Satellite police

I called in today to activate a second hopper. i had the rep run the numbers they came back as clean not leased and no money owed on it. so i said activate it. and he turned around and said that dish no longer allows two hoppers on one acct.. you used to be able to one leased and one purchased!!! i call BS on that!!! since when is dish no longer allowing people to buy receivers from third party dealers aka solid signal. the rep said it would be a leased box. did i just deal with a complete idiot or has dish changed there policy? i am thinking i dealt with a complete idiot. the rep even said there going after people with more than one hopper and shutting them off.

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

I simply can't wrap my head around paying THAT much for fuel when other states are paying $2 less per gallon. My F-150 holds 36 gals. When I fill up I usually put in 25 because that's the max you can with the Chevron Rewards discount...that means I'd be paying $50 MORE per fill up.

Part of the reason is that California recently shut down some of their refineries.

Really, where is that in the chart? The charts look rather similar for Colorado, California, and Texas. The magnitude difference between Texas and California appears to be close to the difference in gas taxes, about 50 cents per gallon.

Another reason for the higher gas price in California is that they mandate a special blend of gasoline to help alleviate smog. It has worked for the most part.

You don't have near the auto and truck traffic that California has. You also have an entirely different climate, more wind, rain and humidity.

Hopper EHD Indexing Issue

I have a Hopper 3, and sometime in June we began having an issue with the attached external hard drive (EHD). When the EHD was sorted by title, only recordings up through the letter "S" were being shown. When the contents were sorted by record date, recordings beyond "S" were shown (i.e., recordings beginning with "The" or "Z"), but older recordings were not shown. All the recordings that are shown on the screen can be selected and played, so apparently nothing's been deleted; just the indexing by the Hopper is malfunctioning. Further diagnosis indicated that only 38 screens of recordings, or about 570 recordings, could be shown. Dish customer service has been spectacularly unhelpful; I've called them 5 times on this issue, and after walking through the usual Tier 1 and Supervisor steps (reboots, unplugs, etc.), they claim to be submitting tickets to their engineering group. We have yet to hear back from anyone, and the last software update was to version 711 on 8/30/2026. They even sent us a new Hopper 3, and the problem remains. Is anyone else seeing this issue and/or has a fix for this? Thanks!

To see more, just change the sort order from Date to Name. It won't show you more than the number shown, but it will show some shows below the list by date. They are still there, and if you look at a series recording, you may see some after the date; they still show up as previously recorded.

It's just a max-display bug, since they thought 6TB HDs were out of reach for the public when they wrote the EHD code.

I reported the same thing a few months ago with the same response from everyone. The thing is, I could swear that in the past (more than a year ago), I was able to see all my recordings, much greater than the 570 we can see now. And Dish crows that the Hopper can support up to 20TB of external storage! What's the point if you have to connect a dozen small disks? it's so stupid and I am convinced it a bug that was added a number of software releases ago. But, as other have stated, Dish doesn't give a crap. I had a 3TB drive (not large by today's standard) that was about 60% full. I added a second 2TB drive and it took many days to transfer half of my recordings to the 2nd drive. It's a royal pain in the butt because you have to move them to the Hopper first, and then to the other drive. What makes it worse, if you select more than 3 or 4 recordings at a time, the Hopper gives up with an error and you have to do a reboot to continue. Their support for EHDs is garbage. My old Vip 722K was much more robust, even though it only supported up to a 2TB drive.

THANK YOU. I knew I couldn't be the only one out here facing this issue who thinks it's worth addressing. If I were to bill Dish for the time I've spent on this, they'd owe me a couple of years of free subscriptions. Since Dish seems to be largely unconcerned with user experience and sequesters its engineering department behind its unskilled customer service teams, the next move is to see if we can get the BBB to spur them into taking action on this. After being with Dish for 29 years, you'd expect a little more personal attention on their part. Why others in this thread are content to just say, "Oh well, it's just the way it is..." is beyond me. If you do the math, I've probably given Dish close to $40K over the years. To say I'm PO'd is an understatement.

Over 23 years now and we still subscribe to SiriusXM and still get a discounted rate every 5-6 months. I still don't have a credit card on file and am happy to pay the $2 invoice fee to not keep a card on file. We would't have started with SiriusXM that long ago had it not been for SatelliteGuys. I bought my first Sirius receiver when someone here offered them for sale. JVC KT-SR1000

I still have my original Sirius boom box with associated car dock from 2003, before satellite radio receivers became pretty much standard in all new cars. It still shows on my account as being inactive but still receives all the channels. The receiver has been largely dormant all these years and hasn't received a deactivation hit yet. I bust it out every once and a while to see if its still working. The phone app and bluetooth speakers basically made it obsolete.

I just recently brought my old Delphi Skyfi from 2002 to e-waste. I would take it out during the FREE activation events to reminisce. The last time I tried it the radio wouldn't work any more. 😢 :rip
