508 keeps recording but light not on

Weird situation on Sunday with the 508

Was recording "Remax Home show" (program that shows what Remax real estate is selling in Duluth area...moving there soon) During the time it was recording, I went into the guide to get the Vikings game set to record on the DVR. Got that timer set for noon. When I backed out to see the program, the record light went off (it wasn't suppose to go off until 10:30, but it was 10:15 or so). So I hit record and it says "recording in progress". At 10:30, I check to see if it recorded and it did! It was all there.

Why would the record light go off, yet it still is recording?

Hmmm. Hope your drive isn't going bad. It's been 6 months since I last reset my 501 or 508. Wish I could say the same for my 811.

My 508 is still 2.22. My 501 is 2.23

My 501 never has the record light on when recording. It was a replacement receiver for one that had other problems. Noticed it right away but didn't feel it was enough to ask for another replacement right away.
I'm still waiting for the new software too.
