Smart scan = blind scan.... i.e. it will find any tps out there that it can see, whether they are stored or not yet. For new scans, this is the best, but also the slowest since it's looking at everything... it looks for tps first in that screen that has a pic of a satellite on it and the little bouncy bars... then it goes in to what's basically the antenna screen's scan after that, looking for channels in each tp.
Antenna setup screen's scan = scan all tps that are already in memory... THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS BLIND SCAN... If you do a blind scan, i.e. Smart Scan, it'll do that screen where it's looking for tps that has a picture of a satellite logo on it, and then go in to what's basically the same as antenna setup scan after that, looking for channels in each tp that it's stored in the first step.
Advanced scan=scan one bird for a certain thing... usually you can use this for scanning for a certain pid somewhere, etc.
Also there's edit tp to manually enter tp info... and tp scan to scan one tp at a time.
One thing that I've noticed... for my pansat at least, if you are going to edit tps or smart scan, going in to antenna setup first, and then backing out, and going to edit tp or smart scan will jump you to the satellite you are on in the edit tp or smart scan screens. If you go in to edit tp or smart scan screen first, it goes to the default satellite, which may or may not be the satellite you are sitting on, looking at in the real channel you can see the picture on right then and there... so it's usually best to go in to antenna setup, then back out, then go in to blind scans or whatever since otherwise, you may not remember exactly which bird your satellite dish is looking at right then and there...
