I am east of Sacramento near Folsom Lake and found a GeoSatPro 1.2m dish awhile back so I ordered the F1X LNB from KuSat to play around. I am about 200 miles from the Oregon border and estimate about 250-275 miles from the lowest contour. I am getting signals in the low to mid 50's on some transponders, with occasional jumps to 60 where I briefly get video. Other transponders can't get a lock and and jump around in-between 0-50 range. This is using the receivers signal meter so with a professional meter I may be able to fine tune a bit, but doubt that would be enough to make it work. Was wondering if I can find a 1.8m dish, any idea how much it would help and at least get the signal to the 60's for some of the transponders?

Wow, superb news! So this is a 4' dish? 6' would probably take care of business hopefully. Do keep all of us posted, as this is at least hope :)

Will do, been looking at Craigslist and Facebook marketplace but nothing yet, hopefully something will show up. Doesn't look like there is many dealers out there selling new ones anymore, and the ones I have found are more than I would like to pay.

Hey there - long time, no activity. Did you ever have any luck finding a big honkin' dish for your area? Still dreaming, lol. Thanks

Unfortunately no, I still keep checking Craigslist and Facebook marketplace, but nothing, even when I expand the area to most of the west. I did start looking into new ones but haven't even found a place that has something in stock to even get a quote, seems most of the websites are long out of date or don't have any stock in the US. But I haven't given up, will update if/when I get one.

It may take some very selective looking, but try commercial buildings that may have a large offset dish no longer in use. You're not going to have any luck on G1 with a 1.8 meter, but perhaps a government agency might have an even larger offset Ku-band antenna not presently in use. Or a former stockbroker, maybe a school or a gas station. If it is transmit-receive, the transmit part can be removed and things modified for receive only. You will find no deals on new offset dishes larger than 1.8 meters, even if you are in a place where you could pick up and avoid shipping charges for motor freight delivery. Used antennas of this type are rare at this point in time, but keep looking and expand your search. Good luck! Mike

With the 800 series receiver can you still view Shaw Direct in Az ?
I'm new to Satelliteguys so let me give my perspective on Shaw TV reception from someone living in S. Indiana (about latitude 38.9). I have 4 800 series receivers (so all signals go through a multiswitch) and a 75 cm dish. I recently bought a signal meter, SATLINK WS-6933, but have been unable to measure a meaningful signal with it as the Quality Signal measures 0. Perhaps it's my meter settings or perhaps the incoming satellite signal is too weak. I believe it's the later. In any case, I typically measure the incoming signal by taking a Shaw box and a TV outside positioned next to the dish. If there are no adverse weather conditions, the typical signal level is 60 to 70 and EcbNo is 6.0 to 6.5. All strong enough to give me a decent picture. Below signal level 60, my picture starts fading in and out. On a bad weather day (rain, thunderstorms (not uncommon here), snow, etc.) the signal level typically drops below 60 thus no TV. My cable run for all TVs is about 100 yards from dish to TV and my signal loss seems to be minimal as I'll get similar readings at the dish and at the TV.

So, with that as background, I have 2 questions:
1. To boost the signal level, I'm considering replacing my dish for a larger dish, say 90 cm or 120 cm. I currently have an LNB, Shaw 75E-G1(T000409), so designed specifically to be used with a 75 cm dish. When I noticed my signal level decreasing, about 1 year ago, I replaced the LNB with a brand new one and saw no improvement in the signal level. Would this LNB still work with a larger dish? If so, are there any special adjustments that I would need to make in order to get it working? I know others have larger dishes, as one of the threads mentions someone in Denver with a 2.4m dish so there must be a way to make it work. Any advice on this would be appreciated.
2. To be sure my WS-6933 meter is set correctly, any advice on how to set all of the settings?

Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance for all input.
harshness
The signal levels likely changed because Shaw had to take Anik F2 out of service, leaving only Anik G1.

Southern Indiana (i.e., Evansville) is on the bitter edge of Anik G1's coverage area. A bigger dish may or may not help in this band, as it likely would in C-band.

Know that affixing the Shaw LNB assembly to a random 120cm FTA dish is not for the faint of heart.

I'm not sure what LNB switching scheme Shaw uses.

I'm sorry for the delay in my response. I have a very tough installation of Shaw Direct with very long runs. The first is about 300 feet from the Dish to the Multiswitch at our Cabin, and then 4 of the outputs go to the neighbor's place another 250 feet or so away. (He has his own Shaw Direct Account) We struggled for ages with poor signal strength and EcbNo values to his place. I even moved to the 75 cm dish and stock LNB, which did give significant improvement (Swag about 10%). All cables now have zero splices and Aqua Tight F connectors. But it still wasn't enough.

The neighbor was going to throw in the towel as Shaw Direct wouldn't service the area (but now does). Anyway, in desperation I tried an in-line booster => I installed a Phillips SDW5005GN In Line Amplifier after the Multiswitch and his signals all improved dramatically. He and his wife are happy. There are In Line Amplifiers for less than $20 USD on amazon that you can try. Far less costly than a new Dish assembly.

Try one and see if it fixes things for you. Could be the most impactful $20 you ever spent on your Sat system!

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Just happened to me earlier this week. Only popped up when clicking on "forums" tab. Otherwise could navigate site by going back, refreshing, searching, etc. I posted about it in the "site is slow" thread. Thought it might have something to do with cookies, but just specifically a cache clear fixed it.

You got that same radio station screen- wonder what's up with that.

Interesting that the 404 page has different songs playing, leading me to believe the 404 page is actually the one from WION Radio:

That's what I got when I tried accessing i1430(.)com(/)satelliteguys(/)

Scott, do you or anyone else on the forum listen to WION I1430 Stereo AM? Maybe it got tagged in a CCS or other site file? Seems bizarre that two Edge users from different parts of the country would have cache issues to the same live page.

Yay, Microsoft…

Nexstar's relationship with CBS brokedown in several markets, so on August 1st:
Albuquerque: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Hearst's KOAT, KRQE/13 is switching to FOX (FOX is currently on Nexstar's KRQE-D2)
Birmingham: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Hearst's WVTM, WIAT/42 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Sinclair's WTTO/21)
Greenville SC: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Hearst's WYFF, WSPA/7 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Nexstar's WYCW/62)
Jackson MS: CBS moving to a subchannel of Hearst's WAPT, WJTV/12 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Nexstar's WJTV-D2/13)
Minot-Bismarck: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Forum's KBMY, KXMB/12 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Nexstar's non-carried KXMB-D2). In other part of market Minot assume CBS moves to Forum's KMCY and KXMC moves to CW
Rapid City: CBS is moving to a subchannel of Forum's KNBN, KCLO/15 is switching to CW (CW is currently on Nexstar's KCLO-D2)

The other 36 Nexstar CBS markets were renewed

I'll check it out tomorrow on my end too. I'm in the same boat you are- my antenna setup has had issues since Helene. I'd love to do what you describe- put up two antennas pointed at Charlotte & GSP and mesh them together with a Televes Avant or Smartkom to get all the channels but don't like heights myself.

KOAT is now running a test feed on 7.9 (with an ID of "7.4 TEST")

VBR. I've seen it peak as high as 10mbps.

Current programming is a duplicate of the main ABC .1 feed.

Couple issues since Hopper 3 H708 update. Sometimes when I select watch to view a recording in my H3+ Plus, the Hopper goes to live TV mode. On second attempt recording playback works OK. Haven't notice that issue in my Joey 4s. Also, my J4s and WJ4s remote control names keep disappearing. Re-entered the remote control names several times but they disappear the next day. No issue with the Hopper 3 Plus remote control names. Anyone else having these issues?

Yes, I've had some issues lately. On many programs I will start out live, then pause for about 15 minutes while I do other things around the house. I will then return to the program by pressing play, then when commercials come on I press the 30 second forward button 6 to 8 times and then return to the program. Last night when I hit play after pausing, the program went into live mode. When I pressed the back button I could see everything that was recorded; however, when I stopped the back button it went back to live TV. I tired several times to no avail.

Loved this episode. Not only had time travel, but they were instrumental in the death of the dinosaur and an explosion that takes out the 5th planet that is now the asteroid belt and lead to the orbit of Mars moving further out away from the sun, sealing its fate as a dead planet in our time. So the Enterprise was always supposed to go back 65 million years. So much for the prime directive in this situation.

Charter-

Video customers decreased by 21,000 in the second quarter and 172,000 for Internet.

The broadband losses are actually quite bad for both Comcast/Charter, since that is the more profitable part of their business.

I wonder how much Starlink is impacting those internet customers, I know the 5G offerings definitely are.

Fiber also, Charter is/was really big here in Florida, Quantum (AT&T) and Frontier(Verizon) moved into their territory, has been really successful in getting customers to switch.

Maybe Cable companies should rethink their strategy to attract new customers and to keep them. The old plan of announcing new fees for things you never had before after you subscribe and hiking the price every 6 months to a year is not working. Or they could continue to circle down the drain till they go under. At this point I don't really care as long as there is competition that can provide you with their services at lower prices. :smug

A skinny bundle with minimal fees would probably get them a few more years, but the corporate conglomerates that own the networks won't allow it. They're going to milk every penny out of 3 FXs, 6 MTVs, 7 ESPNs...all playing content available on Pluto.
