As an originating DiSH dealer, I of course recall the rollout of DiSH 500. I digress, but you may have noticed that I type DiSH with a small "i"- as DiSH originally did. It stands for Digital Sky Highway, a takeoff on the Internet having been referred to as the "information superhighway". Anyhow, "500" really didn't come along all that long after the 1996 service launch that used the same dishes (dimensionally and electronically) as DTV/USSB was employing (and would later be dubbed the "300" to distinguish from the new dual-slot 500). They likely had been planning on it from the start, to compensate for their not having as much bandwidth as the other guys in one place, as DTV did at 101. DiSH had a fairly good chunk of 119 (this was back when the gov't incredibly gave them the slotting/spectrum for free as long as they were using it) but also Sky Angel, a religious programmer, had applied for and been given a piece of 119. As SA had no means to manage DBS transmission, it struck a bargain with Charlie to share its bandwidth in exchange for carriage on DiSH.

But still this left DiSH short of enough bandwidth at this flagship location for the entirety of the rollout it was intending. It was fine for the launch and early days where they could get traction with a $20/mo. fairly complete basic lineup, but they had their sights set higher. When they unveiled the "500" I could only think, "What a bait & switch!" DBS had promised this tiny, unobtrusive dish, and now here it was growing on us. Just a little, at this first...But now they could add in their bandwidth they had at 110. I thought the doubled LNBFs looked ridiculous and that the plastic "Y" yoke would surely deteriorate in the sun. And now a switch component to put in the line, usually outside, to add potentially problematic coax connections. As subs didn't (as yet) need the 500 to get most programming, I just kept installing the original-type single-slot dishes.

As an epilogue, DiSH then "progressed" through saddling lots of its subs with a huge "Superdish" that took in not just 119 and 110 but also 105 Ku band, where they had placed a lot of locals after having been slapped around for activating distant nets where folks could receive offair. Then the triple DiSH 1000 after they lit up HDTV at 129, torturing us to pull it in from down on the horizon. Now with the shutdown of SD and the dropping of 129, it seems we've come a (nearly) full circle and the good ol' DiSH 500, in its multiply-upgraded form, now again covers most all of their mainstream programming as well as locals.

My point is that DISH equipment and/or methodologies are nothing like what you want to accomplish. That renders most of your theories based on how DISH does things rubbish.

If you want to do anything FTA, you need to be using FTA equipment and technologies as a basis. The model that you should research is perhaps Orby TV.
In particular, you need to pay special attention to why Orby failed, as many of their theories seemed sound.

Reality is a harsh mistress, and she does not pity those who haven't done all of the necessary homework.

He's 14 and pushing the envelope at the glued edge. It would be better to get into classic computers or microcontrollers (Arduino/ESP32) where one can at least learn some fundamentals that will remain useful in the future.

Even aiming a satellite dish isn't all that useful (especially if you don't learn the Mathematics behind it) in today's world of beam-forming technology.

Yeah, he's 14 not 15. But who are we to tell him what hobbies he should engage in. You have to start somewhere and this is where he started. Perhaps later he will decide to play elsewhere. I know that between the time I was 14 and 17 I grew from each avenue I persued.

We are gr'ups (Star Trek reference) with the necessary background to put the ultimate usefulness of a technology-oriented hobby into perspective.

DBS satellite is uniquely a consumption proposition (and that requires a subscription). The World needs more contributors.

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that. ;)

Just finished S2. Watching Gary Oldman as deshvilved, dejected MI-6 agent, Jackson Lamb, is one of the best things streaming right now. Already 2 more seasons in the works. HIGHLY recommended. And yes, Mick Jagger sings the theme.

Well, the season finale went balls to the wall. Non stop action and several twisted twists. Gary Oldman at his best. Very well written and executed. Tavener owes Jackson big time. Only "if" was Jack Lowden's (River) cliffhanger, especially admin-st the buzz that he is the next James Bond in waiting.

Sorry to see Flyte go. I also liked the Coe character. Sooner or later someone is going to take Taverner out. I think I will enjoy that.

I read that Lowden (River) was photographed during production of Season 8. Hopefully he will be back for 7 as well.

Hear, hear! Flyte was probably the most competent character in the show. We were also sad to see Coe come up short against the Russian operative.

Still some uncertainty about the last five minutes. The line from Lamb about "faking one's death" gives us something to think about until the next season.

Now right up front....this is NOT intended to devolve into a "pot is good" vs "pot is bad" thread. The whole point is to make you aware of a potential problem that a person can develop when they start smoking pot at a young age. Not that they WILL, but CAN. Kinda like getting lung cancer from smoking cigs....some do, some don't. The purpose of posting this news story is to keep anyone from paying an outrageous emergency room bill......knowledge is power.
While this may not affect you, you might run into someone who is experiencing these symptoms and can share the info. Fortunately, it looks like stopping smoking is the cure and isn't a permanent condition.

Didn't see a thread like this so I figured why not start one. This is about natural supplements. If you aren't into supplements, fine, but please let those of us who do want to discuss this discuss it.

The first one I wanted to mention has been a real life changer. I'm 62 and still do all of my own install work at my business....also do all the yard work at the house. A few years ago I started noticing that I was losing my range of movement, it was even getting hard to bend over and lace up my boots. Almost got stuck in an attic because I couldn't get turned around once the work was done. Didn't think much of it and figured with age comes stiffness that was only going to get worse as time went on.
It was then that I stumbled across a video which was discussing rotator cuff tears and why they were to prevalent these days. Turns out, the culprit is a simple deficiency in MANGANESE which is key in keeping your tendons flexible. Most anti-biotics strip your body of any manganese it might have had which is why certain anti-biotics, especially those in the Cipro family. I actually knew a man who had two tendons tear while on that stuff.
Went to Amazon and ordered some manganese. Now it took a while, it wasn't instant, but gradually I have regained all of my flexibility. I can bend over and touch my toes while standing with no pain and putting on my boots is no longer a chore.
Pretty cheap too. The bottle I ordered was a 200 ct for under $13. They said to take double the normal dose for the first month because most people are severely lacking, then go to one a day.

Chia Seeds
Kinda the whole idea is to mention something and explain WHY it is something we might want to add to our daily routine.
This is what I got from google. Looks like I'm going to be adding them, thanks

Key Health Benefits
    • Digestive Health: One ounce (28 grams) of chia seeds provides nearly 10 grams of fiber, which promotes regular bowel movements, feeds beneficial gut bacteria, and helps prevent constipation. [1, 2]
    • Heart and Cardiovascular Support: Rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)—an essential plant-based omega-3 fatty acid—chia seeds can help lower blood pressure, reduce triglycerides, and improve cholesterol profiles. [1, 2, 3]
    • Blood Sugar Regulation: The combination of soluble fiber and protein slows down carbohydrate digestion, preventing sharp blood sugar spikes after meals. [1, 2]
    • Weight Management: When soaked in liquid, chia seeds absorb up to 10 to 12 times their weight in water. The resulting gel expands in the stomach, increasing feelings of fullness and curbing appetite. [1, 2, 3]
    • Bone Strength: They contain high levels of calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus, which are vital for maintaining bone density. [1, 2, 3]
    • Antioxidant Protection: Compounds like chlorogenic acid and caffeic acid help fight cellular damage from free radicals and reduce chronic inflammation. [1, 2, 3]

I have taken this stuff for years to help my joints. Over 20 yrs ago my shoulder sounded like it had gravel in it when I rotated it. Started taking this and after a few months I had my range of motion back. I mentioned this product to a doctor and told him the results I had and he totally blew it off....said it was just a coincidence. This has no shellfish like most joint supplements.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
