508 aquiring signal a lot

Several times now, my wife has gone up to our bedroom to watch TV only to find the old 508 running through 1 of 5, 2 of 5, and it gets stuck and sits there forever.... only way to clear it is to unplug it and let it sit for 20 or 30 seconds and plug it back in.

Wife tried the front panel power off and power on but that doesn't clear it. Once cleared it works for days and even sometimes weeks before doing it again. Meanwhile the 622 in the living room is fine.

Is this thing on its way out? Or should I be checking other stuff? We haven't changed anything and it's been working for years (literally).

Look for a loose wire or a bad end from your 508 to the switch or lnb.

If LNB drift is outside the range the receiver can handle, it will also cycle looking for a signal.

How do signal strengths compare between 622 and 598? Is the 508 an original install and the 622 a later upgrade?

The 508 we've had for several years. The 622 is maybe a little over a year old. We got the 622 when we upgraded to HD service and bought a plasma for the living room. The RG6 cabling is from my original install (way back when E* sent you a box-o-stuff and you installed everything yourself). I think every end has been changed EXCEPT the one right at the back of the 508. LNBs were recently swapped out as a fix for LNB drift and new ends were installed outside at that time.

I should probably sit up there and go through some more diagnostic screens and see if I can see what's going on.
