2026 Tesla Model Y vs Hyundai Ioniq 5: Too Close to Call?

I just can't bring myself to buy an EV....it would be a secondary vehicle if I ever DID buy one.
A couple of years ago we were driving back from Helen, GA and just north of the 285 in Atlanta, two idiots got into a road rage dual and one ended up flipping and killing the driver. All southbound I-85 traffic was stuck for over 3 hrs and it was a pretty hot day. I noticed after a couple hours had passed that most of the windows on any Teslas within eyesight were rolled down. I guess running the AC uses up the battery pretty fast and of course they had to make sure they had enough juice to still get home or to a charger. I remember patting the dash of our big SUV and telling my Wife "nothing like a good ol' gas burner"

This is a valid concern. When Tesla plans a route with charging stops, it typically just has you charge enough to get to the next charging stop, with a little overage. That's the most efficient and less time consuming way to charge. However, it's quite common in Texas for Interstates to shut down for hours because of fatal wrecks. You're either sitting there with nowhere to go and no way to get there, or you're taking a detour which may cost you 50+ extra miles.

For that reason, when traveling, I always charge more than what the car recommends. To be fair, I did the same with gassers, I kept the fuel level much above what was needed to get to my next planned stop. You never know what might pop up in front of you on the road.

Yep....anytime I get near Atlanta it is with a FULL tank of gas. I don't even like stopping on the outer edges of that city.
