I have a customer who has a 222 reciever. I have been out to fix this 3 times. I just reset the reciever and run check switch again. It works for a couple days then does it again.

What happens is when the customer turns on the reciever. For some reason it goes straight to searching for satellites screen. Then Freezes.

I have between 65 and 70 signal strength. So I know it is not loosing signal.

Is the receiver bad? My "Supervisor" says it is in my installation. But I think reciever is bad.

You try system diagnostic on it?. Hows the voltage out of the wall outlet? .Could be a bad ground. If you decide to change out the receiver make sure when you turn in the old receiver in that it is for sure bad ,.(2 to the chest 1 to the head)know what I mean.

I havent tried the System Diagnostics yet. But when I left on Saturday it was working fine.
Again,
It works for a couple days then does it again.
Do you mean the ground from the wall outlet?

Using a volt meter, check the voltage coming from the wall outlet. House ground could be live.ALso if their is more than 1 grounding source for the house that causes problems as well.Too much or too little voltage causes problems for these receivers.Heat can also cause issues ,amke sure its well ventillated.

Ok. I will give it a try. Ventilation is good so I will check the voltage. Thanks alot for your help I will charge my boss for all the service calls( I dont get paid by the hour hahah) if this is a reciever lol.

I would check the grounding source and ask the customer if they are up at 3 am in the morning when the down load is supposed to take place .Its rare but some customers will be up that late, early and when the download warning comes on they will by pass .To much of that causes the system to lock up.Just throwing it out there because the last thing you want to do is replace a box that is not the problem and then caucse your no problem foun % to go up.

That is a good piont. This particular customer works nights and doesnt get home from work until after Midnight. Maybe he is bypassing this and just doesnt want to tell me for some reason. I will ask.

Thanks again

Un real........I called the customer. The guy works second shift stays up til 4 or 4:30 am watching movies. His wife didnt even know this lol. He didnt want to tell me in front of her. I am going on a hunch but I think this is the problem. He is in the middle of a movie and doesnt want to be interupted........Probably Playboy channel (just kiddin). But anyway will take a new 222 with me in the morning and hope I dont need to replace it.

Is there anywhere in the menu where I can check to see that he has recieved all available updates?

Thanks I would have never thought of this.

Is he on EA? Mine was on EA and it would freeze up after a nightly update and had video problems. Tech supports says it is a known issue with EA and the 222 software. I have a 222K now and all my problems are gone.

Don`t really know.
System dianostis maybe.6,1,3, next page.scroll down. Lot of info.
Let us all know the out come.

Yes, He is on Eastern Arc. I cant do service call until tomorrow (Wednesday 2/25). But I will Look for the "Download History" and report back. So I may need to replace 222 with a 222K?

I am on the EA since February 12 and have a similar problem with my 222. It worked fine before I moved to the EA to get my locals in HD. Below is my post to a previous thread on 2-15-09:

"Does anyone have any info when the VIP 222 may get a software update (currently on 309) to correct the video stutter and freeze-up on the EA sats. My EA setup is great except for this problem. My 222k and my 622 work fine. I had a Dish Chat this morning and the tech acknowledged this was known issue and a software update was being written. No timeframe is available for release and he suggested I reset my receiver every 2 hours as an interim fix, I suggested they replace the VIP 222 with a VIP 222k and he said that was not possible. I have sent a email to CEO @ echostar.com to try to get satisfactory resolution. We'll see."

My receiver still has L309 software but as of 2-20-09, the receiver has been stable with no problems. No explanation but it is working properly now. Go figure.

Also, I have received no reply from CEO@echostar.com.

I hope yours works out mine didn't. It would also be stable for a day or two every now and then, and then go back to a piece of crap. I went thru the tech chat on the dish website and the person told me they would put in a request for a 222K because of my issue. They said they normally replace it with the same receiver. What ever they did worked because I received a 222K along with the over the air module.

Ok folks,

It appears that the problem was in the 222 reciever. I did get it to work but it froze again so I replaced it with a 222K. Problem solved.

I didn't find anywhere in the dignostics menu that told me anything concrete about which updates the reciever had.

I only hope that Dish gets this figured out. I have alot of 222's out there that were installed around the same time frame.

Thanks everyone for thier input and help. Thats why i like this site.
