Hopefully someone 'round these parts can help me out. I read through the threads here that I thought might address my issue but came up with nothing; so here'goes.

I am having trouble viewing one specific local (Fresno, CA) OTA Digital channel; 24-1. The analog signal comes in fine (if a little snowy) and 24-2 (which is just a test pattern) comes in perfectly well, too.

What happens with 24-1 is this: I get a signal strength of around 80% (Same as for 24-2) but no video and no audio. Dish Network Technical support tried blaming both the broadcaster and my antenna. I *WAS* able to receive 24-1 briefly last night and lost it when I changed channels briefly.

I have tried deleting all DTV channels, Resetting the receiver (by both holding the power button for 10-ish seconds as well as unplugging it), Scanning for DTV signals, adding the digital channel mannually.

I have spoken with the broadcaster (KSEE 24) to verify that they are indeed broadcasting 24-1 (they are). He mentioned that there *might* be something in the PSIP signal (If I heard him right) that's causing the problem with certain receivers (i.e., my 811)

What can I *possibly* do to help narrow down where the problem is? The only troubleshooting I can think to do is try a different receiver but that isn't exactly possible for me since I'm the only person I know with a Digital receiver.

If there *is* something in the signal from KSEE 24 that caused my receiver to choke, how can I "clear out" whatever made it choke in the first place?

What *I* believe might be happening is the remapping the receiver does for 24-1 is screwed up somehow. If so, what can I do about it? (Yes, have the 266 software)

I'll bet your problem is the 811. It is one of the poorest OTA receivers around. It has trouble with some PSIP encoding as well as multipath rejection and interference from adjacent channels. The only way to prove this is to try another receiver, a stand alone one. I got the Samsung T151 and a friend of mine got the LG 3100A. Both perform significantly better than the 811. I can receive all 8 available stations in my area with the T151. The 811 locks on only 4 of them.

You may want to take advantage of Circuit City's return policy or buy a popular one on Ebay and resell it if you don't want to keep it.
B
It's certainly been hit or miss with me. It's different every day. But the new software will fix that all up, right?!??!

Love this guy's channel. Looks like Walmart has thrown in the towel when it comes to conventional car batteries.

I bought a new AGM battery from Walmart about a year ago, it is already needing replacing. I thought about just buying a regular battery but from what I've read, that might not be a smart move. Might check my Forscan program and see if I can change the battery type from AGM.

When you need a battery, you need a battery.

If you can wait, new technologies are on the not-too-distant horizon.

You're probably doing something wrong if you're only getting a year out of an AGM battery. Heat and infrequent charging both significantly reduce lifetime.
Jimbo
I've been getting at least 5 years from my AGM batteries ... but they ARE expensive.
Around $280 up here.

The original AGM battery in my truck was 7 years old when I replaced it. It was still going strong at the time but I didn't want to push my luck. In my experience batteries in today's tech heavy vehicles die suddenly without warning. Especially in extreme heat or cold conditions.

I've had the same luck ....
The 1st one was into 5th year and I replaced it, didn't show much bad, just didn't know if I should keep going with it when we were coming into Winter Weather (at the time).

I did have 1 AGM that Ford replaced as I was losing something in the vehicle, might have been the interior lights, iirc ...
That was quite awhile ago ...

Huh? How can I be doing something wrong.....I took out the original battery, that was 6 yrs old and put in a new one.....kinda hard to screw that up. I figure it was just a bad battery....it happens.

The biggest takeaway I got from this video was the Walmart batteries only had something like 85% of battery life left even though they were brand NEW. The ones from O'Reilly all tested 100% of life left.

And the Walmart ones mostly had very little warranty.

My last AGM (using now) I got from O Rielly's, its the Super Start ... I got the Platnium, they had several to choose from.

The number-one US state for EV growth, according to the June 22 Yardi report?
Oklahoma.

:eek

It has no ZEV mandates and "minimal" incentives, Yardi says, but also has cheap electricity, high multi-car household rates (so, for example, a non-Lightning Ford F-150 pulls their trailers), and a consumer base willing to switch.

GM said its next-generation vehicle architecture will provide 40 times more computing power and 30 percent less wiring than before and will expand from the 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ to its high-volume SUVs, trucks, crossovers, and fourth-generation EVs, which will be powered by lithium manganese-rich (LMR) prismatic batteries

Despite the politicization and perceived consumer pivot away from EVs in America, GM needs to remain globally competitive, so it's doubling down on its fourth generation EVs, with energy-dense, cheaper-to-manufacture LMR batteries, more efficient motors, and state-of-the-art centralized computing architecture. With a stated goal of cutting the traditional four- to five-year concept-to-production time in half, GM is clearly challenging the concept of "China speed," which in the Chinese automotive industry can be as quick as 18 months from design to start of production. In the AI space, GM is smartly collapsing all of its marque-specific apps under the familiar OnStar brand, while providing more features—both on the phone and in the car—than it ever has before.
harshness
Let's tell it like it is. GM's EV efforts are coming from SAIC. The brain trust is almost entirely in China, and GM is hanging off of SAIC's shirt tails.

It is a lot like asserting that the Corvette was designed by Chevrolet when most of it came from the Cadillac CTS-V.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....

Now right up front....this is NOT intended to devolve into a "pot is good" vs "pot is bad" thread. The whole point is to make you aware of a potential problem that a person can develop when they start smoking pot at a young age. Not that they WILL, but CAN. Kinda like getting lung cancer from smoking cigs....some do, some don't. The purpose of posting this news story is to keep anyone from paying an outrageous emergency room bill......knowledge is power.
While this may not affect you, you might run into someone who is experiencing these symptoms and can share the info. Fortunately, it looks like stopping smoking is the cure and isn't a permanent condition.

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

I set up a music server for my brother a few years ago. It's basically a small headless computer but it needs to have a DHCP IP address reserved for it in the router settings. This was easy to do in his DSL router. He's switching to Starlink now and I was wondering if these setting are easily accessible in the Starlink router. I'm pretty sure he will be getting the latest V5 router.

If you can't get into the router to reserve an IP address just don't use DHCP on the device that needs connected and assign it to a specific IP address in the network settings.

They are not. Your best bet is to set up a third-party router, attached to the Starlink for your server, that you can get into, like a Linksys, etc

The Starlink V5 Install Kit I just got comes with the Mini Router. It is pretty limited in what it can do. For example, it can provide only one IP subnet at a time, no Guest Network, but it does support the pass-thru to a third-party Router. You can also split the Wi-Fi into separate 5 GHz & 2.4 GHz SSIDs to help some IoT devices that don't support 5 GHz bands to work.

The larger Starlink Router that still comes with the V4 Kit does support a Guest Network with separate IPv4 Subnet, but it's $120 from Starlink. And it still won't do DHCP Reservations.
harshness
If you can restrict the DHCP address space to assign addresses to one end of the subnet (i.e. x.x.x.50+), you can manually assign the IP address on pretty much any operating system. This is a default behavior on several popular routers. As the Router Mini only supports 235 devices, I expect that's already done.

Another option is to use a router that supports PoE to power the antenna. This article discusses that option (under PoE Power heading):
