The formula, according to Gemini. So, 8.4 X 237 = 1990.8, add 1700 for completions = 3690.8, divided by 23 attempts = 160.46956. I guess they rounded up.

Thanks, but, uh oh... rabbit hole.

The math is ironic because it is supposed to be a passer rating, but it hinges way too heavily on pass attempts.

8.4 * yds completed per attempt + percent comp

Think about it. One completion is worth 100*comp/attempt/attempt.
9 of 11 -> 100 * 9 / 11 / 11 -> completion is worth 7.5 points per attempt
37 of 44 -> 100 * 37 / 44 / 44 -> completion is worth 2ish points per attempt

Then bonus points for TDs per pass attempt and INTs per pass attempt. Which is weighted heavily on attempts again.
TD is worth 330 / attempts.
INT costs 200 / attempts.

330 / 44 = 7 points each
330 / 11 = 28 points each
There is logic to awarding more points to a QB worth gets more TDs on fewer throws, but this is a bit silly.

So this gets us to the nonsense that:
9 of 11, 150 yards, 0 TDs... gives one a lofty 196 QB rating
37 of 44, 380 yards, 4 TDS... "only" 187.

Way more attention went into this than intended.

See ... I told you it was Stupid :biggrin2

As is most of the MLB stat garbage they use now.

ugh...looking at 105-110 temps around kickoff today. Have tailgating area setup. 3 tents 3 tables 30 chairs plus what people bring with them. generator, tv, big industrial fan and some food ordered. Wish I could get Rivian close to it and use it to power everything instead of the noisy generator. I'll probably be deaf by the afternoon. Hoping I can get there early enough in the next hour to park within a half mile of the stadium. Don't really want to have to rely on the shuttle from the fairgrounds

And the Pac3?
The Pac-12 now has nine (9) schools that participate in most sports and a few with only one or two sports.

I'm not convinced that someone who has declared at one time or another should be prohibited from participation. Should ego be disqualifying?

Pokes still sucking it up with turnovers. Truck was showing 105F when I left the stadium at kickoff. Actually wasn't too bad in the shade of the tents with the big 4ft industrial fan we set up, but was miserable out in the sun. Was drenched with sweat in just couple minutes while out taking pictures. She was surprised and said yes. Have to check the espn recordings and see if we showed up on any of the broadcasts as espn came around and filmed at our tent several times.

Boy, good thing that check from the Wolverines cleared because otherwise, Michigan was looking at a Home Opener Upset to MAC team WMU Broncos. Time ran out on Michigan, but even though the Game Clock was shown to reach 0:00 with the ball still up in the air, that would never do, and that well-compensated Officiating crew put one second back on the clock, giving Michigan one last chance at a Hail Mary.

Michigan 13, Western Michigan 12.

Theater, not sport.

Yeah, problem with college football is players being paid, not the absolute sham these cash games are. WMU plays UM because of money, no other reason. WMU gets slice of gate and UM gets slice of gate. As a reward UM also gets a walkover.

This reminds of the sham not a first down ref call in Northern Illinois v Notre Dame last year. This wasn't a bad call, it was fixed. Sure, it still requires an unlikely final play but I'm thinking short of a UM player shooting a defender, no flags to drag the ball in.

College Football should be required to call these games Cash Games, an equivalent to a non-title WWE wrestling match and the outcome is not relevant to anything but the bottom line. Maybe introduce steel chairs while we are at it... and heel announcers.

I watched Indiana beat up on North Texas. IU defense needs to improve. The amazing story was North Texas' change in personnel. They lost 18 coaches and 19 players to Oklahoma State. North Texas returned zero starters, yes I said zero. That's incredible.

College (minor league) Football system is broken. It reminds me of the UFL, the way personnel keeps moving around. At least UFL doesn't make a pretense of somehow representing the education industry.

Can we send them back? 😂
Funny.

Yeah, it's yet to be determined whether all those transfers helped or hurt either team. That's not really the point to me though. How can there be any fan loyalty, especially to the lesser teams which are not a top 15 or 20 program? You see a school develop a well performing team or player, only to see that team decimated or that star player gone the next season by the portal. North Texas was actually pretty competitive last year, only to have to completely start over this season.

I heard one game was ended in a tie because the Heat conditions at game's end were above the limit for safe game play. The Wet Bulb reading was over 92°F with a Heat Index of 108°F.
There is a "Safe Game Play" Temp ?

I have Never heard of such a thing ...

If so, what is it for Frigid temps ?

I Wonder if there are such things for the Big Boy Conferences ...

To a degree (no pun intended). They decided yesterday in the South Carolina-Kent State game to shorten the fourth quarter to 10 minutes from the usual 15 due to the extreme heat in Columbia. I think safety in all forms is just a bigger priority now than it was back in the day. High schools here in SC have mandatory water timeouts now in certain temperatures.

I don't have a dog in the fight on the Michigan game, but no one will convince me the replay call wasn't a bad call. I think the video feed of the clock on the video replay system was delayed/out of sync. Typically the TV networks either pick up the time from a camera pointed directly at the scoreboard, or from a digital link to the timing system itself. My money is on NBC's clock being correct.
