New to the game... no idea what to do.

Pardon me for my ignorance, I'm a noob to satellite systems and the like.

I'm trying to aim a dish at the AMC-3 satellite to get FTA programming. My dish is a Multistar AT90-1 (90 cm) dish and I have a single Ku LNBF (Model: ASC321)

All I have to go by is the following information:

Azimuth: 190.9024
Elevation: 39.03071
Polarity: Vertical
Orbital Location: 87 deg. West

I have no idea what to do with this information, or what all this means. I'm in Toronto, Canada, and have a full view of the western sky and a partial view of the southern sky.

In addition, the polarization for the LNB is supposed to be vertical, but I have no way of telling whether my LNB is oriented the proper way. Shouldn't there be a mark on it telling me if its vertical or not?

Can anyone please help?

Hehe - thanks. When it's all done I want to do another animated one. This dish REALLY lays over almost straight up and down at 45w. It's tracking 45w-135w now. I get a hint of signal over at 137 but my trees are blocking half the dish there.

I need to trim my trees :dev .

Thanks for all your advice Shawn95GT. I think, however, that I may not be able to use a dish after all. I've tried everything, with no luck. I went out and bought a compass, so I could get the azimuth down to the degree. I have the elevation correct too. Still, no signal from the AMC-3 bird.

I think the problem is that I live in front of a line of trees that's blocking the path to the satellite. I just assumed that I'd be able to use the dish, since my neighbours all have dishes, but I see now that their views aren't being blocked the way mine is. In addition, this grouping of trees is quite dense. Unfortunately, however, they are not on my property so I can't do anything about them.

Is this the end then for me and satellite systems?

I have a Multistar 36in also. The elevation gauge on the side of the mount is not precise. Try to set your azimuth with your compass and after tune an active transponder in your receiver. After, adjust your elevation slowly, watching the quality bar graph.

Don't give up, once you have done it 1 time, it becomes easy and fun !

LOS to the South is what you need. 39° is pretty high up in the sky so it may just be a matter of finding a spot on your property where you can get LOS. For some getting the dish up on the roof does the trick. For me, locating the dish along the North edge of my property and having it shoot South over mine and my neighbor's two story houses makes it happen

61.5 is real low for me (23° or so). This is my LOS to it:

91 is higher in the sky for me (45°ish) and I'm able to shoot over my house:

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Why do you think cleaning technology won't improve in the next few hundred years? HEPA filtration was invented as part of the Manhattan Project.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that.

Since it was already "paid" for, I spent the two hours of my time watching the John Cena action movie on Apple TV, "Matchbox The Movie" even though the reviews were brutal. It was better than I expected, so I didn't feel like I had wasted an afternoon watching it. But it felt like another "Reacher"/"Neghley"/"Mission: Impossible"/"Fast & Furious" crash and blow stuff up with lots of automatic gunfire mixed in movie featuring covert CIA operatives.

I don't think we'll get a follow-up movie from this. I expect Mattel will have other toy lines to exploit.

PISTONS and THUNDER are finally testing on the stream server. PISTONS is showing the Ion/Scripps Sports promo loop filler that their NHL and WNBA feeds have, THUNDER has a "You are watching Thunder+" slate

The Clippers still haven't officially announced their TV plans beyond 10 simulcasts on KTLA, but the NBA's FAQ for ClipperVision is now live. The CLIPPERS feed is currently showing a loop of their Hawaii preseason game.

The Heat still haven't announced their West Palm Beach or Fort Myers affiliates. Since WPLG is streaming the games for free via their app, I doubt we'll be seeing the return of WPLG on stream.

So far nothing testing for the Bucks, Magic, Hawks or Hornets.

West Palm Beach is getting it on WTCN-CD/43 MNT. Still nothing for Fort Myers

Also, the Thunder's deal for KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa will be via a special cable and DIRECTV only feed of those stations. OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games.

It's only available for streaming customers, they still haven't added that batch of CW stations to satellite.

Even if it was, satellite customers still can't stream their CW affiliates via the app, just the Big 4, select PBS stations and some independents (mainly the ones that have full season NHL/NBA rights)
