You know it is bad when your wife is so furious with Dish Network, that she is ready to call and give them a tongue-lashing!!! I had two 811 Receivers installed with the SuperDish in early December and have had problems ever since with those software bugs everybody is mentioning.

My question is: Has anybody been able to get out of there one year committment with them regarding the 811 receiver. If they won't let you out, has anybody received and free programming in the meantime while there working out the bugs like free HD package, free locals, etc.? Sounds like they don't have any idea when they will fix the problems. I'm not waiting much longer for the dark picture on the SD channels. That and the Check Switch issue about losing satellites isn't gonna fly much longer! I've been angry but nice to themso far, but now that the wife is chewing me out about the Satellite not working, I'm starting to get a little p'd off. Has anybody threatened them with getting attorneys involved if they refuse to do something? I don't mind waiting for the fixes, but I refuse to pay full retail for something they are not providing as advertised. I'd say to not pay the bill, but that will only hurt your credit reports because you won't be paying your bills. Any suggestions from other 811 owners?

I noticed in another thread, someone had suggested emailing an email to ceo@dishnetwork.com. Should I go straight to the top or give the CSR's a chance to give me something in return?

below is the response I got from going the CSR route through the tech support link on the Dish Network web site. So good luck on that approach. If contacting "ceo...." is a better route why don't they have these individuals as front line support as IMO the "other" support is useless.

Dear Technical support,

Please tell me I don't have to wait indefinitely for a fix on these issues. Watching Charlie Chat every month and checking the link you provided is not an acceptable answer since there is no indication as to "when". This indicates to me that it could be months before a fix is distributed. Meanwhile I have to pay for something that doesn't work? There are many people waiting for a fix. It would be nice if you could provide a time frame for the S/W update. I'm sure you must by now have some idea when the release will be done since this issue has been ongoing for a month and a half.

On yesterdays Tech Chat it was indicated that a fix was forthcoming for the dark picture problem on the SD outputs. There was no mention of the problem with the HD outputs. So what about them? Jusi in case you don't think there is a problem with HD outputs being too dark you can go to here ("here" was a link to a thread in the original message) and read the most recent posts. There are also other forum threads I can reference but this one is representative of the posts in other threads.

Regards,

Gordon Small

Dear Mr. Small,

Thank you for your e-mail and your question on the HD 811 receiver. We are aware of the issues regarding the 811 receiver and our Engineering Department is diligently working on a solution. There is currently no ETA regarding the release of the software. Please stay tuned to the monthly Charlie Chat on channel 101 every month; or please use the following link http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/aboutus/index.shtml. We appreciate your patience in this matter.

Full Name: Gordon Small

Account Number: 8255-

Question: I just subscribed to Dish Network and had the Dish 811 receiver

installed. This receiver has a couple problems. One problem I'm

experiencing is that the picture is very dark. I have to increase my

brightness level to max in order to see the picture. Also the guide is

messed up. If I try to view something more than two hours into the future

the video hangs up and the system is trying to access the satellite for

guide data. The guide does eventually get there but it takes a while. This

can't be the way it was designed, or is it?

Are these problems because of bad hardware? Should I contact Radio Shack

and have them replace the 811?

Someone told me that it may be a software issue. If this is the case, when

will it be fixed.

Thanks,

Gordon Small

Gordon,
I like how they reply with that "we love your patience junk" but nowhere did I see any offerings of a discount or free services while we wait endlessly. Heck for all we know our one year committment might be up before they get this figured out. I beginning to think they just want to drag there feet because for all they care, they are still getting paid by all of us! I've never seen such customer service.
W
I don't have a problem waiting for DISH to fix the problems with the 811 receiver. I too get the fix switch and reboots when switching from OTA to Sat. After all, the receiver was free and its not like I am denied service completely.

If the receiver didnt work at all I would expect to be compensated accordingly for my programming outage. Since that is not the case, I will allow DISH the time to fix the problems. I think the bigger issue with DISH is the severe lack of HD programming included in the HDPack. I had to order VOOM So I can use both services to meet the programming needs of my household.

Maybe a class action lawsuit? It appears they sold us a defective product without any warning. At the very least, they should allow us to dump the HD package.

Luckily my DTV stream package doesn't have a rsn fee. Figure DTV that always says is the leader in sports would have come to an agreement by now.

Now in the Hornets and Hurricanes markets we just get the TV promise screen. But Directv still charges sports fee I am assuming.
Greenville-New Bern is $11.99 for MASN (Orioles) and Nationals
Raleigh is $11.99 for MASN and Nationals
Charlotte is $12.99 for BravesVision, MASN, Nationals and Reds

The fee in NC also includes the higher in state rate they have to pay for ACCN. Down in SC the fee is $15.99 as they are also a SEC state.
I'm not sure if they're doing it with those teams, but in some markets they also use the fee to cover the additional cost they have to pay for independents and MyNet stations that picked up full season NHL and NBA rights.

If you go to the TVPromise site, you'll likely be able to get a credit for not getting the Hurricanes and additional Hornets games that air on WITN-D2

Figure DTV that always says is the leader in sports would have come to an agreement by now.
Part of the hold out might be the packaging and price for outer areas like how the Thunder needs sports pack for other states. Hopefully they are also pushing for a guarantee from the teams that they would require whoever wins their local broadcasting rights in 2028 to negotiate with MVPDs. Commercial distribution rights are probably a factor too.

I'm guessing they got a deep discount for the Clippers based on how long it took them to officially announce ClipperVision and their KTLA simulcasts after they were basically handed a multi-year draft death penalty.

The Predators and Pistons channels are using feeds supplied by Scripps Sports

The Heat likely depends on whoever they sign for the Fort Myers DMA, as there's no point in paying a high price for the Heat just for that DMA when WPLG is streaming it for free on their app and website for viewers in the Miami DMA, and they already carry the West Palm Beach station.

There were some technical issues during the pregame, where 668 was showing the Pacers feed instead of the Timberwolves feed until a few minutes before the game.

On the stream API it looks like some areas need the Sports Pack, what's his zip code?

Which is what is interesting, I see the 4KFox channel on 148-01 but we're not subscribed to our Locals. So why it's coming in is puzzling. I thought that maybe it was a perk for Dish subscribers for the MLB Postseason.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Well, the bag can't weigh that much, right? But by law food product packaging must display the actual net weight of the product, i.e., the contents of the container, so by any logic, if not law, a store's stated per-ounce cost should reflect that figure. But since there's not any law regulating shelf statements, a store can say whatever it wants without violating any rules. So I guess the answer is more consumer legislation. Or simply caveat emptor.

Well, according to the price per ounce on that first bag of coffee he mentions, that would mean the bag weighed over 6 ounces. That bag does NOT weigh 6 ounces. According to Google, an empty bag weighs half an ounce.

Products sold by the ounce, pound, etc, should always be priced for the product only. Only the shipping weight should include the packaging.

Unless the specific product or its packaging is known at the time of weighing, estimating the tare weight for a PoS system is a tall order.

I'm pretty sure that produce bags can't get any thinner. ;)

You certainly don't want to put unbagged produce on a belt, scale, or in a clerk's hands (gloved or not).

I would think that all the packaging would already be accounted for ... they weigh the container, subtract that from the scale, then add the product , so its weighing the Product only

You would be thinking wrong when it comes to goods that are sold by weight (meat, produce, nails). Those items typically go on the scale wrapped without an associated tare. The weight only excludes the sticker because it hasn't been printed yet.

Thats ridiculous ....

Thats not how Deli does it, I know your talking pre packaged.
They need to CHANGE that.
Jimbo
A pound of Coffee, does that include the package it's in ?

No, a pound of coffee refers strictly to the net weight of the coffee itself (16 ounces), not including the weight of the bag or packaging. [1, 2]
  • Net Weight: Food and coffee sold by weight are required by law to list the net weight on the label, which measures only the contents inside the package. [1, 2]
    • Packaging Weight: The foil bag, valve, and label add extra weight to the total item when you hold it, meaning the gross weight on a scale will be slightly more than 16 ounces.
    • Watch Out for Bag Sizes: Always check the label carefully, as many specialty roasters now sell 12-ounce (three-quarter pound) bags while keeping the price or visual impression similar to a full pound. [1, 2, 3]
meStevo
The larger discrepancies are likely from a data or sync issue. Digital tags don't cause the error, but they can spread one bad entry across a whole store or region instantly. The small cent differences are probably just rounding in the weight, the price data, or both.

Perhaps only for sliced meat and cheese. Salads and similarly "shifty" or "drippy" items are typically weighed in deli cartons of some sort.

My monster burritos (up to two lbs.) are weighed in their foil jackets or paper mache take-out trays, and the jacket/tray is then "sealed" with the printed label as it comes off the printer.

Precision has to give way to practicality in situations like that.

You mean you were pirating the VCII and entering "Wizard numbers" every month after key change? GI finally resorted to changing out the keys twice as often, then even more often, down to just hours, making it mostly untenable?

When i was a kid, i used to salivate envisioning me having a Cband dish. It wasn't until about 1995, I installed my first Cband dish, and i remember it took me about 2 weeks to get that dish aligned properly.. This was before internet, and i had to call and talk with people on the phone about advice on how to properly tune the dish. I can't remember the receiver, but it had a UHF remote. I had the satellite receiver in the living room, but i ported it to two TV's, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. It was so nice being able to control the receiver with the remote in the bedroom about 40 feet from the living room. I remember watching Rosanne feeds where it would air the entire week in succession. Nice nostalgia.

That is a misnomer. In the old days you subscribed to telephone service. That included the telephone line and one telephone. An extension cost $1 a month extra. So that $14,000 over 42 years was for the service not the leased telephone. There is no way they paid $28 a month for 42 years for a leased telephone.

This piece gets me - the fact that Dish has removed SD channels from satellite completely in the name of "HD upgrades".
