I have never subscribed to Dish so I am eligible for the new subscriber promos. I want an 811 for my main room and a 522 for the kids' 2 tv's. My local store says they can meet any deals on the 'net, but they haven't sold any 522 units. I am waiting to hear from them if I can get the 811/522 combo. First I am trying to figure out what the monthly rates would be, per example, if I choose the America's 120 package(40 bucks). I know the HD package is $10, so I am at $50. Now is there a lease charge of $5/receiver?, (2 recievers,811 and 522), which would put me at $60? I would have a phone line hooked to both units, so as to avoid the extra $5 charge for extra receiver. Also would there be a $5 charge for the DVR? I believe there is, which would put me @ $65/month. I am not sure how it could be more confusing, heh.

Thanks for the replys. The local dealer basically confirmed the same thing today but now something else. They are telling me I have to pay the sales tax on the retail prices of the 811 and 522 which will amount to about $60-70. I asked why and they told me that they have to purchase the equipment from Dish and thus are responsible by the state for sales tax, thus I have to pay it. I am in Indiana and its 6% sales tax. Is this the norm?

It is the norm if you are purchasing from a retailer in the same state. It is NOT the norm on DHA. With DHA, DISH supplies a tax exemption certificate because they are purchasing the equipment back from the retailer to lease to the customer. Your monthly taxes on the lease fees ($5 per recevier) are the only tax liability you should have.

Please have your retailer consult their CPA regarding this matter. They are paying too much to the state.

Please refer your retailer to this link on the retailer website: http://rweb.echostar.com/marketing/promos/resale/index.asp

Resale Certificates
Terms and Conditions
The Digital Dynamite and Digital Home Plan program is a promotion whereby EchoStar Satellite Corporation enables the customer to receive Dish Network programming without having to purchase or maintain the satellite receiver equipment. In exchange for providing the equipment, the customer pays EchoStar a monthly payment for a minimum period of twelve consecutive months. EchoStar Satellite Corporation is purchasing the equipment from the dealer and obtains title to the equipment after reimbursing the dealer.

For all other promotions, including Cable Conversion, One-Rate, Big Dish Exchange, which are not part of the Digital Dynamite and Digital Home Plan program, EchoStar is NOT purchasing the equipment from the dealer. The customer receives title to that equipment. EchoStar Satellite Corporation or its affiliates is not liable for any sales or use taxes on this equipment, since it did not sell the equipment to the end user or purchase it back for it's own use. The tax liability resides with either the customer or the dealer.

For your convenience in documenting sales to EchoStar for resale or rental in conjunction with the Digital Dynamite and Digital Home Plan program, you can download from this site an EchoStar Resale Certificate. You agree that this Certificate is for documenting sales for Digital Dynamite and Digital Home Plan programs only and cannot be used as a Resale Certificate for Equipment Reimbursements used in other promotions.

If you accept these terms, please click here.

So is this $5/receiver lease fee already figured into the package? I thought the $5 charge for the 2nd receiver above was a mirroring charge. Would this push me to $73 a month?
S
Well, my local retailer looked it up and told me that they were allowed to charge taxed on retail prices. The way they read it, only in NJ, MIN and 2 other states are they required to not charge taxes. I am not going to pay them the taxes, and I really don't want to purchase from an e'tailer atm, so I think I will do without Dish atm and stick with my D'tv. The whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth and it seems a hassle.
M
You probably don't want to do business with a retailer that can't figure that out anyway. You are not PURCHASING anything. You are leasing all the equipment in DHA, and therefore are not liable for the tax on the equipment. DISH charges tax on the lease payments included in the monthly fee. I don't know how you could be charged sales tax when the ownership of equipment that is never transfered to you. It's not a sale, it's a lease.

Drop me an e-mail. I may be able to do something for you: mainstreet@checkyes.tv

$5 of the basic package price (i.e. AT60 for $29.99) is considered an equipment fee, or lease charge. Each receiver after the first also has a $5 lease charge that is added to the total monthly amount.

So basically, your monthly charges would be:

$39.99 AT120 ($34.99 + $5 equipment charge)
$00.00 Local channels (if available)
$05.00 522 Lease/equipment charge
$04.98 VOD/DVR fee for 522
$09.99 HD Package
$??.?? local and state taxes
_______
$59.96 plus tax

There are no 'mirroring' or additional outlet fees with DHA unless you do not connect the 522 to a permanent phone connection. If it isn't connected to the phone line, you pay an additional outlet fee of $4.99.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Luckily my DTV stream package doesn't have a rsn fee. Figure DTV that always says is the leader in sports would have come to an agreement by now.

Greenville-New Bern is $11.99 for MASN (Orioles) and Nationals
Raleigh is $11.99 for MASN and Nationals
Charlotte is $12.99 for BravesVision, MASN, Nationals and Reds

The fee in NC also includes the higher in state rate they have to pay for ACCN. Down in SC the fee is $15.99 as they are also a SEC state.
I'm not sure if they're doing it with those teams, but in some markets they also use the fee to cover the additional cost they have to pay for independents and MyNet stations that picked up full season NHL and NBA rights.

If you go to the TVPromise site, you'll likely be able to get a credit for not getting the Hurricanes and additional Hornets games that air on WITN-D2

Figure DTV that always says is the leader in sports would have come to an agreement by now.
Part of the hold out might be the packaging and price for outer areas like how the Thunder needs sports pack for other states. Hopefully they are also pushing for a guarantee from the teams that they would require whoever wins their local broadcasting rights in 2028 to negotiate with MVPDs. Commercial distribution rights are probably a factor too.

I'm guessing they got a deep discount for the Clippers based on how long it took them to officially announce ClipperVision and their KTLA simulcasts after they were basically handed a multi-year draft death penalty.

The Predators and Pistons channels are using feeds supplied by Scripps Sports

The Heat likely depends on whoever they sign for the Fort Myers DMA, as there's no point in paying a high price for the Heat just for that DMA when WPLG is streaming it for free on their app and website for viewers in the Miami DMA, and they already carry the West Palm Beach station.

One thing these five teams have in common is that they all signed exclusive local streaming rights deals with DAZN, replacing their traditional regional sports networks.

I know the Spurs will have 22 games available OTA on KMYS-TV CW35 in the San Antonio market, but they'll still be available on DAZN as well. The CW35 broadcasts are an additional option, not an exclusive arrangement.

With channel 680 now available, we should be able to get all the Spurs home feeds on NBALP again! (as well as the other teams above of course)

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

But a box can weigh more than an ounce..maybe 2...a can might weigh 5 ounces..a bag...not much

Well, according to the price per ounce on that first bag of coffee he mentions, that would mean the bag weighed over 6 ounces. That bag does NOT weigh 6 ounces. According to Google, an empty bag weighs half an ounce.

You need to weigh the actual bag...a deli bag weighs less than that but a thick coffee bag is gonna weigh around an ounce...an empty tin can has some weight

Products sold by the ounce, pound, etc, should always be priced for the product only. Only the shipping weight should include the packaging.

Unless the specific product or its packaging is known at the time of weighing, estimating the tare weight for a PoS system is a tall order.

I'm pretty sure that produce bags can't get any thinner. ;)

You certainly don't want to put unbagged produce on a belt, scale, or in a clerk's hands (gloved or not).

I would think that all the packaging would already be accounted for ... they weigh the container, subtract that from the scale, then add the product , so its weighing the Product only

You would be thinking wrong when it comes to goods that are sold by weight (meat, produce, nails). Those items typically go on the scale wrapped without an associated tare. The weight only excludes the sticker because it hasn't been printed yet.

Thats ridiculous ....

Thats not how Deli does it, I know your talking pre packaged.
They need to CHANGE that.
Jimbo
A pound of Coffee, does that include the package it's in ?

No, a pound of coffee refers strictly to the net weight of the coffee itself (16 ounces), not including the weight of the bag or packaging. [1, 2]
  • Net Weight: Food and coffee sold by weight are required by law to list the net weight on the label, which measures only the contents inside the package. [1, 2]
    • Packaging Weight: The foil bag, valve, and label add extra weight to the total item when you hold it, meaning the gross weight on a scale will be slightly more than 16 ounces.
    • Watch Out for Bag Sizes: Always check the label carefully, as many specialty roasters now sell 12-ounce (three-quarter pound) bags while keeping the price or visual impression similar to a full pound. [1, 2, 3]
meStevo
The larger discrepancies are likely from a data or sync issue. Digital tags don't cause the error, but they can spread one bad entry across a whole store or region instantly. The small cent differences are probably just rounding in the weight, the price data, or both.

Perhaps only for sliced meat and cheese. Salads and similarly "shifty" or "drippy" items are typically weighed in deli cartons of some sort.

My monster burritos (up to two lbs.) are weighed in their foil jackets or paper mache take-out trays, and the jacket/tray is then "sealed" with the printed label as it comes off the printer.

Precision has to give way to practicality in situations like that.

You mean you were pirating the VCII and entering "Wizard numbers" every month after key change? GI finally resorted to changing out the keys twice as often, then even more often, down to just hours, making it mostly untenable?

When i was a kid, i used to salivate envisioning me having a Cband dish. It wasn't until about 1995, I installed my first Cband dish, and i remember it took me about 2 weeks to get that dish aligned properly.. This was before internet, and i had to call and talk with people on the phone about advice on how to properly tune the dish. I can't remember the receiver, but it had a UHF remote. I had the satellite receiver in the living room, but i ported it to two TV's, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. It was so nice being able to control the receiver with the remote in the bedroom about 40 feet from the living room. I remember watching Rosanne feeds where it would air the entire week in succession. Nice nostalgia.

That is a misnomer. In the old days you subscribed to telephone service. That included the telephone line and one telephone. An extension cost $1 a month extra. So that $14,000 over 42 years was for the service not the leased telephone. There is no way they paid $28 a month for 42 years for a leased telephone.

Also Echostar 26 another super satellite on order for 119 orbital location will be ready in 15 months. he will have 110/119 for another 20 years. Dish will be the only satellte company left. The reason for rural areas and some people like satellite easy to operate and change channels in seconds.

I hope these new "most powerful" satellites will mean that DISH can provide every channel that can be sourced in HD in HD. I do not like the fact that two of my favorite channels (Start and H&I) are SD. I was also very disappointed after installation that METV has to be streamed from my internet connection. Finally, I dropped the locals upon seeing that my local CW channel is in blurry letterboxed SD when it has been HD OTA for years.

This piece gets me - the fact that Dish has removed SD channels from satellite completely in the name of "HD upgrades". I pay for satellite TV, not streaming...I don't see why they couldn't leave the SD version of the channels on Satellite then put the HD streaming version like they have for other channels.
