I bought an ipad on the Apple Card with time payment plan because it had zero interest and offered 3% cash back on each monthly payment as well. The only catch was I had to accept Apple Care+ as part of the deal. However once the ipad was paid off I cancelled Apple Care+ and it disappeared from my account.

Unfortunately I continued to see the AC+ show up as a 3.75 monthly payment after I cancelled. I complained as in "report a problem" every couple months but never got the charge cancelled.

In the meantime I had made two other Apple purchases the same way and once paid off I cancelled the AC+ and it ended as it should. The ipad AC+ slipped through.

Today I decided to give it a real try and found a support number for Apple Card on their website. I called the number and got a service rep right away but not at Apple but at Goldman Sachs. Unfortunately he refused to help and claimed They won't stop charging my card unless Apple cancels the service. So I call Apple and they claim the service was cancelled and to take it up with GS. I called them back again and got the same run around. Hung up. and called back trying to get a different support person. This time the GS support person said he will contact Apple and explain the problem and get me satisfaction. After 20 minutes, the two reps were on the phone with me and the Apple rep, an Apple Care+ support, not Apple card support said she would fix the problem and the next month billing would be gone. No refunds for the near one year of billing as even though AC+ didn't show up I still had it since I was paying for it????

So I then explained to her that the confusion on my part was that everytime I tried to call Apple card support Apple sent me to GS and GS told me to call Apple at the same number. She said she will make note of that. Anyway, I asked her if there is some unpublished number I could call if the problem comes up in the future and she gave me that number in an email. However, you have to have a case # to enter to get anywhere with it so it is only to be used if the automated system doesn't get you satisfaction.

I also learned that with Apple Care+ you can no longer cancel it online. The goggle instructions I had no longer work. She said now to cancel AC+ you must call with the case number to cancel the service.

I am planning to upgrade my iphone and maybe my Apple watch this Fall so maybe I will avoid the Apple card - AC+ time payment plan and just pay cash since AC+ seems to be a real problem to cancel. Have to see what the bottom line saving is. I never really put my portable / mobile Apple products in harms way so it seems the AC+ is a complete waste of money.

Good insights. Since the subsequent subscriptions haven't been borked, it may have been an anomaly.

AC+ covers accidental damage and that can even happen to even those who exercise the most diligent care.

If it is any consolation, Goldman Sachs is likely to drop Apple Pay some time in 2026 when their Mastercard contract with Apple runs out.

According to theinformation.com, Tim Cook tried to sign up for an Apple Pay account and was denied!

I got a survey from Apple to complete. Here is what I posted in their follow up comments page of the survey.

The phone number for "Apple Card support" goes to Goldman Sachs. The CSR at Goldman Sachs was not at all helpful until I got to the third CSR who still couldn't resolve the problem but at least connected me with the real Apple person, Stephanie who was great. Apple needs to have the proper phone number under support and get with Goldman Sachs so they know what to do. Apple should not confuse the issue by posting the wrong phone number for Apple Card support or at least explain it is not Apple but rather Goldman Sachs.

Yes, it was a slipup by Apple when I cancelled but I'm at fault for letting this continue for the past 7 months. As the Apple rep explained, when the charge went through the following month my cancellation was cancelled and the service just continued to be renewed each month. The other flaw was it disappeared visibly from my account page and the Apple rep promised to get that bug fixed. In other words, if it renews, it should have showed up on my account and not just on the Apple card after the charge was executed.

Not surprised that GS is dropping the joint venture. Apple also has Citizenone lender for time payments but that is not the great deal that GS is. 0% interest and 3% cash back. When the guy at the store told me I agreed to it immediately with a smirk. He explained that GS hopes most people will not pay the bill each month and run up interest charges and late fees. Guess GS misjudges Apple customers if they aren't making money on the Apple relationship.

The AC+ doesn't really cover the accidental damage because there is always a fee and that fee is often more expensive than the independent repair cost. Break the screen on an ipad will cost $25 for a DIYer to replace but the fee under AC+ is higher than that. Only reason I had AC+ is Apple requires it as part of the GS time payment plan. Probably good for those who don't know a screwdriver from a pliers.

Thanks for the warning. I'll keep it in mind when & if I upgrade next month or so. And maybe get an iWatch.

CASH UP FRONT! Even for AC+, IF….

Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Just had a customer come in inquiring about internet. He has HughesNet and had heard good things about mine. He asked if we provided email addresses and it kinda caught me off guard. I said he should be able to keep whatever email he had been using....my sister in law is still using a BellSouth email addy and they haven't been around here for many years. He said he had gotten a letter from HughesNet stating that they had until Nov 16th to save, move, forward, whatever, their Hughesnet emails because they would lose them after that date.

I have never heard of a company simply mass-deleting email accounts (the customer still has his HughesNet service). From what I understand, in the past, the company who was ditching their email service simply sold the customer base to a company like Google.

Anyone else getting this letter. He said he would show it to me tomorrow when I go out there and set up his internet.

Doing a Google of the HughesNet Email notice, it seems that HughesNet has been trying to eliminate hosting emails since 2019. And with HughesNet filing Chapter 11 back in August, it would be a smart move to switch to a more stable Email provider. Even AT&T farmed out their Email to Yahoo! years ago.

SpaceX's Starlink and the Cellular 5G Home Internet solutions have pretty much relegated HughesNet and its high latency, low bandwidth Internet service to History. If Earth had shorter days, maybe a Geostationary Internet Solution might have stood a fighting chance…

Finished it this evening. General impressions with no story spoilers, but will spoil it anyways as it just came out today.

Not quite as impactful of a finale as past seasons I thought, we'll see how far down the rabbit hole things go as the latest plot twists and turns unravel. Thought this season had a full episode or two too much rom-com style disagreements, but it was more or less paid off later. Ultimately didn't enjoy that being more of a throughline in the stories this season compared to what I remember of the priors.

My least favorite of the 3 seasons, but still very good. Really wonder how far they'll go with things, hard to see a nuclear attack or something ever actually happening. They just had a better story to tell and more meaningful beats in the prior season.

Regarding the no sound bug when watching 4K HDR events or DVR recordings with Dolby set to ON:
I got rolled back to H708 last night after getting an email from the support team. It fixed the bug.

The email indicated that they believed they found the issue, and if the fix works, they would roll it out via an update in the coming weeks.

So... we should see that bug exterminated in the near future.

Hmmm, I'm not seeing anything like those events in our Hopper 3 guide for tonight or Saturday.🙁

I went into the Tools menu and requested a Guide Update. I'll try looking at it after the update completes.

edit — I now have the 148-01 4KFox events for Saturday, but not anything for 148-02 or 148-03 which don't even show as available channels. I do have 148-04 4KUSA.

Apple has finally released their Apple TV 4K with built-in Siri and a microphone so it can respond to your queries even if you don't have the remote. It also increases in price, to $299. I had been planning on updating my current Apple TV 4K streamers, but that's $600 for the two of them, and that's a pass at this point.

At $299, it had better come with 256 GB of Storage, Gigabit (or better) Ethernet, the latest HDMI tech and standards, and one year of free Apple One. But it probably won't…

Not a bit. IMO, apple's are slow to boot up. Time is about the same with 1st gen and 3rd. Roku runs rings around them in that department. I only stick I with the Apple tv's is the Apple infrastructure, which has it's definite advantages. But $300 is not worth sticking with it. Later, Apple!

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

For quite a while now, people with a VIP211k have been losing their recordings on their activated external HDDs... even when there's nothing physically wrong with HDD. I believe this is an intentional and underhanded tactic that Dish is pulling in an attempt to force users away from the VIP211k.

They are obviously regretting that they ever let users have a "non-dvr" dvr in the first place. You would think they would be happy charging you a $40 one time fee... and then be happy letting the customer be the one responsible for HDD failures.

Dish clearly hates the 211k bitter-clingers. This recording deletion problem is intentional (IMO), and I think it is just one more tool that they are using. Hopper and a 2-year agreement... that's what they want you to have. Think about that... a 2-year agreement... with a company $30 Billion in debt (that's with a B). What happens when all that debt causes them to drop the channel that may have been your whole reason for having Dish in the first place? Guess who's stuck with a service that no longer suits their needs... for the remainder of the 2-year agreement.

On top of that, they don't want you to install it yourself. I purchased and installed all my equipment myself. That used to be common. Now, they lie to me and tell me that my dish must be updated to use a Hopper. Funny thing is... they don't even know what dish I have because they didn't install it, and I didn't tell them. If you ask what type of dish/LNBs the hopper needs... good luck getting an answer. All they know is that whatever you have needs to be upgraded by an installer.

It is quite apparent to me that they care much more about staying in their box, than they do working with the customer. That's too bad, because it hasn't always been that way. It's like they are totally unaware of the current business environment that they are trying to compete in.

I have been a customer since 2010. I will be cancelling my service before the next period. Yeah, I know, my $1,200 a year won't make a difference to them. It just seems like they have forgotten who needs who, especially when you consider the competition in today's streaming world. But hey, they will have succeed in forcing me off the 211k.

Well, after nine months of being on pause, I finally figured out that I was wasting $5 a month. So I cancelled. For the first time since 2010, I no longer have a Dish account.

I do have to say that I did appreciate the account pause option. That just gives a person some time to see what the fallout of cancelling will be... without having to go all the way over the cliff first.

Since I never once had an "oh shoot, I need Dish Network for..." moment, the decision was a lot easier.

Funny enough, when I called to cancel (for real, not playing the pricing game), all of a sudden, they were offering me deals that I was told before that I couldn't get without changing out my VIP211k. Now, I could have had those specials with them just sending me a new card for the receiver. LOL!

Of course, my mind was already made up because of having not missed the service while on pause. That, and the fact that I bet the 211k still kills recordings.

All in all, I'm glad that I had Dish for all those years. I just outgrew the need, and they pressed the issue by deleting recordings. I would have eventually went this route without the deleted recordings issue. But, for sure, that did hasten the outcome.

I'll still pop in at this site from time to time. Believe it or not, I still have a C/Ku BUD that I intend on playing with again if life ever slows down.
