322 Receiver showing wrong switch

why 38 0f 38 tests?

sounds like it's a legacy lnb or something. dishpro lnbs only has 3 of 3 switch tests! Are u using the right equipment? :)

Nope not a legacy LNB. or a broken one. In fact, a new Dish 1000.2 was installed along with a VIP622 for HiDef TV. a couple of months ago. Both the VIP622 and the DVR 625 correctly identify the LNB switch as a 1k.2, and show all three satellites. The 38 tests were run with both Sat inputs disconnected from the 322 receiver, as was suggested by several people here to clear the matrix. When check switch was run it produced 38 tests, so the test protocol is in the receiver, not the LNB's. With the Sats connected and check switch is run, it shows two tests. Also, the 301 that the 322 was to replace showed the switch correctly as a 1k.2, and work fine, and the 625 installed in the same location worked fine. Finally, the 322 had the same problem when connected to a Dish 500 with a dual Dish Pro LNB.

Then yeah...I'd say the problem either lays with your receiver or the accompanying separator.

Just to satisfy my own personal curiousity, would it be possible to swap out separators with either the 622 or 625 receivers to help verify things??

Hi Dave,

That was actually done twice. First, I swapped the Separator from the 625 and it made no difference, then when the tech came out, he saw that it had the "big" separator. He said they were not very good and installed a "small" separator. It made no difference whatsoever.

I also think that the issue was that the software in the receiver was either corrupted or so far out of date that it could not download the updates. The software was; L060 GCJD-N

The bootstrap was: 1414 GCJD.

Interestingly, the receiver was in the original packaging and it had never been opened., so it must have sat around some where.

I tried to find out about both from Dish, but they were no help at all. All they could tell me was the current versions, which are very different that the ones in this receiver. The could or would not tell me the software that is installed in a new unit. I suspect that the receiver would work Ok if there was a way to get more current software in it, other than downloading it from a Sat.

I have no idea now to "force" the receiver to download. I tried every suggestion from this board, from Dish, from the seller and also had a tech come look at it, and nothing would get it to download the current software.

In any event, I shipped the receiver back to the seller for a full credit.

Smith,

If you are talking about a cable directly from 119 on the LNB. I tired that. I hooked the receiver up to a Dish 500 with a Dish Pro Twin LNB. At first, I had 119 to Sat 1 and 110 to Sat 2. The receiver identified the switch as Dish Twin and correctly found both Sats with good signal strength. Check switch was run and the receiver failed to download the software. After sitting for over three hours with the downloading screen, I stopped it. After that, I disconnected 110, per a recommendation on this forum, and tried with only 119 connected to Sat 1, same issue, the receiver failed to download even after 4 hours. So unless, you are suggesting something different than what I tried, it did not work.

I think that's what he meant. So the receiver begins the downloading process and it just gets stuck? Hmm, sounds to me like something is wrong with the receiver not recognizing the 1000.2 lnb and not the setup. Is it possible to find a D500 and use a DP Twin or even a DP Dual and just connect 119?

I would clear the switch matrix first and then connect the receiver to 119 and run check switch.

Hi Randall,

The above test was with a Dish 500 and a Dish Pro Twin LNB. The receiver would not correctly recognize the Dish 1000.2. It called is Diseqc 41 and said it was unsupported. Which is why I tried it on another building which has the Dish 500.

Also I did the switch matrix clearing thing, which is how I got the 38 tests. With both LNBs disconnected, I ran check switch and the receiver ran through 38 tests. This was done prior to connecting 119 only.

After reading the thread, I can see you had already tried. My apologies.

Can you try connecting the cable from the LNB to SAT1 without the separator and then run check switch. I know you'll only have signal on one sat input but just trying to get the receiver to download the software update.

Hi Randall,

I did that. Direct connection from the DP Twin LNB to Sat 1 on the receiver. Nothing connected to Sat 2. No separator, no switch. That was the setup I used with the Dish 500 after I cleared the matrix. The receiver would not download after 4 hours.

You pretty much tried everything to download the software and nothing worked. Good decision in returning the receiver.

Hi hobbsholepro,

The tech did not seem to be at all concerned that the receiver was showing the wrong switch. His main concern was that it would not download the updated software. That is why I had to return the unit. Based upon his visit, as long as you are getting a picture a good signal from all of the satellites, and have all of you channels, I guess you are OK.
