2013 MLB Postseason

I find it odd that MLB/TBS/TNT Turner has decided that on the opening Friday night of the MLB Playoffs, NO ONE is scheduled to play in Prime time Friday night, No game starts at 8 pm...

For some reason, the Red Sox/ TB series starts at 3:30, while most are still working.
The Tigrs and A's don't start till 9:30, which could be the 8 pm game, but I understand it starting at 9:30 seeing it's in Oakland.

The 3:07 start time for the Sox game sucks for me, good thing that Sirius has MLB now so I can listen to the 1st couple innings in my work truck. Also, the shadows are going to be nasty at the beginning of the game.

ESPN reporting that Dusty Baker has been fired....

The decision is coming from ownership, not the GM. It was done out of fear of losing money due to decline in attendance as fans were threatening to not renew their season tickets.

Frankly I think that is a stupid reason to fire someone. But that is just my opinion.

Outside of that, I see no reason to fire him. I cannot see anything he could have done as a manager that would have made a difference in his team winning more playoff games; or his team winning the 1 game WC against the runner up for the Cy Young.

That's the problem with these 1 game WC rounds. Sure it lets more teams get into the postseason and have a chance at winning the world series. It's tough when a team has a good 162 game season and then fires a coach over one game though. Under the old system Cleveland would have been the AL wild card team and got an actual series. Because the playoffs were expanded they have to play a WC round and they are out after 1 game. There is a good chance Cleveland would have lost their first round either way but it seems a little silly to have a 162 game season come down to a 1 game, do or die scenario. I liked the old WC system better.

You don't watch the Reds enough then to know. He keeps playing players that bat under .220 and don't help the team. He has always been that way and he will always be that way. It was time for him to go.

Actually, I probably watch them more than most Reds fans. I watch most NL games by the top teams almost everyday. A lot of managers do that, including Mattingly. Those .220 hitters are important down the stretch and allow those .300 hitters to rest.

Going to the playoffs 3 of 4 seasons and winning 90 games in a division in which 3 teams went to the post season, he must have been doing something right.

FYI: With the Rays-Red Sox game likely to run past 6:00pm ET, the start of the Dodgers-Braves game will be on TNT.

The Rays had 4 hits today, but outside of 2 solo homers, their only other hits were a 4th inning single and a 9th inning triple.

Mr. Lester was mighty effective.

Here's a neat stat I dug up:

All 8 playoff teams won between 92 and 97 games. So there were no glaring teams that stood out for a lack of wins ala the 2005 Padres. Nobody ran away from the field.

October 4, 2012- the Red Sox fire manager Bobby Valentine after only one season. One year later, they further purge themselves from one of the most embarrassing seasons in franchise history with an LDS game 1 rout. It was if they hit the "reset" button, and here we are!

Not when those .220 hitters are starters. Todd Frazier, Ryan Hannigan,...etc
