Interesting, my AT&T home internet is unhappy with some IPv6 features. Ditto with my Boost Mobile. Could be Safari on my iPhone settings…

Yeah, my ipv6 traffic dies at my Unifi Gateway, so definitely a problem there, I need to test direct to the ONT and verify it's not actually Cox. I'm close to pulling the trigger and upgrading my infrastructure to 2.5-10g anyways and making some other significant changes, so probably done messing w/ that for now.

When I checked out and about on my phone (Fi, so likely TMobile) I was passing all the tests.

Edit: oh, fun. Now my home connection is passing all the tests. Maybe there was a lease renewal or something.

OK on an RV trip but when I get back I'll do that. I'm pretty sure I will bite the bullet soon and go with sky link. A lot of money for hardware but DISH is such a pain in my back side.

It is only free if you maintain a certain plan for a year i believe and it really is plug and play so dont really need an installer and there are other stipulations on ability to change plans etc. Myself I would deal direct with Starlink and leave Dish out of the equation.

Sure, it's plug and play if you just throw the antenna out in the front yard and run the cable through the screen of a window. Most people prefer a more permanent install than that and many of those people are not capable of getting up on the roof or running the cable in an acceptable method. So, installation is a definite plus for some, not so much for others. JMO

never said everyone does not need an installer but it is pretty much as i said plug and play and joe homeowner can even follow the kids directions for setting up and even mounting if necessary

jesus--they get them installed because dish offers the install free when you go through them to sign up and who doesnt like free things--also in certain areas star does offer 3rd party installers which is basically what dish techs are--it is an option that you can use or not--you're on some high horse trying to say that every single person that wants starlink is to dumb to drill a hole, put 4 screws in a mount and twist it to the position in the box in the app for alignment--its not rocket science (pun intended)

I know that you think you know what you're talking about but you don't. I'm the one out there doing the installs. Very, very few of those people are able to do it themselves. Its utterly moronic to keep implying otherwise.

It's laughable that you think that just cause you know how to do something, everybody does, but please, keep telling me all about the job I do every day.

there are over 12 million active customers that i am sure that everyone did not need some dish installer or any installer to install starlink for them but hey carry on thinking everyone is stupid and you are the great starlink install savior for the masses

Did I say everyone? No you say everyone. Actually you said nobody needs an installer to come out and install Starlink for them. I'm gonna say this one more time and maybe you'll get it through your head, I do up to four Starlink installs every day. Which means face-to-face with customers, and almost all of them are incapable of doing an installation themselves, other than, like posted above, throwing it out on the front lawn and running the cable back in through a window.

Seriously, at this point, you're just making yourself look foolish.

Not everyone needs an installer is correct!!! though if it's being offered as a free perk why in the hell not take it???? id'e much rather play supervisor while having a cold one than be up on a roof trying to point a damm dish

Yet unmentioned is that with starlink you're patronizing an Elon Musk co. DiSH I'm pretty sure is (still) oblivious to the ethics of the people it deals with, but not all of the public is going to be sellable for starlink on any basis

I've purchased similar rubber bellow in bulk before.

monz i am not hijacking your post, but i have the similar dish that i play with and i cannot seams to get it going because my focus length, distance between lnbf and the depth of the dish that i measure is not working right, i try many different positions with my lnbf and its the same. The lnbf works, but cannot get it going with that dish you have in picture thanks

It's EASY to calculate the F/D ratio for your prime focus dish. Measure the diameter of the dish from edge to edge in centimeters. Then, put a flat board or straight on its edge 2x6 all the way across it from rim to rim. Then measure the depth in centimeters in the middle of the dish (deepest part) from the bottom edge of the 2x6.

Plug those values in this calculator, and hit Calculate: F/D Ratio - Satellite Calculators | SatLex®

For instance, lets take a 10ft dish that's 304.8 centimeters in diameter. Let's also say it's 20 inches deep which equals 50.8 centimeters. That dish would be 0.375 F/D ratio.

I found a previous post entitled "1000.4 dish dpp lnb eastern arc" and tried aligning with aluminum foil over the outer feedhorns since a posted picture shows the center feedhorn to be the 72.7. Using that method, I didn't get a signal from any satellite. My direct single coax cable is connected to the #1 F connector. It's kind of confusing when the picture on the post show each LNB F connector has a specific satellite. I thought F connector #1 was the one to use with a single receiver.

Removing all foil and I can get 61.5 or 72.7 but not both. I have done multiple check switch tests and only one or the other satellite is displayed.

So 10 years later, what have I forgotten to do that was so easy back then?

Since you are in Iowa I recommend getting a Dsh 500+ antenna the biggest antenna on ebay. Just tune in to 110/119 location since 118 is not used any more. You will get 80 signal. Easten arc is weaker.

Wrong. For one, he's in an Eastern Arc market so a 500+ - Western Arc dish will do him no good.

No he is located in Iowa. I was suggesting to buy a new antenna 1000+ or 500+ but costly.Eastern arc is okay for east cost. Not for midwest. I have an extra 1000+ plus antenna also eastern arc antenna not impressed with eastern arc.

You're pushing a Dish that is a, expensive, b, points at Sats that are no longer working, and c, is obsolete.

I'm always sorry to see someone leave satguys. It's just that when you put forward something as authoritative (like use this or that) then you have to understand that others may disagree. I don't know of any forums on any subject where a difference of opinion is not allowed, or even encouraged. Sorry you're offended by that.

If readers here see and read your posts, they may try your suggestions. Depending on their results, they may or may not value your input. HipKat is entitled to try and save them the trouble.

41 years in the business here, and after working on literally thousands of dishes of every shape and type, my experiences have pretty much been the opposite of your's and about the same as HipKat .

Is your mount plumb? This has the earmarks of the mount not being vertical and throwing off your skew angle.

ugh last time I attempted this which on android platform, you can download the Anywhere app to TV log in and you will get access to all that you subscribed to Either the streaming version of channel or Satellite fed threw the box? preferable the streaming versions though it unavoidable if you want to watch a DVR that streams from the hopper directly to the device crappy at best imo.

Only time dish anywhere is of acceptable quality is when it "streaming" from an online feed

we use an apple tv PQ seems to be awesome. i heard people say the PQ with a firestick is garbage and not as good as an apple tv. while we can't see certain channels we can see the channels that we watch plus we can setup recordings up from miles away and watch them anywhere even while in motion with starlink.

oh the PQ is amazing in comparison to watching on the hopper 3 via satellite "feeds", providing it is streaming "feeds" hopper 3 image is not all that amazing as people say it is, that is mostly there TV processing the image. if we talking raw image from h3 on tv that barely processes the cause image processing is that bad, it pretty obvious how bad dish image is.

Watching channels via h3 satellite feed vs the streaming feed that use when satellite feed goes out, is night and day difference image wise. I have tv that dish look horrible on and if go watch different tv it look great in comparison cause the tv doing way better job of processing image making it look "better"

Same for Dish anwhere so long is streaming "feed" and not a feed by h3 satellite feed that now be streaming to the device using anywhere if it doing the later it terrible

My parents needed a new TV in November of 2024 that could be seen at any angle in the room, because there couch and 2 chairs sit at angles far from each other and a fireplace in the corner locks them into that arrangement. So I hunted different TVs and tried them at their house and they all looked faded sitting at the side.

So I saw an LG OLED B-3 series 55ich TV they were selling at $749 off Amazon at the end of that year, because the new C series was coming out. Watched the Review videos on You tube and this TV worked at any angle with no fade on corners and the picture was excellent. Everything Popped and the colors were excellent and vibrant. Liked it so much from the review video that I bought one for my parents and one for us too, at the same price.

Well my Buddy also decided to buy the same TV since it was on sale and he got it hooked up to his Hopper with Sling and we looked at the DISH satellite picture and I was shocked. Every thing looked as sharp as could be with no artifacts or halos in the picture. The color was wonderful as well. Now on some older SD reruns from the 90s and 2000s showing dark rooms there was a hint of it up close, but not sitting in the room at a normal distance. He recently added the DISH Plus unit to his hopper with sling, that puts out everything in up-converted 4k, except actual 4k that plays as is. The picture looked even better and he is happy as can be.

All the arguments about who had the Best Picture between Directv and DISH came back to me from the past. Directv was sharper, but had artifacts in the picture supposedly and DISH was softer, but less artifacts in the picture. The TVs we had back then were not as good as this OLED TVs of today. Might not of mattered back then if we had these type of TVs back then. But 4k upconverted outputs using the Plus unit - does help the picture as well.

Rambling about picture quality.

Satellite channels with the Joey 4 look better on the old 65 LG oled than with the Hopper 3 on the newer Sony 77 oled.

I don't have a Hopper Plus.

Maybe the satellite picture quality with the Hopper Plus would be better than the Hopper 3 satellite box?

Trying streaming from Dish Anywhere app to see if the stream is better than sat.

Picture using Dish Anywhere on my latest Apple TV 4K box on the channel I'm watching started out alternating between fuzzy and clear.

The picture stabilized after a few minutes.

I have an old Apple TV HD connected to and big older TV.

I had to remove Dish Anywhere application and reinstall it to get it working on the old TV with the Apple TV HD.

I hooked up a Google box to a non oled 43 inch LG 4K set.

The Google box Dish Anywhere combination looks and works great.

Wonder what the picture quality will be with a wireless Joey 4 for the satellite chanels?
