211 Receiver question

Hopefully someone can answer this for me.

My TV is HD capable, but doesn't have an OTA HD tuner. Will the 211 work as an OTA receiver, if a user is NOT a DISH subscriber?

Just a question I'd like to have answered when trying to decide whether to lease or buy the 211.

I don't think you can, you need to subscribe to Dish Network. See this thread for an 811:

That would be an expensive OTA tuner if purchased.

Yes you have to subscribe with Dish on the 211. If you do not all you will ever see is a message screen informing you that the receiver needs to activated.

A used Voom receiver might be a better choice if all you want is the OTA tuner.
