Will DirecTV installers install an AT9 dish on the roof in the winter? What if there is snow.

I really want to get this install soon...but winter still going to be here awhile.

Thanks,

Well, I guess I'm part of the 4% too stupid to live...

Mine is mounted to my roof along with an additional tripod that supports my OTA Antenna and a 2m ground plane. No leaks in 10 years. and that includes after a re-roof 2 years ago.

Oh yeah, can you name some of those products to use when the roof is wet..Also, can you recommend anything to use when it is actually raining..

The name of a product that can be used on ANY wet surface and ensure 100% watertight integrity?

Eternabond,

I've installed this stuff under ponded water on a low slope roof with no problems. Sticks to anything and will provide a leak free installation.

Never leave the shop without it. Available at roofing supply houses and many retail outlets.

Installation on Wet Surfaces or underwater sealing...
EternaBond works best on a clean, dry surface but there are times when a repair needs to be made to something wet, or even under water. EternaBond will not adhere to all materials when wet, especially if that surface is porous, like wood or concrete, but our success on many materials that are not porous, like rubber, metal, sealed concrete as in an in-ground pool, have been very good. We do not warranty the EternaBond in these kind of repairs, but again, our success has been so good, it may be worth the try for you

not trying to be picky here but its stuff like this that is the difference between my liability insurance staying the same or going through the roof.

after many years in the electrical trade and seeing what happens to people when some installation causes a problem i make it a point to use only things that are spec'd for the application.
talos4
I would recommend the Roof Seal Plus. It's 90 mil thick and is better for sealing on a granulated surface.

You MUST MUST MUST prime the area first before applying the stuff. Do not soak the area. It does not take much. Apply the tape and then roll it. Apply a good amount of pressure while rolling. It's actually the pressure that activates adhesive in the tape.

We use it all the time on all sorts of roofing materials. It saves alot of time especially when it's raining and we get a call for a leak over bus bars, servers and other sensitive areas.

It is a bit of overkill for the installation of dish's, but I used it on mine. A good quality roofing cement would work just fine in most cases. Roof cement is available in standard size caulk tubes so you don't have to buy a bucket.

Just don't use silicone caulk on the roof. Silicone and asphalt do not mix.

I read the same info on this product
I'll stick with my procedure..They can wait til it stops raining..I am not taking the risk of getting hammered by a roof leak claim..
If one wishes to take the chance that everything will be ok, that's fine..

All I have ever used are silicone based sealants..9 years..nary a leak..
"Silicone and asphalt do not mix"....Question:..Why would you want them to mix?

Well, I don't pretend to be an expert on installing dishes.

I'm a roofer, Silicone sealants are meant for use on non reactive non pourus surfaces, Aluminum, Vinyl, Pre-finished galvanized, tile, etc.

Silicone when used on asphalt based materials will over time lose it's adhesion and begin to separate from the surface.

In the roofing industry urethane based products ( 1 part or 2 part) are highly recommended to provide a seal. Products such as NP1 and Vulkem are what we carry on our trucks for use on the roof. The Urethane caulk bonds at a molecular level with the surface. Silicone sits on top of the surface.

If you've ever tried to peel a urethane based caulk off a surface as opposed to a slicone caulk you know what I mean.

Just my $.02 worth.

Ya had me going until you got to the "peeling "part...

Typically if I needed to remove a dish mast from an asphalt shingle roof, it was very difficult to remove the mastfoot if a silicone sealant was used..The sealant will tear the shingle because the silicone bonded to the shingle...Perhaps there are other ingredients in the caulk we use beside silicone that allow the product to bond with the shingles?...

If you live up North, there are things called dish heaters and dish covers. heaters you would purchase from the home service provider also the covers. Aside from that pay extra for a pole mount in the yard.

Season 2 order already in hand:

'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy' Renewed for Season 2, Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

Here i am over a year later and just finished season 1. Not great but not as bad as I was expecting. Did not care for the barefoot captain stuff but overall ok. Actually looking forward to see what they did for season 2.

Yeah, the foot stuff was just nasty. I kept thinking of how dirty her feet would get traipsing around shoe-less. Funny, I love being shoe less at home and never wear shoes indoors in my home for long, but seeing her laying on all her furniture with her bare feet hanging out just kind of grossed me out.

There would still be dirt ,dust in the future I am sure. So walking around the station like she did she would get stuff on her feet. I am sure the robot vacuum is still going to miss stuff, with all those different alien species running around there.

Where is it going to come from -- specifically?

Why do you think cleaning technology won't improve in the next few hundred years? HEPA filtration was invented as part of the Manhattan Project.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that. ;)

Stay out of my office. I rarely have shoes or socks on in the office. My office and business is at home though :clapping

I just thought her behavior, including the bare feet thing, was disrespectful to her position.

Stargate SG-1 cancelled, Atlantis renewed

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.

They didn't sell many, they were pricey and not out long. Quickly got replaced by the Hopper.
T
They were high-end specialty, somewhat buggy and the 612/622/722 just overwhelmed it in popularity.
HipKat
I think they were more of a transitional receiver bridging the VIPs to the Hopper. They were a PITA to install and were buggy. Personally, I thought at the time that they were the best receiver out there. The versatility of the VIP's with the new Hopper GUI and, by far, the coolest-looking front plate and lighting.

Well if it is because of reliability that wouldnt shock me.I went through 5 or 6 of them in little over 2 years. I loved the Sling when it worked! Saved lots of money having it in the day. That was probably 15 or 16 years ago?

I don't recall that they came out just before hopper, but rather that they came out even before 722. Or could be thinking of 921.

As to the title pf the post, "rare" does not necessarily mean valuable or desirable.

Sometimes a thread gets so many posts in it that is can cause issues for the server so that why today we introduce The Song Name Game Part 3!

So let the game continue!

The last song was added by Bobby who posted...

One Meat Ball - Andrews Sisters

CONTINUE ON AND HAVE FUN! WELCOME HOME TO SATELLITEGUYS.US!

Here are the original rules for the game as posted by WebbyDude back in 2006. http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/68645-Song-Name-Game

Just name a song title and the band who performed it. The next person does the same thing, but needs to list a song title or band name which includes a word from the previous entry. Pick songs from any genre.

Example:

Long Live Rock and Roll -- Rainbow

Rainbow in the Dark -- Dio

Another example:

Ride the Lightning -- Metallica

Lightning Strikes -- Ozzy Osbourne

Get it?

An additional note: we all know that song titles, sometimes, use profane words. Because this is a family friendly website it is advised that you clean up that title up a bit. This is accomplished by using something like sh!t instead of the real word. Thanks....
