Washington, D.C. (January 19, 2007) -- DIRECTV is raising its monthly High-Definition programming fee for new customers from $9.99 to $10.99, effective February 6.
According to a letter sent to subscribers, new customers activating HDTV equipment will pay a flat fee of $10.99 per month, regardless of which programming package they choose. The fee will be charged whenever a HD receiver is activated on a customer's account.
Formerly, new customers could subscribe to DIRECTV's high-def package for $9.99 a month.
DIRECTV says it will make no changes to existing one and two year programming commitment requirements. Company spokesman Robert Mercer said today that current HDTV subscribers can still pay just $9.99 a month.

For instance, DIRECTV's 'Plus HD' package will cost $69.99 a month (not including tax) and will include HDTV programming, DVR service and more than 185 standard and high-def channels. The $10.99 monthly activiation fee will be included in the Plus HD fee.
However, subscribers will be able to get Plus HD for $59.99 for the first 12 months, plus three free months of HBO and Cinemax and 12 Pay Per View coupons. (The offer will require mail-in redemption for $10 a month bill credit for 12 months. After the promotional period, subscribers will be charged the regular rate.)
The Plus HD package includes all the current DIRECTV basic high-def channels -- and the premium HD channels if you subscribe separately to them. (Note: The price of HBO will increase by $1 a month for new and current customers.)
DIRECTV said last week that it plans to offer up to 100 national high-def channels by year's end. However, it's unclear if the new pricing plan will be used when the lineup is expanded. (DIRECTV now has less than 10 national HD networks.)
The new HDTV pricing plan is part of a larger overhaul of the satcaster's pricing structure. DIRECTV is raising average programming prices by about four percent.

No big deal! D* LOWERED the HD fee by a buck a year ago to $9.99 and is now going back up a buck and adding a new HD channel 3/1. HBO going up a buck a month is still cheaper than E* is for HBO.
The question is what will the HD rate be when all the new nationals that have made agreements or are still negotiating with D* come online this fall. Many of the new HD nationals have been holding off waiting for D* to get the 2 new sats up so they can debut on D*. With the RSN's and new national HD D* is getting close to the 100 new HD channels they announced. Check AVS forum for details. In the meantime good luck to E* which is in a fierce battle to get Court TV back for its customers but have seemingly nothing else major planned for 2007.

I've not been optimistic about this show based on what I've read so far. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience. Interesting though that Tatiana Maslany will have some sort of role.

I don't know, but I still don't like her walking through the station or the academy with out her shoes. It looks unprofessional and very "hippy like" for someone of her status and I personally don't get off to feet, so there is that.

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.
Stargate Atlantis, meanwhile, has been renewed for a fourth season, with the network hoping to see that the spin-off series can stand alone, according to a source.
