Folks,

I want to put one of these Super Dish's to grab 110/119 and 105 or 121. I don't care about locals since we get them with cable modem (Comcast Cable Modem Tax) I'm on the east coast. Which kit should I get ? I'm thinking it is the 121 since the 105 has locals and the 121 has international. I could get rid of my 61.5 and get them on one dish. Would there be an issue hitting the 121 bird from PA/NJ area ? Anyone can explain the differences in the 105 or 121 kits ? Would there be a signal loss issue trying to hit the 121. I already read couple of posts on the 105/121 birds being weak as is due to the FSS spectrum. I want to cleanup the dual dish's hanging off the front of my house and this sounds like a plan..

TIA

Thank you chelsea for the info. Looks like even though DishNetwork provides much more international programming (for very high cost), they make it impossible for a customer to subscribe to it !!! I wonder what will happen to all these customers of local analog channels when they are all shut down by FCC after 2006. I think there will be a massive exodus of customers from satellite to cable. It will be nearly impossible to provide all local channels in HD.

Unless the "must carry" law is changed, E* and D* will NOT have to carry local HD channels, DT yes, however DT does not automatically mean it is HD. Once all NTSC analog stations are turned off, D* and E* will simply up link these locals in SDDT, which will take up no more bandwidth then the current NTSC stations and their will still be plenty of subs that will be content with these. Besides by the time the NTSC channels are turned off, hopefully the DT channels will all be at full power by then and unlike analog, if you can receive DT at all it will come in crystal clear for Free. Those who want local HDTV will be able to receive them for free ota and their satellite receivers built in DT OTA tuner will seamlessly integrate those crystal clear HD ota channels in their epg, so why again will everyone flock back to cable?

At the moment NO DT is required to be carried, even SD. One early DT only station found that out by turning in their analog license and broadcasting only on DT - although they continued to provide E* with a private SD feed, E* dropped the station. Must carry for them died when they turned of analog.

While not decided, the talk seems to be in favor of carrying the primary programming feed in the same compression that is done OTA. But the answer is still a lot of debate away.

The trick will be getting the signal to the viewers. The initial grants proved insufficient and most broadcasters have found themselves applying for higher power levels than the FCC originally planned - just to have the same footprint as their existing analog signals. It is a real mess.

All or nothing with the fringe viewers getting blocky dropped out video. Not cool. Satellite, even in SD, will be needed to get the signal out to all viewers (remembering that many DMAs have areas where the Grade B coverage of their analog stations does not reach). Cable will do OK, but they really don't have that much more advantage over satellite and won't.

HD is cool - but true HD sets are still out of range of most consumers and that isn't going to change by 2006. EDTV will become the most common seen format for the next few years. The FCC is requiring (in stages) new TVs to come with DT tuners capable of tuning all 18 standard DT formats - they are NOT requiring HD displays.

If you want internationals get the 121 dish. BTW: There are locals on both 105 and 121, some markets on one and some on the other (and a few still moving to 121). But as you stated, your interest is in internationals and that is 121 (of the FSS birds).

121 is slightly west of 119. If you can hit 119 cleanly you shouldn't have a problem. Your dish will look like it is pointed a lot further west than your current Dish500. SuperDishes are aimed at the FSS bird (105 or 121) with the DBS LNBs offset (one in the center next to the FSS LNB, and one on the outrigger). A Dish500 would be aimed at 114.5 -- straight up the middle of 110/119 -- SuperDish 121 aims at 121.

The LNBs are set up differently on 105 and 121 dishes. Standing behind a 105 dish and looking south the three LNBs are (left to right) 119 on the outrigger, 110 and 105 in the center casing with 105 dead center of the dish. On a 121 dish the order (left to right) is 121 and 119 in the center casing and 110 on the outrigger (121 dead center on the dish). The heads arre not interchangeable between 105 and 121 dishes. Plus, since one of the DBS LNBs is practically on top of the large FSS LNB, the center feed horn is different.

As noted 105 and 121 are FSS birds, slightly lower in the Ku band but much lower in power. They need the bigger dish to get a signal. That is also why the dish is centered on the FSS bird, to give it the best chance of being received. DBS birds are higher powered and are much easier to tune.

121 supers are going up in california, I cant see why someone would have a problem getting a 121 for any international programing that comes on the 121 such as great wall or the enhanced arabic packages. Ive never had a customer complain about difficulties in getting the super except for those living in apartments for obvious reasons.

Finished the 2nd episode tonight. I'm really liking it so far.

Still hate weekly releases though, especially the way Disney and HBO do it waiting until 8pm to premiere it.

Apparently I'm not a big enough nerd🤓 since I did not read every Marvel Comic Book ever published. If I had, I might be comparing the comics' version of events compared to what's transpiring in "Visionquest". So, I am enjoying the series a lot, not weighed down by previous expectations, knowing only the Avengers MCU movies and the "Wandavision" / "Agatha All Along" TV series.

I found the Mr Know-it-All channel from his discussion about "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" and he's been gleefully picking these episodes apart, referencing the Marvel comics from the 1939 on. Turns out A.I. has been around since before World War II, at least in the comics. (Robots before that, yes, yes.) This show is going back into the archives.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

SpaceX has held talks with Boost's parent company EchoStar in recent months about launching its own signature wireless service through a deal with the company, according to two people familiar with the negotiations.
Musk, the SpaceX CEO, has discussed the deal personally, meeting with EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen last month, according to the people. The potential deal may result in SpaceX acquiring Boost Mobile or SpaceX gaining access to its network, which it leases from AT&T and T-Mobile US, the people said.
Access to those lease agreements would be a coup for SpaceX. The back door would allow Musk to make a play for a U.S. wireless market that equity research firm MoffettNathanson estimates is worth $235 billion. But the proposed service may need consent from those carriers for the service to actually launch, the people said.

Can't remember where or who I saw predict this. :D

It wouldn't surprise me to see Elon soon own all of DISH / Echostar in the future.

Again, why would Musk want a TV Service, specially one that is losing over a million subscribers a year.

Phone service…maybe, but not TV.

Again, if so, why would he want Dish/Sling of all the providers?

He could deliver anything without actually owning, for example, watching the Lions game in my Tesla Y on it's screen via the YT app, while on the way to my future in-laws on Sunday.

Just a guess on my part but there may be some value to aquring to get all the retransmision agreements that are in place even though at some point they need to be renewed

If Musk really wants to buy Boost, he might get a great price once Dish Wireless is out of Chapter 11.

Boost just lost 182,000 subs in the 3rd quarter-

M
Is Dish like Iran in one way...they both will totally collapse by end of week :)
Foxbat
Other than the price, my experience with Boost is not that different than what I experienced with my years with Cricket. I will be curious to see what happens if SpaceX takes the reins.

I have Dish with Hopper3. I choose to get local channels OTA and had a "guide list" established at my previous home. Having moved a few miles away, I wanted to update the list by appending a couple new stations via a rescan. As many would know, some stations come in with the UHF/VHF antenna aimed in one direction, while others come in better with a different direction.

Unfortunately, when a scan is done (bringing in 25-30 stations for that particular antenna aim), the dialog screen does not present the established guide list; it presents an empty field to the right that the scanned stations may be selected one by one and added to the empty guide. But because of antenna aim, some stations originally saved are missing, and would have to be retrieved with a different antenna aim. But as I explain, if a 2nd scan is done with a different antenna aim, the stations saved from the first scan are lost.

It troubles me that Dish didn't develop software that would allow a user to simply append only 1 or 2 channels to the established list.

Any thought on this? Has anyone experienced this or heard of this from others?

I could very well be wrong....it has been a LOT of years but back when I had a 722K it seemed like when you went back to the scan screen that you could just scan again and it would ADD those channels to the previous list or you could delete the previous results and only add the channels from the new scan.

I am not sure about that but I do know that you could manually add additional channels just by entering the actual RF channel number and the older receivers would add the virtual channels to your list

Like I said.....that has been many years ago. Swapped my 722K for a Hopper in 2012.

It does seem like I remember having to delete the existing channels when we did a rescan. Back then our local stations KEPT monkeying around with things and it was non-stop complaints from customers about their channels not coming in. Got so bad that I stopped selling OR installing OTAs....something I had been doing since 1984 so you know it HAD to be pretty bad.

Balls
Bears. Took care of the elite Seahawks defense in a great performance.
NFC North. The entire division is 2 games above .500
Lions. Finally handed an L to that weird Minnesota team. Good vibes for Jack Campbell.
Pitt. Took the lead of the division convincingly.
Bengals vs Titans game. Fireworks game. Not sure it was a well-played game, but it sure was fun. JoeyB with 6 scores... and 4 turnovers.
Denver. They keep winning, man. Payton is a baller of a coach.
Packers. Thorough beatdown of the hard-to-read Panthers.
Jags. Demolished the hapless Colts.
Rams. The Super team finally wins back-to-back games.

Goats
Vikings. Took their first L. I know their D is insane, but their offense is setting back football to the 1950's.
Cowboys. Lost a 2-score lead vs. the Gardner Minshew-led Cards... at home. Embarrassing.
Browns. Playing for the division lead by scoring 6 points.
Bucs vs Falcons game. Setting modern football back to the ice age. Honorable mention to Tua Penix err ... Michael Tagov .... well, you know what I mean.
Bengals fans acting like Burrow just won the MVP after his performance. I get it. 6 scores is awesome. But. He also turned the ball over 4 times and required overtime to beat the 1-win Titans. So spare me the parade.
Chiefs. Not because they lost. It was a close game decided on the last play vs. a divisional rival on the road. That's always rough. But because of their whining over the CLEAR flag they got on the would-be winning play. They are used to getting the calls, and when they don't, they complain. Honorable mention to Mahomes for this quote: "I mean, at the end of the day, you have to go with whatever is called, but a lot of times in those big moments, the little stuff doesn't get called like that"... so you admit it was a penalty?? Just shut up, man.
Colts. They began the fire sale earlier in the week, and it showed. This team is cooked; Daniel Jones should go to the bench, and Steichen will be fired pretty soon.
Chargers. Wow. That's all I got.
Miami. For having the Pats sort of on the ropes and letting them go.
Eagles. Another team that should consider selling some assets. They are going nowhere.

The NFL, for some time, has protected the marquee quarterbacks. Brady, Mahomes, Allen, Burrow - they all get the calls.
The lower tier QBs don't seem to get the same benefit. For instance, some of the hits that Darnold took from Chicago on Monday night would have been a flag frenzy if any of the marquee QBs were hit like that. And I am not in any way a fan of anything Seahawks related. I am a fan of balanced officiating - and that hasn't been the case for a while.

My team is not immune to this - Fred Warner laid some vicious hits in the Commanders game that I thought should have been flagged - one was, but they picked it up.

Not a good look on NFL officials.
