g10r signal- lower than normal?

Hi,

Any input would be appreciated.

I was just working to peak my first FTA setup on G10R over the weekend and having a frustrating time getting much of a peak. T5 peaks fine. The only channels I could receive at all on G10R were at 11805 (Research & UWTV) and they were spotty at best. By sunday night, with no further adjustment on the antenna, these two channels were solid. By monday night, 6/5, the two Fort Smiths at 12114 were solid as well (again with no further antenna adjustment). I seem to have the antenna peaked on the receiver signal indication for Az, El and Skew but the most signal I can get at 11805 is 20%. I am in AZ.

Reading this thread and other posts regarding G10R, I'm gathering that even in the best of times this satellite is among the weakest. Would like to get a better sig as it looks like one of the best FTA satellites around. Is G10R still operating at reduced reception on monday 6/5 or today, tuesday 6/6?

I would really like to get the set at 11720 and 11800 but I can't get any signal at all beyond an occasional momentary 10% peak. Should I expect further improvement with adjustment? I've been trying to find a higher peak for days on these two transponders but so far I am unable to find anything beyond the skew that has provided the highest peak on 11805 so far.

My setup:
Wave Frontier T90
Invacom QPH-031 at the center of the LNBF-rail
(Linear ports ONLY, already know not to use the circular ports)
PanSat

Incidently, this is my first satellite system used since I was a freshman in high school. It was 1978 and I was a faithful reader of Coop's Satellite Digest. I built the spherical antenna he published, a single-conversion receiver (avantek VCO, Mini-Circuits passive mixer), a demodulation board built with discrete transistors, and a three stage LNA with (then unheard of!) 0.7dB NF Mitsubishi GaAs FETs. It didn't work well but I could receive the strongest transponders in the clear and others with noise. Being in Alaska with a 14° elevation to a 5W satellite didn't help but it was fun as the channels weren't scrambled yet (it was even before VideoCipher I). Life moved on and I haven't done anything with this since- looks like I've missed quite a boom in the industry!

welcome :wave

G10 is reading back to what it was. on my Pansat 1500 the 2 main transponders (11720 & 11800) are reading 60+, 12104 (ABC) is pegged at 99

Thanks for the signal report. When exactly had the signals returned to normal?

I'm at a loss as to what other antenna alignment I can make at this point.
M
oh boy....week or so ago. It was low only for a little bit due to thunderstorms at the transmitter site (Little Rock, Arkansas)
C
Iceberg- The number of feeds on your wave frontier listed on your signature line is impressive. Any chance you could list the type of feed you're using at each satellite (assuming you're using more than just the standard feeds sold by WF at some points...).

How are you switching across so many feeds? Nearly everyone I've seen are using multiple receivers.

I'm hoping I can get one of these to work. That would work for an eight satellite set at least:

107.3 & 111.1 is for my StarChoice sub

I use 4 4x4 multiswitches and hook up both lines from the LNB to the switch. So 74 &79 are in one, 85 & 91 are in the 2nd, 93 & 97 in the 3rd and the 4th is actually 4 LNB's in one

101 V & 103 H are on one side
72V and 119 H are on the other

most of the audio is on 119 H polarity
the feeds on 103 are mainly H
101 V is for KUIL (Fox)
72 V is mainly the only side that has something

I've actually working on getting 87 added to the mix. But we got snow & cold so that got put on back burner :)

24 team playoff seems to be real close.

Are we really that far from a 64-team tournament?

The benefit of the 24 team playoff:
  • All the cartel teams that cartels want in playoff are in playoff
    • Independent of record too! Bonus.
  • MONEY!!!!! for the cartels.
  • I'm out of ideas.
Cons
  • Regular season really doesn't matter now other than the rivalry games
    • Top cartel teams can lose three games and still make the playoff
  • Going to start resting players?
    • The playoff is going to be *checks notes* several games!
    • Resting players could make games dumb.
    • Maybe even restrict NIL players from games played.
  • How much are streaming sub costs going up a month to pay for this?!

One of the pro's I see is in a year with so many undefeated teams they have a good chance of an opening. Few years back you had lower divisions that didnt get a shot. I love collage football and I have no problem with that addition.

We are in what week 5 now? Been two real good ranked games to watch.....Other than that top 25 teams are playing nothing.

A 12 team playoff net should catch any undefeated team. The 12 team playoff also exposed that rankings suck. I mean, we kind of knew already that the rankings weren't particularly reproducible, but we now have the empirical evidence that the rankings suck because judging who is the best among a mickey mouse scheduled football season isn't a rational endeavor. So the 12 team playoff ensures most teams that should make it, do, including the mid-major undefeated team. 8 teams should be able to work as well, but puts greater risk at OSU and Alabama missing the playoff... can't have that.

Which is the run up to my main problem with the 24 team set up is that it is designed to keep the OSU's and Alabama's from missing the playoff. The cartels are ensuring widespread participation for their own cartels to increase the monetary reward to themselves. It is fixing the system while not fixing the outcomes, merely making the regular season game outcomes virtually irrelevant. Sure, a bye for winning the conference would be nice, but we've already seen that byes aren't that influential.

That is college football in a nutshell. Again, college football isn't about competition, it is about revenue. The entire setup is about making money, from regular season squash games against local jobbers like the WWF days to tax exempt bowl games.

And to add to the first world woes, the college football cartels have made being a College Football fan even more expensive... so they can get paid more.

Take a look at this weeks teams and tell me how you determine the Top 10, let alone the Top 24.

Were going to have maybe 1 undefeated team Miami ... they played No One so far, if they get by Notre Dame they will have at least played 1 good team.

There are a bunch of ok to good teams, none that are head and shoulders above the rest, like usual, Bama, Georgia, Ohio State some years, ND some years ... none are good ...

Buckeyes would be there, but lost thier QB, they may still be good, we'll have to wait a few games and see how the Freshman Qb takes over.

UCLA is up there in the Good category this year ... whens the last time we said that.

BYU thought they were the Top team (#2) when they beat ND, but turned around and lost the next week.

People complained when they had Blow outs in the small Playoffs the last few years, what are they going to say when we have 8 or 12 Playoff games that suck ?

The playoff told us rankings are pointless. Lesser ranked teams were winning playoff games. Ranking the top 24? Rank it the same way as normal. It'll consist of at least four or five of each cartel's teams, other conference winners. The field will be fine, the sorting will be problematic and arbitrary, but in the end does it matter?

It'll matter when OSU or Alabama have to face a decent upstart squad due to being ranked midway in the listing, or goodness help us, each other. But thanks to arbitrary rankings, that should be easily avoided by design. Then the cartels will need to fix the rankings a bit so the top dogs can have a bye or three to help prevent those untimely eliminations from the playoff.

For better or worse, NIL and the transfer portal have evened the field. NCAA will be pretty much like the NFL with records being kind of meaningless and anyone can make a run and win it all.

As for meeting each other, you say they automatically avoid ... not really, if I recall, when Ohio State won in 2 years ago, they had the toughest route to win it all .... they played Tennessee, then it was the #1 team Oregon, in round 2 then Texas in round 3 then Notre Dame in the Finals .... thats hardly avoiding the tough match ups.

Personally, I don't want to see 42- 10 blowouts in the first 2 rounds ....

Not sure where you found lesser teams beating higher ranked teams ... (outside of the Top teams, which any could beat each other (1-8).

Which in my opinion is where the Playoffs should be teams 1-8 .
Team number 64 has ZERO chance to win 4-5 games against top teams.

Btw, whens the last time a (in basketball) 32-64 ranked team WON it all, or even got to the Final 2 ?????

I'll wait.

You mean other than Miami being in the final last year... and Indiana being the only bye team to win a game?

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

A few teams got a deal. Was posted yesterday in the Directv update thread
K
https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rel...-louis-blues-regional-channels-302918682.html
DIRECTV today announced a new multi-year distribution agreement with the National Hockey League for Hurricanes Hockey Network, Blue Jackets Hockey Network, Wild+, and Blue Note+ pregame, postgame, and in-game live sports services.

Each of the four channels will be available to DIRECTV streaming and satellite customers who live in each team's NHL-designated home territory and subscribe to Choice and higher packages, and each U-verse customer in those same regions who subscribes to U200 and above.

This agreement also provides distribution rights to each NHL team to all of DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS's thousands of sports bars, restaurants, fitness clubs, and other commercial venues located within each team's respective region.

DIRECTV has recently obtained regional or local rights to provide 76 of the 81 U.S.-based NHL, NBA, or MLB franchises to their local fans, including multi-year agreements for 23 U.S.-based hockey teams.

Now let's get the NBA game channels going.
K
I'm trying to figure out the math that got them to 76 of 81 US based teams:
DIRECTV has recently obtained regional or local rights to provide 76 of the 81 U.S.-based NHL, NBA, or MLB franchises to their local fans, including multi-year agreements for 23 U.S.-based hockey teams.
77 Phillies
78 76ers
79 Flyers -- Next year will mark 30 years since DTV last had local Philly sports after the demise of SportsChannel Philly, at this point the lack of NBCS Philly is not a dealbreaker for most of their remaining PA, Southern NJ and Delaware customers
80 Stars -- Not listed in the NHL release as KDFI/KDFW only has 17 simulcasts the rest are Prime only
The lack of Flyers and Stars would match the 23 of 25 US based NHL teams.

81 Ducks? -- KCOP is listed in the NHL release, but between them and KTTV only 65/77 games will be available, the other 12 will be Prime only, and there's no OTA option at all for viewers in the Santa Barbara or San Diego DMAs
Unlike the 4 NHL distributed teams (Blues, Blue Jackets, Hurricanes, Wild), the Stars and Ducks are available at no additional cost for Prime subscribers

In the NHL release they are counting the LIL coverage of OTA teams for "local rights", even if all of the outer markets aren't available (i.e. Golden Knights and Mammoth on The Spot Idaho subchannels, the Panthers on Laff Fort Myers and Ducks outside of the LA DMA), so at least for the home markets they have all of the OTA NBA teams:
Heat - WPLG/10 Miami and WTCN-CD/43 West Palm Beach -- slate up on channel 654, but I doubt they are going to add a Heat feed just for Fort Myers unless the Heat make it available cheaply, they didn't even do it for the Panthers who won the Stanley Cup in 2024 and 2025
Hornets - WAXN/64 Charlotte, WMYV/48 Greensboro, WRDC/28 Raleigh and the satellite only WZBJ/24 Roanoke -- slate up on channel 648 for the rest of the Carolinas
Magic - WRDQ/27 Orlando and WMOR/32 Tampa -- slate up on channel 656 for the non-carried subchannel markets Jacksonville, Gainesville, Panama City and Tallahassee along with the Florida portions of the Mobile-Pensacola DMA who doesn't have any OTA carriage.
Hawks - WANF/46 Atlanta -- slate up on channel 646 for the rest of Georgia and Alabama
Bucks - WVTV-D2/24 Milwaukee and the satellite only WISC-D2/14 Madison -- slate up on channel 669 for the rest of Wisconsin
Suns - KAZF/32 Phoenix -- Nothing for Tucson, Yuma or New Mexico
Jazz - KJZZ/14 Salt Lake City -- Nothing for the areas of Eastern Washington, Eastern Oregon, Idaho and Montana that used to get it on an alternate feed of Root Northwest
Pistons - WMYD/20 Detroit and WJMN/3 Marquette -- Also available outside of Detroit on 663-2
Mavs - KFAA/29 Dallas -- Also available outside of Dallas on 676-8
Blazers - KUNP/47 Portland and KSTW/11 Seattle -- Also available outside of Portland on 688-1
Pelicans (Gulf Coast Sports) - Available on 676-6
Thunder - KSBI/52 OKC and KQCW/19 Tulsa -- Also available on 675, in their case there's a special cable only feed of KSBI and KQCW that DIRECTV, Spectrum, Fubo and others have with all of the games, OTA viewers and Dish customers will be limited to 10 games. They kind of did a horrible job with the announcement though, so there will be a lot of confused OTA viewers when they turn on 52.1 tomorrow night and see Forensic Files instead of the Thunder.

He had the Twins the last 2 years and I saw the Wild screen on 668-1 when I was there a few weeks ago.

There were some technical issues during the pregame, where 668 was showing the Pacers feed instead of the Timberwolves feed until a few minutes before the game.

On the stream API it looks like some areas need the Sports Pack, what's his zip code?
