business-Authorized-Dealer-RGB-1024x576.png

DIRECTV is still the largest pay-TV company in the world. No, they don't dominate like they did 20 years ago when there was no internet. But tens of thousands of people get new satellite service every week. Even more upgrade their service to make it better, add new devices, or add new channels.

Signal Connect is DIRECTV's Commercial Dealer of the Year and we make that expertise work for you. Whether you're in a home, an office, a boat, an RV, or anywhere else, all you have to do is call one number to get it done. Almost every situation can be handled remotely, and if you need an installer, we'll get you one as well. As a DIRECTV National Accounts dealer, we can take care of any activation no matter how big or small.

DISH Activations

Signal Connect is honored to be a DISH Premier Local Retailer. What does that mean to you? It means that whether you're at home or in a business, we're committed to getting you the entertainment you need. DISH is an especially popular choice for those in RVs or boats, and we do more mobile and marine activations than anyone! We have specialists who will work with you on YOUR schedule to get it done. You'll want to work with the best, and we're here to make it happen.

AT&T Internet and Cellular activations

att_logo_good.png

As an AT&T dealer, we can help you no matter where you are. We can get you the best cell service at the lowest price. We can find you the right solution for residential or business internet. We're your one stop shop. Through our partnership with AT&T, we can even help in areas that aren't served by AT&T! We can help you find the right internet service for your location. We even offer special services like SD-WAN and VPN options.

Satellite Internet Activations

VIASATLOGO.jpg

Satellite internet is the latest and greatest. It's all new, right? That's what some bleeding-edge companies will tell you anyway. We have been working with Viasat, a company that's offered satellite internet for decades. Their new satellite system is faster and more reliable than ever. It's worth taking a look at.

What about Starlink? We do that as well. We'll work with you to make sure you're really getting the right option for the long term, not just the thing that's catching the media's attention today.

SiriusXM Activations

sirius-xm-logo.png

OK, so a lot of people don't think much about SiriusXM once the free trial in their car ends. But they're a great source of music and entertainment with tons of content for everyone. Their pricing is better than a lot of the more popular streaming options, and they have a streaming app, too!

If you're out on the water, you know that SiriusXM offers marine-specific solutions that will knock your socks off. Of course you need someone who can help you activate all of that, and the answer… not surprising… is Signal Connect. We will get you exactly what you need at the right price. Then we'll activate you no matter where on the road or on the sea you are.

The best customer service all in one place

Why would you ever call anyone else? You know these companies. You want their service. But, you also know that most of them operate overseas call centers that can be really challenging to work with. Don't put yourself through that. With one call, you will reach our 100% US-based operation. You'll talk directly to trained technicians. You'll get the service you need. Signal Connect has helped people all over the country just like you. We've made entertainment and information dreams come true.

Call Signal Connect at 888-233-7563. You owe it to yourself to work with the best. We're here during East Coast business hours. If it's after hours, fill out the form below. We'll get back to you quickly! Or, use the chat button at the lower right of this screen.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Lately my eight year old Dell laptop has been shutting off even when I have a full battery. I have had to keep it plugged up all the time to keep this from happening. Any idea what is causing this? I replaced the battery about three years ago.

A recalibration might be needed. Even if it shows full, the individual cells may have become unbalaced. And the BMS chip in the battery reports false information to the pc.
Try this. Start it up in the bios/uefi and leave it there until the battery dies and it shuts off.
It might just keep running longer than in Windows. Or run for a short while and shut off.
If it's the first case. Probably just needs a balancing. If the latter, the pack might just be dead.
Not throwing stones but perhaps just a cheaply constructed battery with substandard cells. Could be.

Patience. Keep restarting it in bios/uefi until it won't fire up anymore.
Then plug the charger in and let it complete a full charge. And see what happens. If it's better.
Do the same thing one more time. Run it until it dies dead-dead. Then just let it charge, pc shut off.
When charged, it might be better. It might not be.

There are bench jigs that read the actual BMS and override it to let a tech manually monitor and charge the separate packs. They can also reset any "time bombs" in it that cause an otherwise good pack to show bad.
Maybe Santa will be good to me some year.

You might just need a new battery. Maybe the PC power management chip is going. A Dell common thing.
Leaving a laptop plugged in with a full battery is known to reduce the life. Asus for one recommends that you don't leave the charger plugged in all of the time even when shut down. And setting Windows to charge the battery to 85% instead of 100% increases life.
That's all I got.

That's all I got.
That was quite enough....I definitely learned something from your post. Thanks

I set up a music server for my brother a few years ago. It's basically a small headless computer but it needs to have a DHCP IP address reserved for it in the router settings. This was easy to do in his DSL router. He's switching to Starlink now and I was wondering if these setting are easily accessible in the Starlink router. I'm pretty sure he will be getting the latest V5 router.

If you can't get into the router to reserve an IP address just don't use DHCP on the device that needs connected and assign it to a specific IP address in the network settings.

They are not. Your best bet is to set up a third-party router, attached to the Starlink for your server, that you can get into, like a Linksys, etc

The Starlink V5 Install Kit I just got comes with the Mini Router. It is pretty limited in what it can do. For example, it can provide only one IP subnet at a time, no Guest Network, but it does support the pass-thru to a third-party Router. You can also split the Wi-Fi into separate 5 GHz & 2.4 GHz SSIDs to help some IoT devices that don't support 5 GHz bands to work.

The larger Starlink Router that still comes with the V4 Kit does support a Guest Network with separate IPv4 Subnet, but it's $120 from Starlink. And it still won't do DHCP Reservations.

If you can restrict the DHCP address space to assign addresses to one end of the subnet (i.e. x.x.x.50+), you can manually assign the IP address on pretty much any operating system. This is a default behavior on several popular routers. As the Router Mini only supports 235 devices, I expect that's already done.

Another option is to use a router that supports PoE to power the antenna. This article discusses that option (under PoE Power heading):

Now that I've had the v5 kit with the Mini Router, it's not as bad as I first thought. Yes, no DHCP reservations, but you can set up multiple SSIDs that have separate IPv4 subnets, and like the big brother, you can select from 192.168.x.0/24 or 10.x.0.0/16 (where "x" is 1-4).

You can also split a subnet and have different SSIDs for the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz channels to handle some IoT devices. I haven't discovered what subnet the 2nd NIC on the router assigns, I'm guessing it's the first subnet.

Terrible tragedy. You would think that they would have safe guards in place that would prevent something like this from happening. I guess if you are going to ride in a passenger train it might be best to get a car near the rear.

They will have to look at the switching sections to determine WHY 2 trains were on the same track ... at the same time.

Thought this article might be of interest to some of you who might travel via train.
