Some more markets turned on in HD.

?One more CONUS local market added (Lima, OH)

No, can't see 77. Do you know, are there any disadvantages to moving to the Eastern Arc?
As long as you have LOS, there are no disadvantages. One of the advantages (besides the local channels in HD), is that all channels are mpeg4.

Besides being able to squeeze more channels on a transponder, is there an advantage to mpeg4 for the consumer? IE, better picture?, better sound?

From someone who switched from Western to Eastern Arc only a year ago, I can tell you that the picture on eastern arc looks "crisper". It is not artifact-free, but it is more pleasing to my eye, especially on black & white programs and those shot in low light situations. Blues are truer. Reds noise-free (not artifact-free). And an hour-long program only takes 45 to 50 minutes of time as measured by my 622 receiver.

This applies to HD channels ONLY. I did not do a detailed comparison on SD channels when I switched. The tests are completely subjective, done via HDMI input on an Hitachi 42" Plasma TV

I'm one that's in the camp of Lima, OH and have not seen the HD channels pop up yet. I'm assuming I'm still on the Western arc, how can I tell what arc I'm on? And what would the change entail to try and move to the Eastern arc?? Sorry, if these are silly questions, I'm a noob.

You are on the western arc if your dish is pointed southwest, and eastern arc if your dish is pointed south/southeast.

The fact that you only have SD locals tells me you are on western arc, as the eastern arc locals are HD only and on the 77 satellite. You would need a new dish installed and re-pointed to switch to the eastern arc.

Oh, are you freaking kidding me! I just got Dish re-installed because of a move on 10/14 and don't understand why they just didn't install this version. ARGH!

Just contacted Dish network re: this and they told me that the Lima HDs aren't yet available, is anyone actually seeing these right now?

I saw the name changes for 6312(5) -
WIYE (Mkt:Parkersburg, WV-Parkersberg, WV-CBS) - Echostar16 61.5W TP 28 Spotbeam 32 renamed to WCHS(53) (Mkt:Parkersburg, WV-Charleston, WV-ABC,) (A) (H)
6313(15) - WTAP (Mkt:Parkersburg, WV-Parkersburg, WV-NBC,) - Echostar16 61.5W TP 28 Spotbeam 32 renamed to WIYE(5) (Mkt:Parkersburg, WV-Parkersberg, WV-CBS) (A) (H)
6314(49) - WOVA (Mkt:Parkersburg, WV-Parkersburg, WV-FOX) - Echostar16 61.5W TP 28 Spotbeam 32 renamed to WTAP(15) (Mkt:Parkersburg, WV-Parkersburg, WV-NBC,) (A) (H)
6315(53) - WCHS (Mkt:Parkersburg, WV-Charleston, WV-ABC,) - Echostar16 61.5W TP 28 Spotbeam 32 renamed to WOVA(49) (Mkt:Parkersburg, WV-Parkersburg, WV-FOX) (A) (H)

Then I noticed that they are on 61.5 W so I checked
http://www.satelliteguys.us/thelist...&sub=true&beamMap=E16_SB32.jpg&sort=TP&order= and they are listed as being in HD but I check the DISH site and they are only available in SD. Are they live or not? My Hoppers would love my locals in HD. Really I'm ready for PTAT. It'll require a move from the Western Arc to the Eastern Arc.

Dish's website does not indicate that Lima's HD locals are available though. I'm guessing the locals are NOT supposed to be on yet. They're marked available but officially no one in the Lima market will see them because they will all (officially) be pointing at western arc. Also, their "system" says the channels aren't available, therefore no CSR can turn them on for customers.

The CSR does not need turn them on unless it is a new customer or customer changing to the Lima DMA. That includes not needed for someone changing arcs. If you are provisioned for the Lima locals, the HD ones will be there, assuming they are generally available.
