kinda of old news but hasnt been posted.. interesting though.

Advance/Newhouse is the parent company of Brighthouse Networks.

NEW YORK, (Nov. 2, 2005) – Sprint Nextel Corporation (NYSE:S), Comcast Corporation (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK), Time Warner Cable -- a unit of Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX), Cox Communications and Advance/Newhouse Communications today announced they will form a joint venture that will accelerate the convergence of video entertainment, wireline and wireless data and communications products and services to the approximately 41 million customers currently served by four of the country's largest cable companies as well as to Sprint's nearly 46 million wireless subscribers.ÿ The venture has the potential to serve approximately 75 million homes currently passed by the cable companies.

The companies in the joint venture will work to develop converged next generation products for consumers that combine the best of cable's core products and interactive features with the vast potential of wireless technology to deliver services anywhere, any time.ÿ Leveraging the expertise, technical leadership and customer focus of Sprint and four of the largest, most successful cable and broadband communications companies will provide millions of customers access to the most advanced integrated entertainment, communications and wireless products available anywhere in the United States.

Terms of the Agreement

The joint venture, which is mutually exclusive for three years and has a 20-year term, calls for a combined initial financial commitment of $200 million, $100 million of which will be committed by Sprint and $100 million of which will be committed collectively by the cable companies.ÿ The investment is expected to be used to fund the development of the converged services, national marketing initiatives and back office integration.ÿ The companies contemplate additional participation from other cable companies.

Beginning in 2006, the companies in the joint venture plan to:

· Offer consumers access to the expanded four element bundle, or "Quadruple Play," or any combination of services including video, wireless voice and data services, high speed Internet and cable phone service

· Serve growing consumer demand for a wireless "third screen" beyond the TV and computer screens

· Develop and introduce new co-branded wireless devices that will provide new and unique features that integrate cable and wireless services all on a single device

· Sell and market these co-branded products and services to customers through a combination of 1,600 Sprint retail stores, cable retail outlets and other third-party distributors, including thousands of RadioShack stores

Unlike MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) or other wholesale relationships, the companies participating in this joint venture will retain full economic benefits of the acquired customers, similar to what they currently enjoy through their direct retail channels.

Next generation wireless products and services

The next generation wireless phone will be designed to connect customers of Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox and Advance/Newhouse Communications to Sprint through Sprint's nationwide high-speed Power Vision™ EV-DO (Evolution Data Optimized) network and integrate products from each cable company. Customers using the converged services will be able to seamlessly interface between email, home and mobile voicemail, Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) and photo programs.ÿ An interactive demonstration of these capabilities and services can be found at http://64.207.132.216/. The parties plan to implement and sell Power Vision™ EV-DO-enabled handsets and service packages that will enable customers to:

· Use interactive features like remotely programming their home DVRs

· Have a single voice mailbox that serves both the home and the wireless phone

· Access innovative new calling plans which allow for unlimited calls between the home and the wireless device

· Surf the Internet using their cable Internet portal

· Send and receive e-mail from their cable high-speed Internet account

· Access unique content like streaming television programming, music, video clips, games and pre-recorded DVR programs

In addition, the five companies have agreed to work together to explore potential next generation wireless technology business plans for new services that could be provided using Sprint's Broadband Radio Spectrum (2.5 GHz), with the goal of further integrating wireline and wireless services.ÿ This spectrum has the capability to provide high-speed data connectivity that can help deliver an even wider and richer array of entertainment and communications services.

In each market, the price of the integrated offering will be agreed to by Sprint and the cable company serving that market.ÿ Each cable company will be responsible for billing customers and for customer service in its territory for the converged offering.ÿ Customers can enjoy the convenience of a single bill for all of their services, including video, data, phone and wireless.

Gary Forsee, president and CEO of Sprint Nextel said, "The new Sprint-cable partnerships will forever transform what used to be merely a cell phone into an indispensable third screen in customers' lives.ÿ By giving consumers more access to information, entertainment and data from their cell phone, we will create more loyal customers, and we'll further drive our growth.ÿ With the convergence of technologies and capabilities accelerating, we will create personalized content, useful innovative applications and easy-to-understand navigation required by consumers.ÿ Together with our cable partners, we will have the unique content and distribution assets to realize this opportunity."

Brian Roberts, chairman and CEO of Comcast Corporation said, "This agreement, which represents the most expansive technological convergence of its kind, will deliver to our customers an unprecedented level of real-time, high-speed mobility and access to content all in a single package.ÿ We have always believed cable provided the best available entertainment and communications experience, and by teaming up with other leaders of our industry, we will now take that competitive advantage to the next level. Together with Sprint Nextel, we look forward to developing fully integrated products that give our customers an even better entertainment experience whether they are in the home or on the move."

"We believe this joint venture is the right way for cable operators like Time Warner Cable to fully engage in the wireless business in the most customer-friendly and least capital intensive manner," said Glenn Britt, chairman and chief executive officer of Time Warner Cable.ÿ "This is really about much more than adding a fourth element to our existing video, data and telephone bundle.ÿ It is about developing a wireless platform that connects all of our services for the customer both inside their home and when they are on the road."

Jim Robbins, president and CEO of Cox Communications said, "This revolutionary partnership will forever change the way Americans consume entertainment, communicate and exchange information. With more than 3 million Cox customers already choosing to bundle at least two services, and more than 1 million bundling cable TV, high-speed Internet and telephony, our company has been realizing the benefits of bundling for some time now.ÿ We look forward to further increasing our customers' satisfaction by adding new wireless services, increased integration and portability."ÿ ÿ

Robert Miron, chairman and CEO of Advance/Newhouse Communications said, "We welcome this opportunity to join our partner Time Warner Cable, as well as Comcast and Cox, in this very worthwhile initiative, which will enable us to offer our customers a wireless addition to our product line of digital cable, high speed data services and digital phone, and future cutting edge innovations to be developed by the venture."

Media Luncheon and Product Demonstration

The CEOs of Sprint Nextel, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Advance/Newhouse Communications will hold a luncheon for the media and product demonstration today at 1:00 p.m. ET in the Le Trianon room on the second floor of the Hotel Plaza Athenee, located at 37 East 64th Street in New York City.ÿ

Reporters who cannot attend may call into a teleconference to listen to the event and ask questions.ÿ U.S. reporters should call (866) 297-4539 and international reporters should call (706) 679-9046.ÿ The conference call ID number is 2067146.ÿ A replay of the call will begin at 5:00 p.m. today and will be available for 24 hours.ÿ To access the replay, please call (800) 642-1687 or (706) 645-9291 and input the conference call ID number 2067146.ÿ The conference call will also be webcast and can be accessed at http://www.videonewswire.com/event.asp?id=31227.ÿ The interactive demonstration of these capabilities and service can be found at http://64.207.132.216/.

This came up in my suggestions probably because of the video I posted. I had NO idea exactly what being color blind actually was. Now I understand why that man was so blown away with seeing the trees......a lot of color blind people see green as brown, so grass, trees, etc all look brown.

Often people who have organic vision or hearing activated as adults after never having had it cannot practically utilize it because their brains never developed the massive neural network needed to make sense of any of it.

Well, he sees in color, just differently. Can't he just enjoy that? My granny had anachromatic color blindness, meaning pretty much like a b&w tv

Comcast is the first to report, with a massive 274,000 loss in video subscribers.

In the 3Q of 2016, Comcast had 21.42 million video subscribers and was the #1 provider, now at 10.39 million and is the #3 Provider, YTTV is #2 ( who also surpassed DirecTV-8 Million and Dish-under 5 Million), Charter/Spectrum is #1.

I don't think they'll go below the current $30 price since it's part of a deal they have with the non- profit that owns the apartment building.

Yeah, I was just saying Spectrum suddenly wants to keep what customers they can.

Optimum, which bought up our previous cable company, Suddenlink (originally COX), replac ed all of their coax disdribution with Fiber several years ago. They ran new fiber links to the house, but installed RFOG (RF over glass) devices on the outside of the house, which makes the house coax system look like a cable system. They used DOCSIS modems and of course we had the same assymetric bandwidth of cable internet. When I called them a couple years ago, and said I had installed a connection to the local Fiber provideer, MetroNet, They panicked and offered me the 300 MBit "Fiber powered" cable service for $20 per month. They were bleeding customers. I cancelled my Metronet and went with the $20 deal for a year, even though I didn't like the old cable technology.

Then T-moble Fiber struck a deal with Metronet Fiber where T-mobile would take over the marketing, billing and customer relations for residential Customers. They offered a "Founders Deal" for 2 Gigabit service, symmetric speeds, for $70 per month for new customers. That included all taxes and fees and was guaranteed for 10 years. I couldn't resist. That deal is no longer offered, but I am set for 9 more years.

Now the successor to the old local telephone company, Brightspeed has also installed a modern Fiber system in the neighborhood, but won't be getting my business. But their Fiber technology is also superior to Optimums cable based system.

With Fiber competition, the cable companies are eventually doomed.

similar situation. almost every neighborhood around me has fiber, but our 3 block area. I called AT&T and was like, how hard is it to bring fiber over about 200 feet (I am closest to the folks with fiber and can see it on the poles from my front door); crickets and very frustrating.

Given that Tubi is one of the hottest FAST services out there, I don't expect it to go anywhere. Building up intolerance for ads takes a while, and as long as the advertisers are willing to foot the bill, why not?

Another reason I'm glad we are swapping or Rokus out for Apple TVs. I was already planning on ditching the Rokus earlier this year and had been waiting on Apple to announce the new one last month. Our Rokus have had issues the last year or so with freezing video and reboots, and one with an HDCP issue randomly.

I have the Roku's, 2 or 3, I just rarely use them ... I prefer the Google/Android Sony set up.

People tell me that the Apps on the TV will end thier usefulness as they age ... They are doing ok for me so far ... I also have the TV take the App Updates whenever possible ... then again, I don't know how often App updates come to it.

So, so far, I'm doing ok, but if they start to get sluggish, I'll eventually change to a Roku ... I don't want to, but eventually ... (Or buy another new TV :eeek:shh:clapping:biggrin

You know of any drawbacks using Ultra and Prime?

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

They recently split the news channels off of MySports, so CNBC, CNN, FBN, FNC and MSNOW are no longer part of it.

MySports was decreased to $64.99, and a new "MySports+MyNews Duo" pack is $79.99, which will also give you Bloomberg, CNBC World, CNNI, the C-SPANs, i24 and Newsmax.

Tennis Channel also joined MySports at some point over the past year.

Here's the Insider article. Shudder is now part of MyCinema and Fanatiz1 was added to the Spanish packages last Friday. PX Sports was also added a few weeks ago.

It's not just AMC+ driving the price increases on the genre packs, the rest of the AMC Networks (AMC, WE, IFC, Sundance, BBC America), along with Paramount/CBS, Hallmark, Weigel and others joined since they debuted last year.

The number-one US state for EV growth, according to the June 22 Yardi report?
Oklahoma.

:eek

It has no ZEV mandates and "minimal" incentives, Yardi says, but also has cheap electricity, high multi-car household rates (so, for example, a non-Lightning Ford F-150 pulls their trailers), and a consumer base willing to switch.

The Cybertruck was supposed to make the F-150 obsolete. It wasn't supposed to be boring, like a Ford or a Chevy. It was supposed to be "more truck than truck." It turns out, people just wanted trucks that were trucks, and CEO Elon Musk announced on X earlier this morning is that the Cybertruck is dying.

Ending production in middle of next year at gigatexas for cybercab production.

As it is, most consumers buy trucks as comfortable transportation rather than commercial utility. The Cybertruck approach to that goal was way out in left field. It turned out to be more of an austere sedan with awful daily-driver attributes (visibility, parking). The expectations regarding truck durability were dashed early on.
