Greetings, I have a problem with my channelmaster rooftop ota antenna losing digital signals during gusts of wind. My local PBS station is about 50 miles away but I have great digital reception most of the time except for high winds that come and go and sometimes rain causes fade. Any suggestions to counter this problem. I also read online that when the analog broadcasts stop and all local stations broadcast a digital signal the power of the digital signal will be increased for broadcasting. Is this possible or did the person who said this know what he was talking about? Any help or suggestions to remedy this would be greatly appreciated. thanks:)

****first thing to do is observe how the wind affects your install****

the problem may be as simple as this.

-do the screens flop about in the wind...secure them together with nylon ties

-does the antenna shimmy and shake on the mast when the wind blows.
shorten the mast
if you are using a rotor, install a thrust bearing to lessen the load.

-if you want to try a preamp suggest the winegard hdp-269 amp...the other higher gain amps will overload at your distance from the towers and amplify after the joiner.

-the newer generation tuners are less prone to multipath (5th generation chipset)

What is built in the ViP622?
Rick0725
just read at the avs forum that the 5th gen has problems with signal overload.

there is always something.

Sorry do not know which receivers have the new chip set.

While reconnoitering the install, thanks Rick, I got to thinking about the preamp and I thought over the signal strength and I figured a preamp would be overkill in an 80% signal situation.. It was either the antenna or the tuner...

In the surveying my install I also determined the antenna with the most wind load was the 4228 and as the wind mostly comes from the West and the 4228 is pointed West so I reversed the positon of the 3018, it's above the 4228 now, to put the 4228 just above one of the two fulcrum points which would be the top of the tripod.. With a few trips up and down the ladder I am pulling in an unflatering 80% signal from the 4228 on channel 58 and so far still pulling rock solid signals from the 3018.. This could be the answer to "my area related delima" but only time will tell....

I won't mess with anything else until the 622 is installed but so far I am happy with my OTA signals..

Thansk to all...
MaD MiKe
Well the 622 is intalled so I got a new mast, a piece of 1' galvanized water pipe and a cap for the top, and intalled the 3018 on top and the 4228 on the bottom and I "think" I solved the problem with wind changing the angle of the antennas and cauing dropouts.. Only time and weather will tell but if I have to jump up on the roof a few times to tweak I still feel I have the best I can afford at the moment..

Question to the pros: Has anyone of you taken a reject dish 500 and used it for a reflector instead of the corner array that is normally used for a Yagi ???

Just thinkin and a tinkerin... ;)

If you're going to pick features, ensure they are optional features (like interior lighting or driving lamps), as safety features aren't optional.

You are just renting your new car. Subscriptions and has to go to the dealer for months or years to get repaired. Not doomsday but am. You will never own your car again, just a long term rental thatwill sit at a dealership for a year waiting on parts. It is real folks. Plus never forget they are tracking you 24/7. I am not a conspiracy person but trust me, your car is tracking every move you make from eye movements to restporations They will use the kill switch if they think you are impaired or have high anxiety. I didn't know that was still happening on the BMW.

I hadn't heard that GM and Ford were thinking about it ... I' try to keep up on the Ford stuff, haven't heard about that yet.

As far as Tracking you, no they are not, well, not as in Lets Follow Jimbo and see where hes going ...

That said, YES, they know where the Vehicle is at all times ...
You don't hear much about Life Lock for your Vehicle any more, why is that ?
Because, the Computer on your Vehicle knows where you are ... My App, tells me exactly where my vehicle is, not sure why they try to Steal them anymore, unless they are Older and don't have such a feature.

The Car is Not tracking you .... the manufacture may know where the vehicle is, doesn't mean it knows where You are.

Do you use Waze Navigation ?
If so, every time you post on it that a crash or a cop or a slow down is happening, your Telling them where you are ...
Btw, thats Not the same as someone tracking you, your volunteering the info.

It dosent matter. It another huge merger deal. Its called Anti-trust. Thats why we have 6 media companies controlling 95% of all content.

due to the fact that coax is regulated differently than copper, one company has always had a monopoly over the coax that comes into your house. just because a combine company would be larger, it changes nothing for the end consumer. As two separate companies, if Comcast or Spectrum wanted to charge $200 for cable, because they are only provider, you'd have zero choice if you want coax delivered service. As one company, same thing

The real danger is to the content owners who haven't established DTC on their own. If they get shut down by all of cable television, they're done.

I think what Comcast and Spectrum are really worried about is that some of the big housing properties might consider doing away with their cable company contracts in favor of broadband -- let the tennants worry about what they want to watch.

DTC = Direct-To-Consumer. This is the approach that HBO, Disney, and other major streaming players have adopted as alternatives to the cable/satellite TV delivery model. Cutting out the middleman is often an attractive goal (assuming you're set up to deal directly with customers).

And once they get the masses to streaming, they control all content and control prices. So suppliers like YTTV , either jacks up prices or decide to get out of the game......This removes competition and leaves everything in a few hands.

I know what DTC is and stands for. Your condescending response doesn't actually address what content owners that are supposedly left in the cold by traditional distribution has to do with Comcast's splitting or a possible merger with Spectrum.

Any content owners that don't have a DTC pipeline, even if that pipeline is straight up youtube or instagram videos, are clearly not serious about their business model and are just along for the free lunch that is cable.

You didn't comprehend my response.

If, after enough mergers, the remaining cable company decides not to strike a deal with you, you've lost the majority of your customer base.

I see it more as a matter of fact that, from the standpoint of a cable channel (or collection of cable channels), having a single outlet (one big cable company) enables that juggernaut to exert absolute control over your future. It seems rather obvious to me, but perhaps not to others.

You lecturing anyone about harmonious posting technique is quite a reach.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Woke up today to a major Roku UI update. Looks more and more like Amazon/Fire TV. Prominent and offensive ad sidebar, difficult to locate settings to disable them, smaller app icons. Suggesting content I would never watch.

Why do they need to change it? It was perfect before.

It also continues to suggest content from the Roku TV app when I previously deleted it.

Can't wait to see what happens when Fox buys this.

Actually, if they keep f**king with it, I will throw all my Rokus in the trash and use my connected HTPC's to watch what I want.

So the latest spectrum sell off isn't a done deal yet but has anyone been discussing or hear of new 5G filter or LNBF with filter options if we are down to 4.1x-4.2GHz? Without a new LNBF, it seems like it would be the end.

I can't remember the last time I watched anything on C band. I upgraded to the Titanium red filter LNBF in late 2024 which brought back what I had lost due to 5G in my area but there isn't a great deal left to view. My 10' Unimesh dish has been out there for 38 years and has served me well and I will leave it just in case.

Since April I had to add filters for my over the air antennas as well which solved the pixelation events every few seconds. It was like they flipped a switch one day.

Probably 16 years ago I put up 3 Prodelin 1.8m dishes and had them setup for C band but more recently converted them back to Ku band for which they are intended. I almost took them down last Fall but perhaps I will continue in the future with those if Ku band becomes the future choice of satellite distribution.

This is probably why I lost my OTA channels. I've been told that I'll need to buy an inline filter that blocks anything above 609 MHz. The Channel Master CM-3201 was recommended but the specs say it doesn't start attenuating until 618 MHz. It's only $20 so I won't be too disappointed if it doesn't work well. I just hate being forced to have to upgrade (on a lot of things).

609 is RF 36, wouldn't you want to filter below that?
Corrado
The Channel Master CM-3201 is exactly what I'm using. Band pass 5- 608 MHz, blocks 609- 3000 MHz. They completely solved my interference issues from 2 different antennas.

I checked the Channel Master 5g filter you mention above a few years ago with a Televes spectrum analyzer I had access to, when I was beta testing some antennas and things for them.

It kills LTE and 5g deader than a door-nail. It slightly clips channel 36 by up to 2dB though. It's also power-passing, which comes in handy if you must power an older preamp through it that doesn't have LTE/5g filter built in.

IMO, it's the best LTE/5g filter out there, even beats the Televes filter built into their preamps.
