monz i am not hijacking your post, but i have the similar dish that i play with and i cannot seams to get it going because my focus length, distance between lnbf and the depth of the dish that i measure is not working right, i try many different positions with my lnbf and its the same. The lnbf works, but cannot get it going with that dish you have in picture thanks

It's EASY to calculate the F/D ratio for your prime focus dish. Measure the diameter of the dish from edge to edge in centimeters. Then, put a flat board or straight on its edge 2x6 all the way across it from rim to rim. Then measure the depth in centimeters in the middle of the dish (deepest part) from the bottom edge of the 2x6.

Plug those values in this calculator, and hit Calculate: F/D Ratio - Satellite Calculators | SatLex®

For instance, lets take a 10ft dish that's 304.8 centimeters in diameter. Let's also say it's 20 inches deep which equals 50.8 centimeters. That dish would be 0.375 F/D ratio.

I'm far from being an expert like him, but I can tell you that it's an 8-foot dish I got from the roof of a motel near my place, so it was beforehand perfectly fitted.
I swapped out the LNB for one of this type.

Also, if it can help, it is located approximately 1 inch from its tip and 33 inches from the base of the antenna.

Mister Controversial here.
If the dish is still true and not sagging, etc from age. AND was made as a true parabolic from the factory.
The calculations "should" get you in the ballpark.
But. Like me and me bleedin' dish. Toss the finite calculations out the door.
A 4-poster scalar/lnb mount gives zero "wiggle room" for scalar adjustment.
You are able to slide the LNBF in and out and rotate it to get the maximum signal.
So instead of getting confused why this and that measurement doesn't add up to the calcs. Try moving the LNBF position.
Of course you'll want to make sure that the LNBF is aimed dead knutz at the center of the dish and acquire a signal.
In other words. Try to not be off aim of a sat. by a little and aim the LNBF off of the dish center to compensate.

and oh....four-five bucks for a fernco reducer. superjack main tube, 2" O.D.? extension tube, not sure but we could check.
no shipping, no waiting. probably a cut or two with a utility knife.

Yeah, my ipv6 traffic dies at my Unifi Gateway, so definitely a problem there, I need to test direct to the ONT and verify it's not actually Cox. I'm close to pulling the trigger and upgrading my infrastructure to 2.5-10g anyways and making some other significant changes, so probably done messing w/ that for now.

When I checked out and about on my phone (Fi, so likely TMobile) I was passing all the tests.

Edit: oh, fun. Now my home connection is passing all the tests. Maybe there was a lease renewal or something.

Both of your posts (Mestevo and Foxbat) came in over IPV6.

Ok this is funny...My Internet Provider GoNetspeed just called me, as I have a static IP address. That static IP address is an IPV4 address. I didn't think they supported IPV6.

Anyways they just called and said "Hey we were going through our accounts and notice you have a static IP address and we noticed that we never assigned you a IPV6 static IP address as well.... can we add it and reboot your Fiber Connection? They said they didn't want to add it and knock me offline for a few minutes. How cool is that, I love my ISP.

I was like SURE! So sometime within the next 24 hours they are going to provision my fiber connection for both a static IPV4 and IPV6.

So soon I will have IPV6 as well.... now I just need to figure out how to setup my router to support it.

Time to put the learning cap on again...

When it comes to antennas there's an old saying "HEIGHT IS MIGHT". While there are exceptions to that, normally higher is better.

Folks looks like I have destroyed my Winegard HD7000R during movement and some bolts were just way too rusted and couldn't come out. I'd rather start new - which antenna do you suggest I get?

I'm pretty close to towers in WTC and Times Square although it'll be nice to pull signals from the yellow and red categories too - should I get a strong antenna or that will cause problems due to too strong a signal - what model do you advise I get Winegard or any other

At that distance to the towers, and your VERY high signal levels, a paperclip should work. Just buy any small antenna that covers at least UHF (primary) and High Vhf. You do have a couple Low Vhf channels, (2 through 6) and the antenna elements for those are very long if you insist on those also.

I do like some low VHF Channels like WNWT-LD (Story TV and history) so guessing I'll need long antenna. Will Classic Series Yagi YA7000C be a good fit or something else? Also is my mounting location ok?

My parents needed a new TV in November of 2024 that could be seen at any angle in the room, because there couch and 2 chairs sit at angles far from each other and a fireplace in the corner locks them into that arrangement. So I hunted different TVs and tried them at their house and they all looked faded sitting at the side.

So I saw an LG OLED B-3 series 55ich TV they were selling at $749 off Amazon at the end of that year, because the new C series was coming out. Watched the Review videos on You tube and this TV worked at any angle with no fade on corners and the picture was excellent. Everything Popped and the colors were excellent and vibrant. Liked it so much from the review video that I bought one for my parents and one for us too, at the same price.

Well my Buddy also decided to buy the same TV since it was on sale and he got it hooked up to his Hopper with Sling and we looked at the DISH satellite picture and I was shocked. Every thing looked as sharp as could be with no artifacts or halos in the picture. The color was wonderful as well. Now on some older SD reruns from the 90s and 2000s showing dark rooms there was a hint of it up close, but not sitting in the room at a normal distance. He recently added the DISH Plus unit to his hopper with sling, that puts out everything in up-converted 4k, except actual 4k that plays as is. The picture looked even better and he is happy as can be.

All the arguments about who had the Best Picture between Directv and DISH came back to me from the past. Directv was sharper, but had artifacts in the picture supposedly and DISH was softer, but less artifacts in the picture. The TVs we had back then were not as good as this OLED TVs of today. Might not of mattered back then if we had these type of TVs back then. But 4k upconverted outputs using the Plus unit - does help the picture as well.

Rambling about picture quality.

Satellite channels with the Joey 4 look better on the old 65 LG oled than with the Hopper 3 on the newer Sony 77 oled.

I don't have a Hopper Plus.

Maybe the satellite picture quality with the Hopper Plus would be better than the Hopper 3 satellite box?

Trying streaming from Dish Anywhere app to see if the stream is better than sat.

Picture using Dish Anywhere on my latest Apple TV 4K box on the channel I'm watching started out alternating between fuzzy and clear.

The picture stabilized after a few minutes.

I have an old Apple TV HD connected to and big older TV.

I had to remove Dish Anywhere application and reinstall it to get it working on the old TV with the Apple TV HD.

I hooked up a Google box to a non oled 43 inch LG 4K set.

The Google box Dish Anywhere combination looks and works great.

Wonder what the picture quality will be with a wireless Joey 4 for the satellite chanels?

The Hopper3 outputs 1080i unless the content requires 1080P or 2160P (4K)
The Plus and the Joey4s upscale all content to 2160P, and also flag the content as HDR regardless of the actual color profile. How the TV will handle that depends on the HDMI setting.

So, it's possible that the difference you are seeing is related to the upscaling performance, or the possible HDR settings on your TV.
